Watch out for those random barracks checks, had 4 in one week “it’s not personal it’s policy”

most decent size bases offer things to do on post, - Gym library, recreation center, autocraft shop, wood shop etc . . . If you want to stay in the barracks & drink beer, you can, but there are other things to go out & do

You pay to live in the barracks. You pay with sleep you lose over the CQ waking you up at all hours to clean up someone else mess, usually by someone who doesn’t even live there.

This type of stuff doesn't happen very much anymore, thankfully. You are mostly left alone in the barracks these days.

You are responsible for your messy roommate or if they are habitually late. During alerts you will be forced to be the first one there while married personnel get to stroll on in at 9am.

Being a single officer, its sweet to have my own place. I just got my first house since PCSing back stateside since I couldn't get a house while in Korea. The downsides though are its extra work of taking care of the house all by myself since I don't have a family who can help out, and having to sleep less to have to drive on post. I actually tried to get on post housing first but there was a long waitlist for single officer housing.

@austinshannon4197
@austinshannon4197 23 дня назад
Well it may be great or it may suck or maybe in between to be honest. When I was active duty I was single and this may surprise you but you get treated like a kid, atleast I did anyways for the most part. Let me tell you what I mean because I saw it a lot with single soldiers, especially if you looked under 30 years old. For some reason if you join the active duty U.S. Army and live in the barracks your leadership feels a need to treat you like a 13 year old when you’re atleast 18, a legal adult, by inspecting your room every other day when married folk get checked like only twice a year, tell you to shower when you obviously shower without needing to be told, getting yelled at for following orders, and get yelled at for asking a question like where’s the battalion headquarters for a meeting there because you literally just there a month ago and don’t know where everything is yet because 30 days obviously isn’t long enough to know what’s on the entire huge army base. Also I knew a 36 year old but he looked young though, he only looked 23 so people who didn’t really know him thought he looked that young so he was also treated that way, because he lived in the barracks but he actually was a 36 year old man and older then most of those leaders who treated us that way and I also I knew a guy who claimed he was only 24 but legit looked 35 so he wasn’t quite as treated like a kid despite living in the barracks because he looked older.

It's really not that great of an idea to join the military on active duty, as enlisted, at that late of an age just for reasons like that, especially if someone is single. And especially and this has been said a gazillion times already but people still don't want to get it, the army in particular because the army, for the most part, keeps unmarried enlisted in the barracks for a much much longer time compared to other branches where they let their unmarried people out the barracks in like three years max.

Life in the barracks sounds very similar to work camp life that I part of for a few years in the heavy oil industry in northern Alberta Canada. Some camps are newer than others where they had the gang-bang communal bathrooms but modern ones are self contained. Some people brought their own linen but most didn’t. I liked the food but I know others who didn’t and unfortunately there wasn’t a means to cook our own stuff so you’d have to bring up your own meals if needed.

I have a pv2 as a roommate, I’m a SPC. She’s a cook and I’m a tanker. Problem I’m having is that she hardly cleans. I have daily room inspections, I’ll clean before I go to bed, the next morning they’ll come in, and find grease or hair or whatever. Now I know I cleaned the night before. So idk what she does after I go to bed. Another problem is that we just got brand new furniture and appliances. She cooks, which is fine. Again, she doesn’t clean after herself. Our new stove is already ruined because she does not clean the dried up grease and grime from the burner. I’m about to hit my P-Status if I pass the promo board next month. Idk if she’ll move, but I’m about to request for her to move

Living in the barracks is cruel and unusual punishment. I don’t recommend anyone go in enlisted as a single person.
@golfery5119
@golfery5119 22 дня назад
Especially in the army or Marines where in most cases you can't get bah until e6 or maybe e-5 in some cases in the army. In the air force it's e4 or even e3 but hardly anybody wants to listen when you tell them that and they want to join the army anyway then go "oh shit maybe I should have listened" after they joined.

@marshalltille7770
@marshalltille7770 Месяц назад
I think that’s a ‘case by case’ basis. May need custody paperwork to back yourself up. May be even plans for child care while at work.
@christopherchaos
@christopherchaos Месяц назад
If you are going reserves or national guard you are good. Going active you will have to give full custody to the other parent as you can't join active duty as a single parent and get BAH and BAS. That can inky work if you are already in and become a single parent and establish a family care plan for who will take care of your child if you have to go to the field or deploy.

Can I live out the barrack if I'm single?
@christopherchaos
@christopherchaos Месяц назад
Are you asking if you can move out of the barracks if you are single? Yes but you will not get BAH so you will need to be able to afford to do so with your base pay. So you might need some roommates to help pay rent or wait till you rank up to E4 or E5 to be able to afford it on your own.
@golfery5119
@golfery5119 22 дня назад
@@christopherchaostell him that even though at e4 or e5 he might be able to afford to move out on his own, he won't be given bah until e6 or in some cases e5. Now in other branches other than marines, you would get bah at e4 or even e3 but nobody wants to join the other branches because they don't seem "cool" enough
