Alex definitely let more of himself come through near the end but I wouldnt be surprised if thsts because he basically formed martin off all the 'bad' traits he had when he was younger so naturally Martin would gradually become more like Alex

One of my very favorite underrated early Martin moments where we realize his sweet boi work face is maybe not the only face is when he yells OI DICKHEAD at Michael and tries to throw hands and Tim has to hold him back. I doubt Martin has started many fights in his life but we know he's a big guy who grew up broke without a lot of friends, and I have this mental image of him as a broke and perpetually stressed teenager getting picked on by other lads in his council flats and probably learning how to end a brawl very quickly once he's pushed. I felt justified when Jonny and Alex said something like that in one of the discussion episodes, I think it was a Q&A and the Q was who would win in a fight, Alex or Martin. Their consensus was, Alex would start out vicious and Martin would protect himself and be confused and upset about it but not hit back, and then the point where Martin got frustrated with defending himself and not knowing why he was being hit, he'd just wreck Alex's shit IMMEDIATELY, lol.
