Instead of developing characters, heroes, and villains, that would eventually find popularity over time they changed the codes and conventions of established characters, and added their changes to an already established backstory. I think when it comes to racebending or genderbending, especially popular beloved character or an adaptation of another visual medium such as graphic novel or manga, people will still prefer actors that look like the character. It can be different race but it has to look similar (yes, its possible). One Piece live action doing well despite most of the main cast are played by mostly unknown actor because many of them look like their book counterpart. I saw a lot of people having video or blog talking about the fan casting of their favourite book, many of them choose actors that look close to the character. Also, there are quiet a lot of fans here in my home country who keep asking "Why is Ariel black?" when Little Mermaid live action was released. So i think it does matter because racebending (with exception) can change the character looks drastically. Star Power is not always enough. Add that to the fact that most racebending and genderbending nowadays only go one way.
Disagree with Denzel Washington put into movies with him race swapping characters. He might be a great actor, but it destroys the original IP. Same idea with people wanting Edris Alba being James Bond.
Guys, this movie is really stealing the thunder for being so bad that it's concealing one of the better movies of the year, The Wild Robot, highly recommend it.
