The rivalry coming out of nowhere is on purpose, because, yes, Alastor felt threatened by a new arrival. Lucifer outranks him in terms of both raw power, and closeness to Charlie. Whatever his plans for Charlie are, Lucifer being around is a massive complication. Given his commercial in episode 1, he already knew Charlie's relationship with her dad, and he was hoping he'd stay away. So he's trying to sabotage their reconciliation from the first second he sees the guy. The guy with Lucifer in that one photo is Frederick Von Eldritch. The Von Eldritches are essentially lovecraftian abominations that settled in Hell and made friends with the Morningstar family. Frederick is the patriarch. Also, in that picture, Lucifer is wearing the same red suit that Charlie's wearing. The rainbow hoops is a miniature of the Rings of Hell. Obviously, they explore the rest of those in Helluva, while here we're stuck in Pride like the Sinners.

15:25 yeah you nailed it but it also stems from Alastor own arrogance if you pay attention to all other songs he is involved Alastor is in confrontation after he intrudes inside the song of the original singer and tries to one up them on their insecurity or on anything Alastor himself believes he has over them For Vox it was the rivalry in strength they have with one another (Admittedly we don't know whatever Alastor is way stronger or he just views himself stronger due to Vox being a TV) And in case of Lucifer since no matter how arrogant he is he acknowledges that Lucifer is in fact stronger than him so both in the song and earlier on he tries to one up Lucifer on the one thing he has over Lucifer, his relationship with Charlie
Yep, alastor really knows he doesn’t have to do much to get a reaction and he definitely uses it to his advantage. Like seriously in ep2 he saw vox dissing him as he left the tailor and was like “okay this is going to be fun”. With Lucifer however it was more that they’re both very powerful and yes alastor likely does feel threatened by Lucifer like Johnny said but alastor, as shown too many times to count, is aware of boundaries especially in relation to the situation of the moment so that explains why he didn’t push as much as he did with vox in this episode. He recognized that if he pushed too much things were definitely not going to benefit him or not harm his plans in some way. With vox, he definitely recognizes how to handle him due to that long-standing rivalry despite alastor’s 7 year absence. Vox isn’t as big a threat as Lucifer in alastor’s eyes so he’s not too worried there. Sorry about the wall of text I just felt like a further explanation was needed.

Not saying he’s in the right or anything.” In regards to how he reacted to Alastor letting loose.
