I'm starting to regain faith in the average moviegoer cause literally every review I've seen of Folie a Poop has pointed out how in poor taste the Implied SA scene was. Like, after it happened, I pulled out my phone (the movie was THAT boring, cause I neverrrr pull out my phone in the theater) to jot down "why on earth did that happen??" and then as the film kept going, I realized "they're not seriously using THAT as the primary reason for Arthur to abandon the Joker persona....THEY ARE???????"

Pretty funny how all that critique you made about the first movie was proved in the second one.

I've watched about 25 reviews of this film and yours is the only one that I've felt like this man is taking the thoughts right out of my head. Cheers great analysis. There are much deeper dimensions and issues with the film which you touched on, and I found no one else has thus far. I kept watching them over and over, feeling like I was crazy until I watched yours. Thank you and good night.

It is not valid. What Todd did was use the character of Joker, from Batman, like a flesh suit as a means to attack, insult, and humiliate the fans of not only the Joker in general but of anyone who might relate and sympathize with Arther. That grape scene was an act of humiliation not only for the character but for anyone who related to him. It was meant to take any power or hope away from anyone who thought the character might get some level of justice or even just control for/over what was done to him. Honestly, I have never thought of someone using the empathy of the audience as a means to try and harm and hurt them on such a deep and personal level before that the only words I have for it is, "Utterly sick, evil, and depraved." Like thinking about it, it takes a serious level of narcissistic psychopathy to even THINK about doing something like that. And I mean that in the most serious way possible that sounds like some literal cult leader type of thoughts. To use empathy, sympathy, and care as a way or a vessel to actually cause real harm and pain to the person watching a piece of media...... Is.... Horrible and disgusting on the level that I think makes Todd Philips VASTLY more evil in reality than the Auther character was in the movies. And it seems Todd wanted to make a movie where the protagonist has utterly no agency or power, whatsoever, throughout the entire movie. Except at the end of the 1st one. But it seems even that was too much so in this movie, Auther has NO CONTROL whatsoever. He could not change ANY of the outcomes in the movie! So effectively we are just watching 2 hours of a guy get tortured and abused while his mind fantasizes about other things. That is until he is finally murdered in a hall while in the custody of those who graped him earlier. I hate how well I see who Todd is as a person because he is an utterly disgusting sight to see on any level. -15/10

I will say this maybe this is something someone will agree with me on “I’ve become so tired of the representation of The Joker that is like this dark supposed to be representation of how society is messed up Jack Nicholsons maniacal just pure insane character is 100% more compelling than any other iteration and to be fair Nicholson had the same motivation as burn everything down but it’s funnier like when he’s dancing in the museum knocking stuff over it’s funny Nicholson captured that pure insane and just having fun and like being a CLOWN Joker 2019 sucks another movies where I’m like what are people seeing here go watch Taxi Driver, King Of Comedy you’ve seen the best parts of Joker 2019 King of comedy handles a character with delusions of grandeur so much better any decent adaptation of Joker isn’t a pathetic loser “WAH WAH something is wrong with me my pills please WAH WAH” that’s not if you have followed any of the history of the character that’s not who he is at the core he’s THE CLOWN PRINCE OF CRIME he’s just a maniac who’s having fun with his crimes there is no rhyme or reason and Nicholson captured that so well like when he hijacks the TVs and does the commercial it’s so what the character is supposed to be the mark Hamill joker same thing that pure comedic take on the character he’s having fun you can tell Nicholson and Hamill are having so much fun playing joker now every actor who gets cast as joker has to go bigger than Nicholson, bigger than ledger, bigger than Leto, bigger than phoenix, bigger than Keogan, at this point joker is starting to resemble his comic version less and less and less

The Joker is a character who is supposed to represent the absurdity of modern-day life and society and put a mirror up to us and ask, "Who is really the crazy person here?" Like you spend your entire life working for magic green paper made by people who create wars for nothing all while having no say in your own life. Who is to say who is going "Crazy," or what even is crazy? In this world does any of this stuff around us really make sense to you?! He is meant to shake up your foundational beliefs and worry that maybe he might not actually be as "crazy," as we think. The Joker is a nihilistic absurdist, who pretty much thinks "If there is no objective good or bad why not live and do whatever I want? If the only punishment I can get is getting caught for doing what I want I just no to avoid getting caught!" And the point of that character is not to agree with him but to wrestle with the ideas he brings up and to potentially challenge his ideas within your own mind to come to better answers or to address and see that same kind of darkness in yourself. But Todd Philips is a blundering sophomoric narcissist so every one of those concepts and ideas is light years away from his ability to comprehend, let alone build a movie off of so we get trash Fight Club rip-off with characters wearing the skin suits of people from Batman universe. Like words can not describe how much I hate Todd Philips and these pos movies but I am really trying hard anyways.

@@hippykiller2775 agree with everything you said I just miss the funny whacky murderous clown joker who loves looney tunes, has three stooges henchmen, Bud and Lou hyenas, who copyrights fish he can still be a nihilistic mass murderer but have some fun also like at the end of No Mans Land joker has killed Sarah Essen (Gordon’s second wife) gordon is gonna shoot joker dead but decided to shoot joker in the knee and joker says “ow my knee I may never be able to walk again…oh I get like your crippled daughter HAHAHA good one jimmy”also from the Sarah Essen death joker says “The Best Christmas Gift I ever gave or received” or One time joker is shown photos of Barbara bleeding on the floor from Killing Joke and says “That Poor White Carpet Ruined” or from laughing fish TAS episode joker hitting Batman with a wrench and saying “Meanwhile Back At The Wrench, Since my side splitters don’t tickle you how bout a skull splitter”

@@michaelsgambati9764 That brings me to my biggest issue with these 2 new "Joker" films... They aren't funny, like at all. Like how do you write a movie about the Joker that isn't even a little bit funny!? Like at least in the Dark Night the Joker KNEW new thar "normal people," Weren't laughing with him but it still didn't stop him from having fun and LAUGHING HIMSELF! Also saying, "I like this job I really do!" is a little bit funny. So even the darkest Joker character was still some what funny. These new ones are just comically depressing, sad, and dumb. Like he says in the 1st movie, "I used to think my life was a tragedy... but now I knows a comedy." NOT FROM WJAT WE JUST ALL WATCH IT ISN'T!? Like it is literally supposedly a story from HIS perspective that is just made up. AND HE CAN'T EVEN MAKE HIMSELF FUNNY OR NOT LOOK LIKE A LOSER IN HIS OWN MIND!? I again, can not put into words how much I've hatred these movies for their unending vapid stupidity, but trust me I've spent over 60 hours thinking about how utterly trash they were and why. Like I'm personally insulted something this stupid and worthless exists in our universe.... I'm literally saying the universe is a worst place because these movies exist.

@@hippykiller2775 understood your speaking the truth joker is so pathetic in these films and so textbook serial killer (negative environment-Gotham city, mommy issues- penny, bullied, the only thing they missed was the torturing small animals bit) i can imagine todd Phillips sitting getting high and thinking “oh my god hey Scott let’s write a scene where Arthur finds a wounded bat on the street, takes it home and starts cutting it up and dissecting it, this way all the Batman fans will go look it’s symbolic since he’s gonna torture Batman later in life theoretically” At least in 89 he’s a nasty guy who’s always been nasty and didn’t go insane he just had this thing happen to him that allowed him to open his nastiness to a creative level In The Dark Knight he’s like Michael Myers evil on two legs no idea where he came from who he is all bats and Gordon can do is clean up his devastation

Also these "joker" films it got me thinking and a good analogy I came up with is this (Disney announces there making a captain jack sparrow movie but get a director who decides it should be set in contemporary times, and using American Psycho or Bad Lieutenant as an inspiration) what do those two films have that would relate to jack sparrow but the bigger issue is what does taxi driver say about joker (a man fed up with crime and scum in gritty 1970s new york and cleans it up with a gun THATS PUNISHER not Joker)

I keep on seeing people post videos saying this movie is terrible, I don't think any of the three that I've watched so far have gotten to the S A element. I initially had been avoiding watching them because I thought I'd like to watch the movie and maybe get a laugh out of it. One of my friends encouraged me to not treat it that way; she said it wasn't worth it. I'm glad I watched this video, I kind of think this is the only content I need relevant to joker 2.

Im glad i aint the only one that felt THAT scene was incredibly disingenous, random and done in extremely poor taste. Nothing built up to that sequence and came outta nowhere! The pacing and structure of the film did not justify any of this and to resort to this to illicit fake sympathy was extremely infuriating and this ruined the movie completely. I didnt mind the deconstruction of the character thought it added a new dimension to the film from a objective lens but the gimmicks, troupes and tricks are way more apparent when looked at from a objective lens and completely takes me out of the picture.

I didn't really like this movie either (the grape scene actually made me feel uneasy for the rest of the movie and for the rest of my day), but dude, don't insult people who might have a different opinion to you. Art is subjective, and people react to it differently. You didn't like it, so be it. But don't crap people who see artistic meaning in the film. It's incredibly disrespectful.
