I feel like part 9 is the first time a lot of jojo fans are around for the release of a part in the manga, so many weren’t used to the slow pace of a monthly release schedule. We still have a long way to go and I have a feeling this part is going to get so hype once things start rolling.
look its not as bad as the opm wb to manga adaptation going on. Like a lot of it is cool asf, but the scheduling is horrible. Like there were somewhere between 10 to 20 delays for the past few chapters since there had to be redraws, then calendar conflicts arose, and then bam we finally get back to where we were and boom 2 month hiatus as of now. Point of what I'm trying to say is Araki is working well with his monthly releases compared to the in determinant maybe next week to oh shit a couple months from now.
I’m still holding out for a Diego descendant or even Dario working on the police force as a stand user Better still, he has no idea the police are corrupt and is a fervent believer in the law
I honestly wish I could enjoy the current JoJo-Verse as the previous one but I honestly started to get bored with Jojolion. :/ And I feel realy bad because of it. I loved Steel Ball Run a lot, though, but now I just can't connect.
To be fair to JoJolands, both SBR and JoJolion had slow starts too. I feel like a major reason Araki made the jump from Shounen to Seinen, wasn't just so he could have more "edge" in the story, but mainly so he could have a much more character and plot focused pace than an action focused one.
SBR had a slow start but it took you in literally in the first chapter and ended up as an unforgettable masterpiece that is a #2 manga of all time. Jojolands is prolly gonna end up as #800 being the dumpster fire it is
@@stairwaytoheaven8My guy it's fucking chapter _12._ Steel Ball Run by this point had barely even started the race. It didn't even have any stands displayed yet!
this goes against his royal road of writing. you can argue that the jojolands itself is already a departure from how he normally writes, but it's still seemingly following the idea of having a main character who is always rising. in araki's beliefs, he wants his main character to face conflict but to never take a step backward - the idea of jodio starting out without much aim in life makes sense as a starting point, but going beneath that or reverting to it later after developing would go against the philosophy that araki has built on for decades@@stairwaytoheaven8
As for the fatherhood theme of part 7 and the motherhood theme of part 8, part 9's theme seems to be more about brothers since, you know, the main characters are brothers and now Charmingman is also looking for his brother.
@@stairwaytoheaven8They're minor themes. The main themes are broader and the minor themes of family just serve to tie the alternate universe parts in a way. The same goes for themes of good fortune and bad fortune that D4C and WoU had and tied part 7 and 8 together, or the theme of selfishness that come from the lava rock and the holy corpse, etc
So far I think jojolands is doing pretty good. I feel like it’s going for a comedic tone, but the action we’ve gotten so far is cool. The fight with charmingman especially, Araki drew these awesome fight scenes with him and then after they beat him they’re just chilling out and asking what kind of music he likes
other jojo parts, especially the last 2, have taken like... 7 to 10 years to finish. People are judging this one too fast lol, cause there's plenty more time for the story. Plus it's not even bad so far, I like the new tone.
@@dagtheking5739 their goal was to speed through part 1 as fast as possible because of the opinion that it's boring, and they wanted the anime to be successful. remember at the time it was a new studio and jojo was popular but not like it is now.
The anime in general tends to gloss over some details and adds others(Like, they sneakily added a visual Part 6 reference to Part 1 and nobody noticed for roughly a decade) to create a more tight narrative. Sometimes it's for the better and sometimes its for the worse.
I think honestly Araki only releasing a Chapter a month is hurting the hype more than anything. Like i understand why he does it but it’s hard to compete with stuff that releases faster i i feel like
I think araki is setting things up similar to how part 8 was structured, with these bizarre mysteries being introduced which will be elaborated on as the part progresses (this time primarily focusing on the properties of the volcano rock). I love how different November rain is from the rest of the main jojos’ stands, excited to see how it’ll develop and the creative ways it’ll be used.
Certainly. First Jojo to not have a humanoid stand that can fight and is super strong, although it may be a Tusk situation where it'll evolve into one, and its ability is far less versatile that others, so I'm interested in seeing how it can used, although it likely won't become a super overpowered stand.
Up until the recent chapter, I felt as though the story was going to be a simple story about someone becomes filthy rich. However, with the introduction of Charmingman and his goal of finding out about his brother, it feels as though Charmingman could represent the mentor figure of the part and be what causes the others to potentially grow and learn as people.

3:34 I mean, part 7 kinda does it. A quote you probably know from the manga, "This "Story" is the tale of me starting to walk. Not in the physical sense... but in an adolescence to adulthood sort of way." supports that.
Honestly it’s some of the most fun I’ve had for Jojo in a while. I’m always gonna have a soft spot for it bc it’s what got me into making content, but even outside of that the cast is just really fun to watch lol

It’s two things for me: 1. I just can’t get into monthly releases of JoJo while it’s still coming out. It’s almost impossible for me to keep up the momentum with fights with so many days in between. The pacing is perfect when you read it all at once. 2. There are SO many hooks and different things going on with the mystery of the lava rock and the enemy that it’s almost disorienting trying to keep track of what the hell is going on. I actually have no doubt that this part could be as good as 7 or 8, but I’m gonna wait a fat minute to binge it again. Also this is the exact opposite of Part 7: I NEED to read in color sometimes to even recognize what the hell is supposed to be what, especially with the latest fight.
The monthly thing is fair. Even for me, I loose steam but I still keep up monthly because it feels like it gets me in the right mood in the first 3 pages of each chapter
This is my favorite start to a part tbh. I immediately like the cast and setting, the stands are really creative, and I love the vibe of a crime-thriller mixed with that offbeat Jojo's comedy. Its hard to get a grasp on where exactly things will go, but I think that's to the story's benefit.
Oh my god, Jojolion was TORTURE as a monthly read. I still haven't brought myself to go back and binge through the Wonder of U in one sitting because its release schedule utterly poisoned me against it. I'm hoping and praying Jojolands doesn't fall into the same trap that particular arc did. So far the pacing's been great, so... Fingers crossed Araki keeps cooking!
Man i finally sat down to resume reading Part 8 after they annouked the release date for part 9 and man was reading it was tough kant imagine how diffuklt it must have been reading Monthly
I feel like we aren't used to character development in a traditional sense in jjba, which is why some people have claimed stuff feels off and they don't like jodio. If araki can pull it off this could be some of his best writing yet.
Imagine at the end the meaning of being filthy rich doesnt refers to money but rather experiences or maturity or relationships. Its not like it was stated that he would be getting a shit ton of money at the end and I feel like the lava rocks maybe will value things other than money as having a higher value (like jodio preferring his relation with his brother dragona over 100 million dollars as an example) but thats just something i feel araki would do
it's a good introduction honestly, the cast is so chaotic and wacky. i feel like jojolands has the potential to be the most unique part to date, but it all comes down to how araki will connect it to the overall SBR universe and the main villain's motivations.
I think novembers rain design captures Jodios mindset right now, only cares for himself and those very close to him so his stand hovers above him, as he grows so will his stand and I think it will take on a more humanoid appearance
My biggest hope for this story is that there’s a main villain and he maybe test the cast. When I say this I mean having them fight stand users or go through events that slowly make them more mature learning about how the world works and realizing that as a stand user you gotta make sacrifices to survive. This could be one of Araki best arcs if he handles this right ngl
I'm liking these stands so far because they all very clearly are more befitting to this subterfuge / heist related action the part is going for - the first mission was just completed so we can't tell if this is like the main form of interaction or engagement in this part a.k.a. them pulling off these gigs with increasing difficulty and severity - but they all fit the form of action very well - i do like the stand-related combat but a change of pace is also appreciated, I'm not too worried about the stands powers being too specific as wer'e still so early to the part that i'd imagine the main cast stand abilities will likely improve and evolve in some way, perhaps out of need and desire in a dire situation or when they are on a mission somewhere
If i had to take only the first 12 chapters of Part 7-8-9 and compare them without knowing how the story would evolve, i would definitely say that Part 9 has the strongest opening chapters. Part 7 is still my favourite part but the story takes a while to really start, stands aren't even introduced until around chapter 15. Part 8 relies a lot on the mystery behind it all so there is a lot of "wait what the fuck is happening" throughout most of the first half (not that it's a bad thing but it can feel confusing). Part 9 so far has an amazing cast of characters and stands, we have a good mystery with the lava rock going forward but we still got plenty of action in the meantime that showed some great interactions between the members of the gang. Also i belive in Meryl Mei supremacy it's way too early to look for a main villain but if it turns out to be her i would have zero complaints
I’m loving this so far, the art and designs are top tier and the writing hasn’t disappointed yet, I’m very intrigued, and I love that no one in the main cast has a “traditional” stand, it’s gonna make things 10x more interesting, I can’t wait to see the growth of these characters and I hope araki is trying to give us an amazing story from start to finish unlike how part 8 got kinda weird in the second half
I would like to point out that also part 7 is a coming of age story (in the first volume narrator Jonny says it himself.) even tho with a compleatly different feel than part 9. Part nine is sooo much fun, and i think it has the potential to be the best part if it just keeps this level without dropping.
One thing i noticed is jodios name which is just jo infront with him being a part of a villlainous group really reminds me of giorno with the angst of jolyne
When you talked about how SBR has themes of fatherhood and Jojolion has themes of motherhood, I think Jojolands will have strong themes of childhood but also themes of siblinghood. We are already seeing 2 instances of siblings being a big part of characters, that being the relationship between Jodio and Dragona as well as Charmingmans backstory and drive being about his brother.
Yeah being caught up and reading jojo month to month does lead to lots of frustration. I knew what to expect going in, but actually feeling the wait between each chapter is an adjustment that takes time and understanding to overcome. I've definitely been loving it though the more I've gotten used to it and taken the time to go back and re-read some of the chapters together like I would when I was catching up through sbr and jojolion.
@@shrektheogre2853 not as many people were reading jojo back then. Many new jojo fans are catching up now and having to get used to this. Many people back then who started reading it were both already aware how reading manga monthly is and didn’t need to make any adjustments to having a long wait between chapters.
I feel like we are getting pretty close to a big part defining hook that we can start theorizing about. At the moment it feels like we are still in a bit of an intro stage, where it can go is still very open ended and there isn't much to really latch onto for discussion. The lava rock is great but I feel like the other shoe hasn't dropped quite yet when it comes to how it will drive the narrative, so I'm excited to see what we get this year.
Anyone calling it mid is an impatiented idiot. This part feels much better than part 8 due to the fact that we already have an etablished cast with a goal. We are only 12 chapters in and so much interesting stuff happened already. I really look forward to what Araki has planned and do hope we're gonna see some appearances of Part 8 characters 👍
I got high hopes for JoJolands. It's understandable that the hype died down given that Araki usually starts at a slow pace and even slower with monthly releases, I feel like once one of the characters obtained or stated to have a really broken ability or a really good chapter or fight pops up, that's when the hype will most likely to come
my favorite part of jojos is characters using their stands in out-of-the-box ways, so i have high hopes for jodio's seemingly limited november rain. We already got a glimpse of Jodio learning to use his stand during the fight with the cats when he realized he could change the angle of the rain bullets by swinging on the rope
So Part 7 "was like" Part 1, 2 and 3 all together. Part 8 "like" Part 4, now i guess Part 9 " like" part 5 with Giorno. Koichi was in the beginning of Part 5. Now it is Rohan. Maybe an alternative Diavolo, or his daughter. I am looking forward to see the next, and one more thing. Jodio....jo D I O.
JoJolion was my favorite part and I appreciate the slower approach to the storytelling Araki’s been doing, we’re too early in to make any bold statements either way though
enjoying the slower pacing so far actually. parts 7 and 8 both take their time to really get going and i was expecting this to be the same going in. and i love the party and want to see them get better as people (or worse, we'll see where things go xD). reading monthly has been a nice experience so far as sometimes i check the wiki to see when the next chapter is out and see that it's less than a week away and i have something brand new to enjoy reading when it comes out
Cast honestly just isnt likeable or interesting tbh. Part of JoJo's strength was the legacy of the Joestar bloodline evolving through the part. Part 1 and 7 succeed in telling a unique story because its where everything starts. Parts 2-6 and 8 carried on from Part 1, but Part 9 feels so isolated aside from a very very distant blood connection. I honestly dont care about Jodio or anyone else here because I have no reason to so far. His very existence, contrary to other protagonists, carries nowhere near as much weight as other Joestars.
What are people talking about?? It just started to get good 🤣🤣🤣. It has the same slow start as Steelball run (which took 30ish chapter get real good imo, and this less than that)...but nobody complained back then. Jojolands barely got 13-14 chapters , give it a fair chamce i say!
I do like the more limited stands. Brandon Sanderson has lectures on writing and one is about magic systems. He says that it's not the magic itself which is interesting, but rather how limits to a magic system will allow for your characters to get more creative in the way they use it.
I think it's good, always happy with a new chapter. Feel like not a lot of people were keeping up with jojolion either at least in my circles, so doesn't feel like much changed
Monthly schedule is too long for the beginning of a seinen like this. No humanoid stands so far by the way is interesting. Maybe we'll have the second main villain post-stand era to have a nonhumanoid stand
I just re-read it and I gotta say I liked it a lot more when I didn’t have to wait a month between chapters. The battle against the cats didn’t feel nearly as long & drawn out as it did originally.
I honestly am enjoying part 9 more than part 8 tbh. Mainly because Araki is creating something more akin to old JoJo in its presentation and the fights and it's very refreshing considering Part 8 to me had a very slow start and it feels like Part 9 is moving at a good pace in my opinion. I also love the character dynamics they are showing off in this part as it's very reminiscent of Part 5 and Passione as they remind me of all that good character writing.
So far it probably has one of the most captivating starts and casts of any of the parts for me. I love all of the main characters and their stands and I'd go as far to say it has the potential to become my favourite part if it keeps this quality up (Current favourite is JoJolion).
I like sbr but I think after part 9 araki should return to the original timeline i miss the og characters and would love to see more of them and a dio comeback would be pretty cool i would love to see jolyen and giorno again and also josuke
@@RandolphBethel-ub7by I love the og timeline, but it's very much at its end in terms of writing. The whole reason of part 7 is so Araki had a clean slate and could do certain things he wouldn't have been able to do in the og series. The ogverse has 6 whole parts and spinoffs, whereas the new verse has 2 parts and ongoing 3rd part
Honestly man, having more of something is nice until it harms the original. A dio comeback after being the cause of 5/6 parts is just.... no longer interesting?? If you want a dio comeback then go play Eyes Of Heaven. I mean even then the new "protagonist" of the next part of the og series would likely be around the time where most of the og characters are around Part 4 Joseph levels of useful. It would be essentially a clean slate which is what part 7 does way better. Plus the part 6 ending is supposed to close the entire series, the joestar curse was lifted in that ending. It would be a disservice to make a new part
Its like a video game delay would you rather have a rushed manga that has some weird paneling issues and maybe some bad story choices or wait and read some of Araki's best
My biggest gripe is that Araki is trying to make his characters looks too “high fashion” a bunch of the characters in this part are in my opinion just straight up ugly looking
I'm still not quite sold on this part, and I think its mainly because I don't really like the main cast yet, I still think they have room to develop and get better though. I have faith in Araki as an author but so far I'm just kind of passively reading waiting for it to grab me.
I understand the complaints about it releasing monthly but I think it’s better this way than weekly, would you rather a mid issue coming out weekly or a really good issue monthly, I honestly don’t mind waiting monthly, like xforts said let our boy Araki cook.
The characters and the setting are very good. The cast is cool, their stands interesting etc... HOWEVER the big flaw for the moment would be the fights. Like, we didn't get much difficulty nor struggle to deal with any "ennemy" thus far. We have yet to see our protags in a true fight with those sparks of ingeniosity you could see in parts like Vento Aureo or the first fight of Jojolion.
I think the biggest issue with Jojolands is that all of its characters are highly unlikable (IMHO) and it charges headfirst into love-it-or-hate subjects so frequently, it is almost statistically certain to turn off the reader at some point or another.
i got hooked up from the get go. I really love everything about the 9th part instead of (as mentioned in the video) fighting type stands. Stands from part 8 were so lame sometimes i wondered if they can get any worse than that. I mean half of them were auto stands, and i don't really like that concept in part 8 but it's better done in part 9 so far. Hope it will become my favourite part.
The part that has been left out up until now, is that I haven’t seen any connection to any other parts yet. Rohan is a reference, but he’s not a reference to book 7 or book 8. Maybe his name was mentioned in book 7 or eight, I’m not sure, but at least none of the main story points from seven or eight are involved in nine I think the big wow moment is going to occur when we realize how this fits in to the whole holy corpse, rock people narrative. The rock itself does sort of remind me of the sacred arrows. it’s like when in part four, they find a sacred arrow and slowly figure out what it is, what it does, and that it comes from a somewhat alien source, just like the rock people of do in a way
It’s funny hearing people saying The Jojolands is slow paced after reading Jojolion monthly, lol. I’m very excited about the way things are headed with Part 9, and the main cast bounce off each other so naturally.
I've been enjoying Part 9 so far! I also agree that Jodio's stand might evolve in some way. November Rain is a huge and beautiful song (having listen to it after the 1st chapter) and we've barely seen the influence the song has on both the stand or Jodio's character.
The newest chapter so far is one of my favorites just for the scene of Jodio being told to interrogating charming man and he ends asking about his music tastes
