Rest in peace, Vangelis. For me, this is the best piece of music you ever created. The world has lost an amazing person and composer. Thank you for the beautiful music.
Back when this Album came out, (I had this on Cassette), I would listen to Horizon before I went to sleep every night. Back then, I had terrible trouble sleeping, and it would really help. Not to say this song is a lullaby. Just dreamy and magical.
This along with The Friends of Mr Cairo is in my mind one of the real masterpieces of Jon and Vangelis. They did so much really really good music together.
This piece is even older than classic. It is an organ work from the baroque period by Johann Sebastian Bach called Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor (BWV 582).
To wszystko stworzyło magiczną chwilę.
I've just listened to this for the first time in probably 20 years. The CD was on a bottom shelf forgotten about and waiting for the right time. Brought me to tears. It changed me.
I have a similar relationship with this album as well as 'Short Stories' which came out at a time when I was struggling in life. This music helped calm me, help me sleep, inspire me and keep me focused on overcoming the challenges. Amazing how music can have such a positive impact on one's life. I would give anything to be able to meet Vangelis just to say "Thank you".
In amongst the rings of confusion Silencing the thought powers one by one It seems all so incredible Our own ability to confuse, to sacrifice To enlighten like a Shakespearian play We foolish and happily hold on to sanity While all around the pushing And prodding of our feelings The twisting and turning of our hearts Displaying an almost indefinable strength Of purpose, a reason, a reason, a reason Where no reasons seem to exist Yet, as in a vision, a voice transcending All our imagination, jewel of life Guiding light heralding a joyous new dawn Clear and gifted time Divine nature, super nature The supreme gift of knowledge and space In this cacophony of life Peace will come Peace will come Peace will come Will come Peace will come Peace will come Peace will come Will come true horizon Come true horizon Come true horizon Come true horizon Peace will come Peace will come Peace will come Will come true horizon Come true horizon Come true horizon Come true horizon Peace will come [Repeat x 3] Will come Reach for the starlight Reach when it calls you You, you are the reason If you want You are the answer in the end La la la's... Sweet music, and your secret heart Both have the healing grace Sweet music, and your secret heart Both have the healing grace So again, a change, it comes Our world desires a way Touch a child who's lost, afraid, It lifts you to true emotion True feelings, be the light All that is good in this life Is good, good is good Oh everlasting dream, oh future come alive To witness comes that time I just can't help but believe in life, All in all I just can't help but believe there is a way For us to give, a way for us to live A way for us, a way for us... Thanks Jon Anderson and Vangelis for your wonderful creations together and for the life of each one of you and the musicians who have delivered us these jewels.
This is just so deeply touching our souls. It's unreal!!! What a masterpiece! True geniuses. First time ever heard it. My soul is enriched with rialization. Thank you all. 5*****.0.01%
Listen to this i don't remember how many times. Just love this. It has something of blade runner in it.. Vangelis is such a talented musician. This is my all time favorite songs from Jon & Vangelis.
This is the perfect example of a modern symphony. Vangelis uses the synthesizers as though they were traditional acoustic instruments as part of an orchestra. He does this exceptionally well. In combination with Jon Anderson's ethereal voice, it makes for a startlingly beautiful piece of music. It's my personal favourite piece by Vangelis, and likely one of the best pieces of music ever made. It's an electronic masterpiece.
This opus represents Jon and Vangelis at their pinnacle. The angelic vocals of Jon Anderson and the magnificence of Vangelis' synth work is truly amazing. This piece is filled with sublime power and emotion. I first heard this masterpiece some 30 odd years ago and it can still elicit strong feelings to this day. The climax can still induce tears. Peace will Come! True Horizon!
Plagiarising means you are using somebody else's work without giving credit to the creator of the material you are using. I don't have this album so I cannot tell whether Vangelis gave credit to Bach. If he did then it isn't plagiarising, if he didn't then it is.
That's ridiculous. Vangelis is known as one of the best composers of the late 20th/early 21st centuries and so far as I know _NOBODY_ has ever accused him of stealing from the great composers of the past. If he plagiarized from Bach, as you contend, this would have been big news and would have ruined his reputation. Who do you think Vangelis is? Some talentless schmuck who is incapable of writing great music? I listened to the Bach piece in question and to me it sounds _nothing like_ "Horizon". And no, Vangelis didn't give Bach a writing credit because Bach DIDN'T WRITE IT! He may have been influenced by Bach but to claim that he outright _stole_ from him is a lie.
I was big into J a V back in the early and mid 80s even before I got into Yes. I haven't listened to them for many years but today on Father's day I thought I'd go back to those days and this one I remember well. The epic! Horizon!
I have only known Jon through his work with Yes and a few of his solo efforts. I have missed out on much. I have a lot of catching up to do! This gave me chills.
Thanks to You Tube which I visit several times a day, and the wonder of windows I can listen to whole albums while on word. And I dont need to get up and turn the 45 over. Jarre, Mike Oldfield and Vangelis are so easy for our younger generation to find and enjoy to round off the day. Morning sees The Stranglers a bit of Quo etc and by the comments people are discovering all sorts of music. David.
I heard it for the first time in 1975. But the original. You might like the original, too. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1atQFLYbzuk.html

There is nothing to compare this with, but if you choose you can compare it with the beauty of nature!! Thanks Jon and Vangelis for this dream to the ear!!
This is one of the only videos I have ever seen to have 0 dislikes that has over 10,000 views. (30000 as of this comment) Proves how good the music is.
Remember that Horizon was the "Side B" of the LP. Can you believe it? This shows clearly that back in the LP years, we always heard the Side B before the Side A. This piece of music is celestial.
Among his finest works, sure, but my favorites are "Opéra Sauvage" (especially "Rêve", which is exactly that - a dream!), "Mask" (dense, not easy listening, but extremely powerful - especially the short but intense "Movement 2"), and "China" (especially "Chung Kuo", the opening track).
We burned a DVD with some music on it for my father's funeral. We played Chung Kuo when his coffin was rolled in for the memorial service.. It's been almost 20 years ago, but every time I listen to Chung Kuo I remember my father...
Mate...I was 12 when this came out. It inspired me to make my own music. Ive been a fan of Jon Anderson and all things Yes since. Vangelis was brilliant in the 70s an 80s...dont hear as much from him now. Hopefully you might find some of my work interesting, look me up on facebook or soundcloud. Good to see the youth have great taste!
Escuha musica y podras opinar,Recuerdos a TONA .
This is real music! Ive just finished working on a track with a guy who has written a track for Jon Andersons last solo album. JA inspires, whether you are a musician or just a lover of music
@Smashbrosforlife I understand completely. What makes this song so wonderful is that the lyrics were written with as much skill and compassion as was the music. The first time I ever heard this was on a college FM station in New Jersey. Afterwards, the DJ apologized (!) saying he had to play a long song because they were using a vacuum cleaner in the control room. That day I went out and bought this on vinyl. This track took up ALL of Side B! I played it until I nearly wore the grooves off.
Vangelis was one of the few considered in '74 to replace Rick Wakeman in Yes before Patrick Moraz took to the keys, but the musical relationship with JA started. Amazing stuf!!
