Todmobile with it´s rockestra SinfoniaNord www.sinfonianord.is/ and the choir Hljómeyki performed the masterpiece Awaken written by Howe/Anderson "Awaken" with Jon Anderson in Iceland 2013.
The line "Like the time I ran away Turned around and you were standing close to me" I think of my Mom that passed away last June as I was a rebellious kid and took off a lot..I see her standing beside me ..makes me cry.
This is just triumphant and glorious... All hail Jon Anderson and Yes. This choir and band do a fantastic job.. 13:40 to 14:40 is surely the greatest cadence in rock history... Absolute genius
I have seen YES live 23-times. I named my first born son Christopher Gabriel after Chris Squire and Peter Gabriel. Awaken is one of my 2 or 3 top YES songs. I LOVE YES. Jon sounds awesome! This was beyond amazing, THANK YOU!!!!!
Sorry to break it to you, but this song is garbage, uninspired, formulaic garbage. This is one cliché after another, Yes repeating itself shamelessly, basically Jon alone promoting it as a _great sing_ not even his own vocals are great. Of course it'd be a superb song if the authors were some previously unknown band, or a pop band. But unfortunately this is basically _they best they could do do without Bruford,_ and it shows. People who actually think this is a great song have little to none understanding of musical structure, orchestration or even basic musical theory. Either that or they don't know the entire corpus of Yes'.
@@KauanRMKlein Sorry to break it to you, but you don't need a musical degree to appreciate music. I guess that's why jazz is appreciated almost exclusively by persons who studied music theory, whereas almost everyone else thinks it is musical jerking off (which is not the case for classical music). I mean musicians fawn all over Coltrane's "Giant Steps", but to be honest, it doesn't tell me anything. It might have all the right chords, progressions, combinations and whatnot, but it simply lacks soul.
I have seen Yes, with Jon perform this song on many occasions - this version is quite incredible. Jon's delivery is quite perfection - this must have been a Magical Concert to have attended!!!
WOW.......................WOW. This is my favourite Yes song of all time and I didn't think anyone other than Anderson, White, Wakeman, Howe and Squire (RIP) could do it justice, but this is a truly amazing version. Utterly, utterly brilliant.
Just unbelievable. What a beautiful piece of music and so PERFECTLY done by Tod and the orchestra. Amazed at how Jon Anderson can still sound so fresh after so long. THANK YOU for this.
Having listened to this over and over again this has to be the best thing on RU-vid. It's always been an incredible song but this orchestrated version is simply breathtaking from johns still incredible voice, to the backing singers and all the musicians it should be compulsory that every child sees this so they can understand what true music is all about instead of the utter dross in today's charts ..... thank you John and Todmobile
Jon, Tod musicians; First off, Thank You for your gifts and sharing them with us. Jon, it took a few years for your masterwork to be written. It has taken a few more years for the master performance to convey it's full message. It has come full circle, and as we all know; a circle never ends. May the spirit that lifts this song, for all ears to hear, never end.
Absolutely amazing version !!!! The guitar player is the certified true copy of Steve Howe !!! His playing is very close of Steve's playing... And Jon........angel's voice !! ;-))
Blimey! What a wonderful performance... How remarkable that Jon, though he was betrayed and abandoned by his life-long partners in Yes (whilst he lay in hospital at death's door, no less), has nevertheless been able to both maintain his personal and artistic integrity, and regain his health and his voice; all of which reaffirms the indisputable fact that Jon always has been, and forever will remain, the guiding soul, spirit, and one-and-only true visionary of the concept and music of Yes.
Ir i could I'd vive INE million thumbs up. This could be the best symphonic progressive masterpiece ever. Angelical voice of Jon. Thank you so muchos forma this.
I feel so fortunate to have lived at the time as Yes and especially Jon Anderson. Those who were with Bach, Mozart...it must have been a similar feeling.
TheTod10 - I can't stop watching/listening to this.... I am on 41 times and counting... it is the most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard. Cheers to you!
This truly shows what an immense talent Jon Anderson is. His contribution to popular music is undeniable and will be remembered long after we are gone. This performance is flawless and magical in every way and it makes me so happy to see him perform with such command and positive emotion.
wow...wow...wow.....what can I say. INCREDIBLE! This version really matches the original version, not only in music, sound and performance, but also in the spirit of the song. Music to stay in heaven. Congratulations Todmobile
Very beautiful. The one that got away from the Symphonic Tour of 2001. And choir to boot. The choral element often overlooked as a classic part of some of the best vintage symphonic rock pieces.
Cant stop watching this, such a stellar interpretation of an ethereal song! Comparisons to the original are pointless really, all the performers are visibly moved by the involvement in the experience especially Jon! The gift of music!
I don't think Jon Anderson has ever sounded better than on this recording, so keep going Jon! Please bring this entire Todmobile and friends team over to the UK! Perhaps you can share a lineup with Steve Hackett and blow us all away, Genesis and Yes fans alike. Jon, these guys and gals did justice to your musical works.
In my opinion, Yes is the best band ever. Awaken is the best song of Yes and this is the best version of Awaken you've ever heard. So I just heard the best music that I hear in my life. Thank you for this, wonderful
Thank you Tod, for ceating such a wonderful forum for Jon's unique talent. Your arrangement is stunning and superb. You nailed the guitar with not just the notes, but incredible emotion.I love your orchestra. Thanks too to all of the wonderful performers. This brings the Magic that Jon always shares with everyone back to our beautiful world. Best ever!
That was unbelievable. Thank you all for the herculean effort that must have required. It gives me great joy to know I have fellows in Iceland who share a passion for this music. More please!
The same for me in distant Buenos Aires, Argentina. But now at the beach magical forest Mar de las Pampas listening this incredible finest beloved Yes performance! Thanks, really thanks, thanks for sharing! Best regards Iceland Todmobile & Jon!
This is absolutely fabulous. The orchestra, the choir and of course Anderson's voice are stunning! I can't wait for "Supper's Ready" earlier this year with Steve Hackett Update: After viewing this wonderful piece several times, I must say: The musical Oscar for a supporting act goes to the nameless blonde violinist. She looks fantastic and serious!
What an incredible and magical way to start my day!!!! Today is the first time I listened to this amazing performance all the way through, I think from this moment on nothing can go wrong, at least with my attitude and fir the duration of this day. Not to be rude, but the guitar player in this video is playing this much better than Steve Howe currently does, maybe Steve should give him a listen.
Dos Das You aren't being rude; you've merely stated an uncomfortable truth: "the guitar player in this video is indeed playing this tune far "better than Steve Howe currently does"!
These Todmobile recordings have been a revelation as I have replayed them over the last year. As a lifetime Yes and Genesis fan I have enjoyed myriad versions of songs and lots of live band lineups, but I have to say that your Awaken is amongst the very best. Obviously having Jon there is the making of the session, but I cannot imagine that Chris, Steve, Rick or Alan could begrudge the sheer quality of the musicianship. Congratulations.
Ultimate.... "Like the time I ran away Turned around and you were standing close to me Like the time I ran away Turned around and you were standing close to me....."
