Chalk talk good! But yeah, a building a forge series might be worthwhile. They're relatively easy to do but there's a fair bit of science behind them working well

I am *just now* learning. I got my anvil, forge, a couple hammers, grinder, etc. I've been working on restorations, but I am wanting to make my own now too. I'm watching all the videos I can. I am going to start trying to make a little herb chopper. Thank you for these videos!

Great to see you back Sam, glad you are on the improve and getting back to it! I first heard the term journeyman shortly before I finished my apprenticeship 40 years ago, the old timers told me then its a licence to move on and learn different techniques and methods to complete your knowledge! That still stands, every step forward and every chance to learn will improve ability and quality of your work! Its a very long story you just need to find that end to your own story!

I’d like to see a video on your vertical forge setup or how to set one up. I don’t need a new forge right now but I’m the future it would be a great reference.

Sam, Great video and glad to see you back. I love these talks. I joined the ABS and never received the ABS card you mentioned. How long does it take to get it?

It depends on where you're based, if you're having issues I would recommend emailing their secretary, you can find their contact info on the website

Nice to know the great sam towns is also just an apprentice... When did you join? Also, I have been doing most of what you suggested especially questioning master smiths about specifics... Jerry Fisk at James black school is one of the most helpful as well as a few others ... Forge design would be a nice chalk talk... Also, I've been meaning to ask you if you'd like to do a build video on Lin Rhea's x-rhea blacksmith knife? Been plotting one in my head and am close to the rt idea but would like a second opinion as it were... Thanks for the vid and stay safe down under...

Thanks mate, I've been a member 6 years, I have indeed thought of doing one! Though Lin has done a full how to on the ABS webmaster channel

@@SamTownsBladesmith lol... I did not know that... I keep meaning to use that resource more... I've seen his Instagram posts on it but I still want to see your version... I've been a member for only 15 months or so and have been focused intently on practice, practice, practice... Moving up to Damascus now...

I'd like to see a change in the testing - the 90 degree bend is a "trick" requiring a bladesmith to do things they would not do to a knife they want to sell, i.e. blue back the blade and make sure the bend point is clear. Find something meaningful to test to. I'm a hobbyist that learned heat treating as a metals processing special in the air force, I know how to make metal bend like a spring and come back to true - and no one uses a 10 inch knife to chop two 2x4's. Seriously, what a silly test. Even the 2 year or 3 year 'thing' is flawed. Really, pay a couple thousand and take a class that takes a year off the time? How about PUBLISH the knowledge on a PUBLIC forum.
