Jokulsarlon Road Trip | ALONE at the glacier lagoon!

Iceland with a View

When the border was closed in the first months of COVID we took a road trip to Jökulsárlón and Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon and there were ZERO other people there! No locals, no tourists, no one. We were alone at the glacier lagoon for THREE hours walking around, sitting by the shore, watching the seals, and taking in the stillness and quiet. It was the most magical day I've ever experienced while living in Iceland. ⁣It was incredibly emotional and special and something we will never witness again.

I had the privilege and blessing to travel to Iceland by myself for 28 days from the end of September to mid of Oct in 2020. I had the same experience as you had. Traveling the Golden circle, and all the rest of Iceland, plus the west fjords. I would be the only one most of the time at all the attractions. It was magical. I know the chances of it happening again would be slim to none. It really was one of those once in a lifetime trips.

Damn Gary, you must've had a fortune to spend. I'm going the 8th of May till the 18th and spend about 5k. That's a lot for me, but worth it

I saw the mighty ice cubes of Jökulsárlón last week when I was in Iceland, except everything was foggy. The fog added a nice air of mysterious ambience to the area, though. I even spotted a few seals playin' around.

Was this recorded last year? You said the end of April and it's still March. I was just there it was beautiful, diamond beach had many glaciers on the sand.

I saw you last week at the Bæjarins beztu hot dog stand. You were in line in front of me with a couple of people. I wanted to thank you for the info I learned before my trip but I didn’t want to bother you. I will thank you now! I look forward to coming back for a Summer trip so I can go up north! And yes I saw the Northern Lights!

We spent 5 days in Island on our cruise in 2019, it was wonderful! This was the one area we did not see, I want to go back to see the hold south shore.

The south coast of Iceland is a bit forbidding. From Hofn (not really a cruise ship port) to Thorlakshofn (a genuine cruising ship port), the only stop is the Westman Islands, a magnificent place to visit if you are interested in volcanoes. The Glacier Lagoon has to be accessed by road. Period.

Hi, great videos and loads of useful info, we are coming to Iceland tomorrow and can’t wait. Are there any restrictions flying a drone at the lagoon or on the beach?
@IcelandwithaView
@IcelandwithaView Год назад
Hi there! You'll need to ask whichever lagoon you're going to about their drone policy. Beaches... I'd say to use common sense and consideration for others around you. Official rules can be found here, with the Icelandic Transport Authority: www.icetra.is/aviation/drones/

I was there in May 2015 and it was flooded with Icebergs on the beach. So I guess one can never predict nature.

I am hoping to do this tour when I come to Iceland in May but I have seen the distance from Reykjavik. Is it really doable in one day? In the UK we wouldn't drive that far and back in one day. I have a few problems since the birth of my son in needing the loo more. I am worried I will be on the coach for hours on end. Do you have any advice?
@lyramidsummer5508

I visited Iceland the first week of September, 2021. It was the first time we ever rented a car out of the U.S. If you can, do yourself a favor and rent one. Driving in Iceland was a pleasure. You can pick up a rental at Blue Car Rental, walking distance from KEF.

Thank you Craig. Would love to but I haven't passed my driving test in the UK. Took 4 and then couldn't afford to carry on.

I visited at the beginning of November 2021 and we came to the lagoon twice. The first time, not much on the beach but the next day it was littered with thousands of "diamonds", all shapes and sizes. Truly amazing!
