Johnson & Johnson CEO Alex Gorsky and IBM CEO Ginni Rometty talked to Andrew Ross Sorkin at the New York Times DealBook Conference on November 6, 2019.
Really boring Conversation for me.. as boring as IBM is as a innovator........ Maybe IBM's Watson will change the image of this old seemingly outdated company 🤷♀️
Harkens back to Ayn Rand's dystopian views of "pull peddlers" making empty social promises to reinforce power structures. Not even a libertarian here, but it is scary how precise her predictions were.
I would have liked to know: - Do they think corporations need to do a better job of being positive impacts on society and reducing damage? This seems to get to the heart of whether this is just a reframing of what they are already doing. - What measures would tell us whether corporations are achieving that more positive impact. (“If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it.”) Measurement is necessary for strong accountability.
Ginni Rometti has been CEO of IBM for 8 years and IBM is actually a smaller business than it was when she took over. She's failed to transition IBM as a company in any kind of timely manner.
