So i wasn't really interested in this movie...Maybe i was wrong! Wow, this trailer was really good!

I'm actually happy it's got nothing to do with the dcmu. Not everything has to be connected together.

I wasnt too interested either, but Joaquin will always be my favorite actor so I was gonna see it regardless. His laugh makes me say "holy shit" and I'm excited to see how it ends up

I’m pretty sure the guy on the tv is Thomas Wayne and the kid at the gate is Bruce Wayne. It’s on IMDb but I don’t know if it’s confirmed...

1. Looks like it takes place in the '70s. 2. He's taking his mother a bath?! Wow. 3. Nailed that laugh... plus his outfit and make-up is something I've never seen. 4. Clearly, his first nemesis is Thomas Wayne. 5. Is he working at Arkham Mental Hospital or visiting the patients? 6. It seems we're being introduced to a "Psychopath"

As far as what I know, Joaquin Phoenix stated this would be a one time thing. So if he does well in his portrayal (and I believe he will), it would be tragic.

They really just took the Joker's final monologue in The Killing Joke, and said "Let's make a movie about that".

I've heard it described as a "Hard R". They're going down a seriously dark rabbit hole. And with Thomas Wayne...I'm guessing the kid he makes "smile" is Bruce.

Think of it as more of a character study of your favourite villian. It's got major Taxi Driver vibes and is apparently going to be a hard R. In universe it would get a lot of creative limitations and i doubt Scorsese would've signed on as EP. Tbh you could completely remove prior knowledge of this character and batman, and simply look at it as the fall of a man outcasted by society. I'm really looking forward to this, probably my most anticipated film of the year.

Its pretty much an elseworlds story. Kind of like Gotham. They are going to change things. So yeah I'm hyped for this.

Gotham made the Joker. They got the villain they deserve.

Honestly if this movie is successful maybe DC should consider just dropping their Cinematic Universe entirely and just make Solo Standalone Movies based on some of their other characters each in there own different universes (example: Harley Quinn, Deadshot,etc.) using the same amount of quality of this...if the quality of this is good

Elseworld formula is cool not only because of something new, but also we can get more MOVIES with distinctive vision, not episodes of the perpetual theatrical franchise.

At first, I was a little skeptical, but as more came out, I became more interested. But it was this trailer that sold me!

He is not really The Joker Joker. He is the one who might kill Thomas Wayne.

Part of the contract for this film was that he ain’t doing anymore films regardless of how good this one is

This is an interpretation of the fact that anyone can become the joker.....it doesn’t take one bad day but it takes moments and experiences and the cards dealt in a person’s life.....This is a joker not born out of Gotham’s madness, but born out of the madness we see in real life and real people and that’s what I like about this and that joker might just be much more terrifying and insane.

I wasn't interested either when I first heard of this movie but after seeing this trailer I'm creeped out and I have to watch this.

Plus what would this mean for the DC Cinematic Movies if this one movie turns out to be more successful? October is the perfect month for a film like this! This will (hopefully) be a creepy, old school, and tragic character study.

They’re screwed if everyone falls in love with this joker (which I have a feeling they will) and the Jared Leto joker is the one they’re using for the DCEU

This is definitely not gonna be your classic comic book origin movie. It's completely grounded in reality, even more realistic than The Dark Knight.

I like how they are putting in the Killing Joke aspect.

What if this is the Joker’s father..hence different design, Thomas Wayne, etc. and they’ll tie him into the DCEU if it’s successful, or if they ever make a flashpoint, or have flash rewrite the universe he’ll be the main joker?

Its taken us back to the Dark knight days and I love it !

Here's my theorized timeline of the movie Story starts with 20 yr old Arthur, tending to his mother -bath scene -dance scene Stable income does not come while he does his improv routine as clown -Writing jokes -mirror scene becomes sign spinner for music store -sign scene with getting mugged -takes subway, gets attacked MAYBE kills the upper class people attacking him which leads into -scene running away from cops (Possibly caught?) Mother gets in bad condition, -arkham hospital Finally loses his mind -dyes hair -sports joker look -goes on talk show Rally's up people who are fed up with the upper class' treatment of them -courthouse(?) Scene -other subway scene where he takes off mask -kills politician / causes disturbance? Idk there's alot that isn't shown in the trailer which is probably for the best

Not being excited for something because it’s not in the connected universe is a bit dumb. Since it’s not in the connected universe that gives directors a lot more freedom. For example maybe, for the sake of this storyline alone, Joker kills Thomas and Martha Wayne which would jumpstart the long feud between Bruce and Joker. Literally anything can happen in an elseworld story like this. I definitely want more of these.

Sad, dark, and tragic is the background of most comic book characters tbh so that doesn't make it seem less like a comic book movie to me, comic books aren't all fun and happy, not even close so... But it definitely seems to be the darkest comic book movie to date tho and it looks amazing

I love the music. It’s demented, yet tangibly liberated.

DC has proven they can't keep a story going without rebooting every few years. This is the movie DC needs.

Regardless of the actual quality of the film, this trailer blows away anything Marvel's ever done in trailers. There are Marvel movie trailer compilations here on RU-vid. I forgot how incredibly cringey and bad their trailers were. And every now and again, you get a great one like the first Guardians and the Winter Soldier one, and the first full Age of Ultron one. They've been extremely lackadaisical with their Endgame trailers, which are boring at BEST. Maybe they figure to save on marketing cost because they know everyone's going to see it anyway, but that doesn't excuse the mediocre trailers in my mind. Joker is everything a trailer ought to be!

When Arthur goes to a comedy club and laughs at a comedian. The comedy club is called Pogo's. Now the serial killer of boys, John Wayne Gacy, used clown makeup and his clown is called "Pogo".

The boy that the Joker forces a smile on his face is Bruce Wayne.

If you've ever seen the early stuff from I think the very first Joker Cesar Romero he sometimes wore a red suit just like Phoenix does in this film so I think they're taking us back to how he became the Joker with some backstory and before he changed his look to the iconic purple 3 piece suit! Can't wait to see this and glad your opinion got flipped just from watching the trailer.

Dude just give into the dark side and fall in love with this movie. Embrace it. I can tell you want to. It's okay. You're in a safe place and amongst friends....kinda!

It's definitely worth watching at the very least.

I think I'm gonna cry for The Joker in this film. I feel bad that he's bullied. He seems fragile, mentally anyway. He is just trying to get along in world, he's different...he wants to make people laugh. They beat him down for it. He snaps...who wouldn't?

I understand someone wanting the universe tie ins. And it may be sad if this ends up being a great movie and it is just a one off. But going at it with the perspective of it just being...A good movie. I think many can say that they enjoy a good story. Look at it like that. If its a good story and engaging...the hell with the universe lol. Just love seeing different actors takes on the Joker. However, if the movie gets enough praise...Pheonix may sign on to do another. I just feel like he wants no part of being tied down into several movies so he can keep his options open. But I don't think he has any issue signing on for 1 movie deals AT A TIME. Smart, imo.

It might no be in the shared universe but after this there could be an opportunity to reprise the role in the cinematic universe later down the line

If that part when he's behind the curtain is from Dark Knight Returns, that scene is going to be brutal!

They’ve set this up to be a stand-alone with how young Bruce is. Unless, of course, a future Bruce is significantly younger than the Batman we got in Begins when he starts.

This feels more like a DC Joker filmed like Friday the 13th, Chucky, Nightmare on Elm street or the Saw films. It's a more realistic take on this character I think, imagine if this director made his own universe like Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, except telling the individual stories of the villains.
