My mom told me about how my grandpa sang her that song the night before he shipped out to Vietnam in 1968, and she sang me that song the night after my dad deployed for Desert Storm
Thank you for sharing this with me. It is a great song and my hat off to your grandfather for singing it. Great also that it is related to Desert Storm as well. US troop so much need to be appreciated and I am so glad this song has helped to do it. The trip on the ship when I first heard the song in 1966 is a sentimental memory that I will alwyas carry with me. If you would like please listen to another song I have posted on RU-vid. Type in "Vietnam Veterans Day Tribute by Mike Brookbank." Thank you.
This gives me goosebumps. Hearing this song from a vet is like hearing ‘Blood on the Risers’ from a vet. I can hear the memories in your voice. This was fantastic. Thank you for all that you did.
Wow, what a very nice compliment. The songs means alot and i do feel it when i sinit. May i invite you to listen to two other covers i put on my you tube channel about Vietnam: "Fifty Thousand Names Carved On The Wall," and "1967." Thanks again for your kind words.
Your voice made my day, sir ❤ hope one day, you can go back to VietNam as an old friend haven’t seen each other for years. Sending love from VietNam 🇻🇳
Thank you so much for your beautiful and thoughtful comment. I remember my days in Vietnam with pride although it certainly was a difficult time for me and you and your beloved country. So sad, in my opinion, that the US (i.e. our politicians) left you in the lurch. The war could have been won and it sad that so many had to die for a cause that was abandoned. Frankly, it still bothers me that your country was left to fend alone. I have a few Vietnam neighbors who escaped in the "boats" but have found a good home here in the US. God Bless!
@davidr.4916 Hi David, I'm just putting my head on the pillow and noticed your very gratifying comment. Thank you. Vietnam was a time in my life that was most sad but yet such a life changing experience of which i'm grateful.
@@mikebrookbankguitarvocals7322 You did a good job so I had to tell you. by the way...I have a song request -- "It's a Long Road" by Dan Hill. It's the song at the end of the movie First Blood.
It was a pleasure to serve in Vietnam, I only regret that the US Government let you down at the end of the war, and did not provide the support your country was promised after our last combat troops left in March of 1973. God bless Vietnam
Wow, coming from Vietman, your good wishes are most welcome. It was a difficult time back in 67 and a tough time for you people. I wish all my brothers in Vietnam the very best.
Thank you for your compliment. I remember time time in Vietnam with pride. It was tough but I met some very nice Vietnam patriots while I was there. The ending of the conflict by the US was not handled well, and I regreat that. I do wish for you and your people every blessing.
Incredible, thank you for sharing. A brilliant rendition of one of my favourite songs. This song was featured in the film “Full metal jacket” where I first heard it. Thank you and welcome home.
Thank you Nicholas, i remember song so fondly and am glad you do. If you have time check out my cover on youtube called "50 thousand names carved on the wall." Have a blessed day.
Duuuuude YOURE AMAZING!!!! I just found your channel and I already love you to death! I hope you’re having a great day and most of all THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!
Why thank you so much. What a nice compliment, but I must say nothing amazing about me. Ha! I just love to strum, pick a little, and do some great wholesome songs that I've know for years. "Hello Vietnam" holds some secial memories for me. I do another Vietman song I invite you to listen to as well. It is "50 Thousand Names Carved on the Wall." Thanks again and have a blessed day.
Thank you very much for your service in my former country. We lost the war we list our country. I left Vietnam for US, joined military at 18 years old. My son joined Marine when he was 18 too! I wish you and all our vets are healthy. Again, thank you very much for your service! God bless the USA and us all!
Wow, you and your son both in the US Military. I love your patriotism and thanks for embracing the USA as your home. The war sure had a sad ending. The US governmant let Vietnam down and that has always upset me.
Wow, I am touched knowing that you were tearing up during the song. I understand. When I think about those days and the impact of the war, I can tear up sometime as well. Thanks so much for listening.
Thank you. I love this song as well. It sure was a great memory for me. If you have a moment check out my cover of two other memorable songs Ive covered from the Vietnam war: "1967" and "50,000 Names." Merry Christmas.
Hi Michael, thank you for taking time to listen to this classic song. I have always liked it and was proud to have served. I know your proud of your dad; he deserves it.
Thank you for thanking me. That was many years ago and it was a privlege to try and help my Vietnamese brothers. I am only sorry that the US abandoned the cause. It was sad.
My husband was Vietnam Air Force Veteran, he was mad for along time afterwards. He would not talk about it, to anyone. Something’s are just to hard to talk about!😿
Hi Cutie Paw, I just listened to the song "Hello Vietman" from songwriter Mac Lovoine. Wish I understood the words, but I don't. I was in Vietnam in 1967 and untimately was very sad in 1975 when the US abandoned Vietnam. I wonder if you ever heard "50 Thounsand Names Carved On the Wall." It is on my RU-vid Channel as well. Have a great day.

Hi! That's a very good song and you sang it very well. I am Vietnamese and I found you while looking for another song with the same name, "Hello Vietnam by Pham Quynh Anh." God bless!
Why thank you, and God Bless as well. Vietnam has strong memories for me and I'm still sad that the US let the Republic of Vietnam down when our combat troops left in 1973.
Why thank you. This song is a treasure of memories as I crossed the Pacific in 1966. As tor Tom T Hall. Thanks for telling me. He has always been one of my favorites. So sad thinking about how his life ended.
@@mikebrookbankguitarvocals7322 It was sad to lose him at all, and especially sad the way it ended. But then, "it could be that the good lord likes a little picking too."
Very well done Sir! I see you're capoed up to the third fret; I sung along with you a litte and it fit my voice just right. I think I saw you holding a "C" hand position when you held the guitar up at the end. I'm a bit of an 80 year old rookie; may I ask what (hand positions) key you'e playing in. I want to try to learn it. So, if you don't mind answer back and let me know. BTW, you probably already know, but I'll mention it for others; Tom T Hall wrote that song (as only he could do), and it was recorded by Johnnie Wright. He (Johnnie) was the husband of the legendary Kitty Wells. All three of them have gone on now.
Hi Wesly, thanks for reaching out. I'm just about there with you. Will be 78 in a couple weeks. Isn't this a great hobby for our old age. Ha! I retired 4 years ago and took up the guitar again after not playing at all for over 50 years. I am just an old strummer who loves to sing. "Hello Vietnam" is done in C. The shape I use with the C chord also includes the sixth string. I beleive the professionals call it the C over G chord. The entire song is just basically 3 chords - C F and G with a few G7 and C7 chords thrown in for relish. With my current covers I try to show my hands so that I am able to share with fellow guitar players how I like to play the song. We all learn from each other. By the way, for your guitar, if you are in standard tuning the capo should be on the 2nd fret. I am on the 3rd fret because I've tuned down my guitar 1/2 step. Oh yes, I also play the barr chord version of F and G. It gives the song more base. If you send me an email at mbrookbankbec@gmail.com I will send you the lyrics and chords that I used to record the song. Thanks Wesly, it is great to find another "older gentleman" who enjoys this great hobby.
I feel happy for living Vietnam vets because they survived that war, But I also feel bad for living Vietnam veterans, because whatever they saw is stuck with them forever.
I spent the entire war on ships. Volunteered for in country twice and was turned down due to a hazardous area restriction because of my communications and crypto background.
Thanks for taking time to comment; much appreciated. It was a rewarding experience to serve in country, but the ship experience was for me just great. I particularly liked sitting on the deck at night in pitch black looking at the stars above. Beautiful!
Hello, I wanted to ask you a question, I wanted to use the song Hello Vietnam by Johnny Wright in one of my videos, however copyright did not allow me to publish it, so I looked for covers of this song and among all of them, yours seemed like the best and I was wondering If you could give me permission to use it in any of my videos
