Yes and no. Because deep down, Arthur was meant to be Joker, that's what the character, it's explained at the end. After killing the 3 guys, he keeps on pretending it's not funny because everyone else thinks that. But in reality, he finds it hilarious, so deep down he is Joker, always has been
The Joker was still likely the product of his childhood trauma. I still think he was made, rather than born as such. The hatred was born from love, really
As I have been a fan of him for 22 years I have felt sad for how society treated him. He is too delicate and very legendary to me. A small poem for him Rose's are red Violets are blue My heart yearns to laugh As you always do
@@pandarouge21 wrong. people with mental illness are always fighting that battle deep down on some level that doesnt mean thats who they are, he did everything he could to fight it off.
this movie is so sad and touching because the topics presented in this are actually real If we take a look at our own society. Nothing is more frightening than reality
*He lost his mother, a father who never had, friendships, medicines, was ridiculed by the person he most admired on national television, he was beaten as a child and in the end it was a joke and nobody important to Gotham. This is the Joker.*
@@eduardodelabarra6357 I agree, It was so sad and still he kept being kind to people even though they were all so mean. I still want to hug him and say "hey I care about you do not worry any more". ☹💕
@@gabrielabenitez8220 You won't believe me, but I feel that Joker has been very influential in the Chilean revolution. Anyway, I appreciate that this masterpiece has awakened citizens. 💚🧡
This film does a lot to explain why bullying is never big or clever. It also of course opens up the idea that mental illness is never anything but pathos. Lovely bit of acting Joachim.
This is one of the most amazing and important movies of modern times. It addresses so much on so many levels. It is a master class. It should be part of the schools curriculum.
I once mentioned to a friend that while extremely graphic, I thoroughly enjoyed this film and appreciated its mental health narrative. That, and, Phoenix was absolutely phenomenal. Said friend scrunched her face and responded, “So what? Just because he got bullied, it’s ok for him to go around killing people?” 🤦♀️ Sadly, she’s one of many who missed the point of the story entirely. People have a tendency to place 100% of blame on the individual. They view the world in black and white and all actions are the products of conscious choices, choices of which people have complete control. They’ll often say, “Look, many people who grew up poor and abused end up successful! So it’s a choice.” Until they can begin to understand “BUT FOR”, they will never be able to change their perspective. BUT FOR the environmental circumstances/trauma, the “violent criminals” would not have gone down such paths. Arthur was already mentally ill. He was raised by a psychotic mother, horrifically abused by the outside world, and then society turns its back on him. People have started shooting for much less. The story is not an excuse for homicide. It’s an explanation for those who have enough empathy and intelligence to understand the significance of environmental impact on a person’s outcome.
Some people really choose to be bad.. But i understand what you are saying. Mentally ill people are so discarded of society and often threated like trash. This movie is amazing and so much people cant understand the fully meaning of it. Things like schizophrenia are real and more complex than most people would even care to try to understand
i totally agree with you as you look at the other side if the coin and you perfectly understand how our environment influences us especially the traumatic experiences. yes, we all have choices to live in a positive way. but not all of us are given the ability to withstand it and endure the pain and sometimes it would tilt the small piece sanity that were left.
I have a whole new respect for this song since I listened to it in the end credits of the Joker last night. I thought it was a beautiful song the play in the end.

Isn't it rich? Are we a pair? Me here, at last, on the ground You in mid-air Send in the clowns Isn't it bliss? Don't you approve? One who keeps tearing around One who can't move Where are the clowns? Send in the clowns Just when I'd stopped opening doors Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours Making my entrance again with my usual flair Sure of my lines No one is there Don't you love farce? My fault, I fear I thought that you'd want what I want Sorry, my dear But where are the clowns? There ought to be clowns Quick, send in the clowns What a surprise! Who could foresee? I'd come to feel…
For some reason this video made me realise the Joker's outfit in the finale actually is made up of clothes he wears at different times throughout the movie. Great detail considering he probably didn't have the money to buy all the stuff after he found out he'll be on the show.
This is the last movie I went to see with my dad. We didn't get to finish it because they had a power outage, but I think he would have really liked it.
What a sad, but utterly brilliant film. The slow journey to madness graphically displayed by Joaquin. Might be one of the best films I've ever seen since One flew over the cuckoos nest. xx
Was so moved by this movie, Phoenix was superb portraying what a lot of society live with on a daily basis..And Sinatra was a perfect choice to end on..❤❤
He would have tried But some people are too far gone Beyond saving That's part of the tragedy of their screwed up relationship Joker will never be saved and Batman will never stop trying to save him
Batman was the only one who understood Joker. Read the killing Joke. He wants to help him but the Joker rejects his offer because he thinks he himself is too far gone to be a good man again.
Late to the party watched it yesterday. Excellent movie. It's like a cross between Taxi Driver and King of Comedy but it definitely has got it's own qualities. Joaquin Phoenix is incredible.
What an amazing acting job by Joaquin Phoenix.... truly truly epic and now my top movie 🎥... I always knew he was a great actor but this script put him over the top of the rest... well done
Just watched Joker last night... simply can't stop thinking about it. The acting, the music, riveting theater... ill definitely be revising this one for a few years.
When there comes a movie about mental health, media freaks out speaking of some riots that didnt happen. I have suffered alot of shit in my life. Been though 6 family's, i have never seen my dad, and my mom who wishes me to die, i have had mental problems my whole life and i havent gotten any help with them, i have no friends and i have been Bullied ever since school started. Like joker said "i thought my life was a tragedy but now i realize it's a comedy" im thinking my life was some screwed up prank
Life can be a rough ride sometimes and sometimes it seems it lasts for ever, but we all have the ability to escape our darkest memories! I know this to be true.✌✊
Fantastic and emblematic film. I loved the great tribute to the greatest of all movie clowns: Charlie Chaplin. Arthur Fleck's story got even more incredible. Joaquin Phoenix outdid himself as the Joker and everything was perfect. A masterpiece that I never tire of watching many times. 🇧🇷 - From Brazil, February-2021.
If I would have met Arthur and somehow knew how his life is, I would have advised him to just leave everything behind and switch towns - maybe go to a rural area with less people, where it's impossible to ignore an additional individual. Help them, be kind and they will eventually accept you. If toxic people from your past try to get into contact, just tell them to go f*** themselves.
I don’t know what it is but this is in my top 3 favourite movies ever. I’ve watched this so many times it’s crazy. Easily the top 2 comic books movie ever. Still can’t decide if it’s the best or the second best comic book movie (Dark Knight is my first)

Sent in the clowns! Not thugs or terrorists. Clowns are friends of children. Joker was trying to be a children’s friend, but he wasn’t allowed to do so.
The real monsters are the ones that are made from the constant cruelty of others. A silent majority is rising, unknown and unseen until The Day arrives. "Isn't it rich..."
This is a great video paired with a beautiful song from the Legendary Frank Sinatra. My grandfather used to sing Frank Sinatra songs all the time when we karaoked 💜❤️💙🧡💛🤍🖤🤎💚 Everyone called him Pop Pop Frank 😊
good, you did not insert the weird laugh in the middle of the song. like if you want at least make it with fading effect or smt. thank you, will be looping this for a while now.
