1, Harleen Quinzel didnt have the strong accent. The accent was emphasized when she adopted the persona of Harley Quinn. 2, Even if this Harley doesn't have a strong accent, its important to note that this story is set in an Elseworlds universe. Therefore, you can't expect Joker or Harley Quinn to be exactly like their official versions. Both Arthur/Joker and Harley in this universe are entirely different characters than the ones we have come to know in the typic DC universes. So with respect, i think we need to accept that this Harley Quinn will be quite different than what we've become used to. If fans cant accept that, then you're bound to be very disappointed.

To be honest I am not liking these and the Spider-Man rogues gallery solo films. Part of what makes them for me is their counterpart hero. Plus I am just bitter they wont make a Clayface vs Batman movie but they keep using Joker, Riddler, Catwoman, Penquin, Scarecrow or Bane over and over again.

I was worried when I heard A MUSICAL. Then when I saw this trailer, It made sense. A musical inside the brain of this tormented person, like the shot of the umbrellas, you see them Black and in Arthurs mind as he sees the sky, they are colourful. Or the dance on the rooftop, its actually a dance scene of two crazy persons outside a MENTAL HOSPITAL ON FIRE!. So this make total sense, I cant wait to see how they play with it and the unreliable narrator. I AM HYPED.

I feel like knowing Arthur’s character to be a dreamer with an unstable mindset will have him and Harley be either two ideas, either Harley would influence Arthur to be confident while Harley is influence by Arthur’s mindset but Harley is the one to manipulate or even abuse Arthur to express his real self sorta like how in Batman animated series Harley and Joker had an abusive relationship but swapped or their relationship won’t be abusive like many other iterations and rather they build up each other making a very cute and unique couple

I understand that many of the musical numbers in this movie are going to be from within the characters’s imaginations (either individually or jointly). This was the way they were staged in the film version of the musical CHICAGO, with Reneé Zellweger and her character Roxie Hart.

-The first movie wasn’t as accurate as the Joker lore, but at the same time, it is, because Joker himself always says that if he were to have a past, he prefers it to be multiple choice. The first movie took elements from “The Killing Joke,” with Joker once being a failed comedian and going on a downward spiral (the difference being that his pregnant wife dies in that story.) With that said, it can be possible that there could be a mention of Harley once being a doctor, because, like Joker, she can always work that aspect of her life into her fantasies. -Here’s the thing about fiction and the debate whether life imitate art or art imitate life, Stephen King once said in an interview with Charlie Rose in 1993 that “fiction is a lie. But good fiction is the truth inside a lie.”

(10-7-2019) I'm not surprised Joker is doing well at the box office or that Joaquin Phoenix is getting Oscar buzz. He is a talented actor. But if anyone insists it's because he gave an accurate performance of a mentally ill man spiraling into self-destruction and mass murder, kindly shut the f#%k up. The fact the director/writer doesn't even give Arthur Fleck's "condition" a name is already incredibly telling. It's the lazy writer's way of saying, "Let's have this guy do some crazy shit and when people ask why he's doing it, just say it's mental illness. Because all mental illnesses are the same." Edit to another response:) It's not that I necessarily disagree with any of that. It's the juxtaposition of those things with the character being a mass murderer that really rubs me the wrong way. The Arthur Fleck story combined with the story of the Joker is the issue I have. That combination of mental illness with mass murder, that combination of the real world with the comic book world. Joaquin Phoenix is a great actor, but it's the story around him I take issue with. I've seen this story before and handled better with We Need to Talk About Kevin and Falling Down.

sorry, but, i'm not into Joker 2019 nor sequel(s?) because of... #1. a more accurate joker movie would've been better if it lived up to the quote from The Killing Joke: "If i'm going to have a past, i'd prefer it to be multiple choice", that means The Joker doesn't have a consistent backstory nor The Joker is a (un)reliable narrator. a more faithful joker movie would be a character driven movie mixed with elements of Rashomon (pov's from different characters) and Clue the movie (a movie with different endings). #2. joaquin phoenix (44-45yo actor) meets a kid bruce wayne (10-11yo kid actor)? ok, i call bs on that. i can believe the age ranges of certain actors (michael keaton 37-38yo, jack nicholson 51-52yo), (christian bale 33-34yo, heath ledger 27-28yo), (ben affleck 43-44yo, jared leto 44-45yo), (robert pattinson 35-36yo, barry keoghan 29-30yo). it would've been better if 2019 joker was played by a teenage actor rather than a 40yo actor. #3. phoenix is good and the film looks nice (visuals and production design, i mean), but the 2019 film doesn't clearly understand how and why Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy, the scorsese films the 2019 film took inspiration from, worked. the 2019 joker movie is about as violent and deeply pretentious as the 2013 purge movie.

Homie on the right had a whole trailer of great shots and costumes and set designs and narrative setup to talk about, and his main takeaway was an accent. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Who cares. Not every version of the character needs to present the same. People nitpick this sorta crap like the comics themselves don’t constantly present new visions for the characters. I for one am psyched for this. Big fan of media that plays with the notion of an unreliable narrator and seeing things through their eyes.

(10-2-2019) I was watching BoJack Horseman (ep name: Head in the Clouds) when this scene basically summed up my entire problem with the premise of the upcoming Joker Movie. The scene is basically about an egotistical male writer basking in the pretentiousness and ostentatiousness of a dark, edgy drama he co-wrote with a woman who's incredibly disturbed at how much the audience LIKES the anti-hero/villain protagonist while the actor playing the character basically justifies his own misbehavior because of the sympathetic treatment of the character. For a bit of backstory, when Raphael Bob-Waksberg wrote this season of Bojack, he did so in response to a friend of Will Arnett's telling him Harvey Weinstein - a powerful Hollywood producer and a serial rapist - was a huge fan of the show. "When I heard that story, the idea that Harvey Weinstein watched my show really gave me chills, and I thought, what is he getting out of it? Does he watch it and go, 'Yeah, that's right. That's the way to be. Us Hollywood guys, we're trouble. What are you going to do with us?'" Waksberg even talks about an op-ed Anna Gunn wrote recounting her experiences on Breaking Bad with fans of the show who loved the main character played by Bryan Cranston that manipulates and kills people but hated her character for being "a bitch" who wouldn't let him do whatever he wanted. The director of Joker, Todd Phillips, has gushed on and on about how much his film was influenced by the likes of Martin Scorsese films such as Taxi Driver, about a lonely anti-hero/villain protagonist who spirals into violence. Scorsese has hardly been immune to criticism of glorifying monstrous characters either, from Goodfellas to The Wolf of Wall Street. Thing is, while I believe Scorsese's given a lot of thought as to why he depicts horrible people as they are without coddling the audience via happy endings or karmic justice, I don't believe Phillips has the same amount of self-awareness or self-reflection as Scorsese. The man brags about how edgy and "controversial" his film is, but then bitches about people finding it controversial. He claims it's good the film is creating "a discourse" about current events in the world, but then bitches about how "the far left" doesn't understand his art. He's an edgelord with a budget who wants to be taken seriously as a filmmaker because he made some "dark, edgy" movie sympathizing with a character who is a mass murderer but doesn't want to bear any responsibility for the impact his film may have in the real world. And yes, these stories DO have real-world effects. That isn't to say a violent movie MAKES a moviegoer grab a gun and shoot someone, but it would be equally disingenuous to pretend stories have no impact on the real world whatsoever. To say our media has no influence on us is to say propaganda doesn't work, to say advertising doesn't work, to say we're sitting our kids down in front of Sesame Street for no reason. Media. Impacts. Us. Because. Stories. Impact. Us. Virtually everyone has a favorite movie they say impacted them positively on an emotional level. Why is it somehow not also true movies can have the opposite impact on a negative level? We can't have our cake and eat it, too. "I don’t want to be a Tipper Gore about it, but I do feel like we have a responsibility in this industry and as creators of pop culture to really think about the messages and stories we’re putting out there, and I don’t believe most people take that responsibility seriously enough. I’m not for censorship, but I am for being accountable and really being considerate of what the stories are doing and the effects that they have. We actually got in an argument in the [writers'] room because I said, 'I think showing something on screen inherently glamorizes it, and if you're not actively fighting against it, consciously or not, you are glamorizing that.' [...] Nick Adams, who wrote episode 4, where we talked about this issue, didn't agree with that. He said, 'I don’t think that's right, and I think people are smart enough to distance themselves from entertainment and I think it's overstated how much pop culture affects people.' What we landed on is that maybe 'glamorizes' isn't the right word, but 'normalizes' [is] ― that by portraying something [on TV], it inherently normalizes it. I don't know if everyone is thinking about that when they are writing shows with violence, shows with suicide, shows with sexual assault, or shows just with bad dudes. Cops that break the rules but get results. I don't think that is a thing that should be normalized in our society. I think that's dangerous."

(8-30-2019) So... I have absolutely no interest in seeing the upcoming "Joker" movie. White mass murderer depicted sympathetically? Gee. Haven't seen - *cough* Dexter, Hannibal, Bates Motel *cough* - that before. For me, the entire appeal of the Joker is we don't KNOW why he is the way he is. In The Killing Joke, we get flashbacks of a pregnant wife who dies only for the Joker himself to say, "If I'm going to have a past, I'd prefer it be multiple choice." As in, he himself doesn't know his origins. And every iteration of the character has run with that interpretation since. In The Dark Knight, he gives contradicting stories about getting his scars from either an abusive father or administering the cuts to himself. In a comic (The Batman Adventures: Mad Love) where Harley Quinn tells Batman the Joker told her a sad story about his past, Batman responds, "He has a million of them, Harley." There are theories Heath Ledger's Joker may be a war veteran with PTSD. But we don't know. That's why I don't think this movie is going to be good. To give a character who's supposed to be an embodiment of the Problem of Evil when confronted with a character like Batman who has a strict no-killing code a sympathetic backstory defeats the entire purpose of that character. We're not supposed to ask, "What twisted him up to make him this way?" We're supposed to ask, "What is Batman (and by extension, us) supposed to do with him? Kill him? Cure him? Detain him? Join him?" The Joker, on his own, without Batman, serves no functional or thematic purpose, and to make him the protagonist, with a sympathetic origin story, serves no purpose in today's society other than to give edgelords one more outlet for their fantasies and more cultural background noise to the ethos that there are "very fine people on many sides."

I have to say the more you change a character from their original self the less they are that character. There is growth that characters go through but with Harley they seem to want to change too much about her to where I dont like the character anymore.
