"If your piano has six strings, that's a guitar, my friend." I don't know why, but this made me crack up so hard I had to pause the video. (I may be sleep-deprived)
@@yasmineabouali6537 On an upright piano, it either pulls down a bar with felt or brings the hammers closer to the keys. Either way, it's kind of like the soft pedal only a lot softer. On a grand piano, it takes the dampers off the string of each key you are currently depressing as you push the pedal down. So it's like the right pedal (sustain pedal) but only for your selection of notes. It can be fun to see the piano from the inside and study what happens when you press a key or pedal. By the way, I'm a pianist and piano teacher and I approve this video ;)
pianofiend I need to learn how to play the piano or violin or something. I grew up as a bit of a gamer so I kind of have a bit of a preference for game music, old and new, original and remixed. I just think it would be nice just to learn how to play something pleasant for people once in a while. Here are a couple of examples. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-B_ngOvVoBvg.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jth4WDPoNtE.html
+Male Geisha I was at this taping and when the picture came up I literally couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard. I think that's partially the reason why the audience laughs a bit late. It was hilarious!
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else wants to discover learning how to play piano online try Jadonite Piano Player Buddy (just google it ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my brother in law got amazing success with it.
According to Wikipedia, the middle pedal on any upright piano is a "practice" pedal, similar to turning the volume all the way down on a digital keyboard . . . (?)
2:35 That middle pedal? It's called the sostenuto pedal, and it only "targets" specific notes. I was watching a master class taught by the Hungarian pianist, Andras Schiff. While giving advice on how to play a work by Janacek, he suggested the student use the middle pedal to sustain one particular note because that's what the middle pedal does - it will sustain a single note or chord, while other notes remain unaffected. I thought, "Okay, so FINALLY someone tells me!"
Dearest Mr. Jon Batiste, Mr. Colbert, and Friends, This is hilarious!!! Done with such natural talent, style, and complete with comedic confidence. I just cannot get enough!!! Please continue to keep it rollin’ out fresh and hot!!! Lovin’ you guys! 😊❤️🎤 P.S. I could smell through my screen that that beautiful piano was a Steinway & Sons. The Best playin’ with the Best!!! Nothing but love to you. ❤️🕊✨🐾🌎🐾💫🕊❤️
It took me 26 years to discover what the middle pedal does haha. It sustains specific keys that you select; press and hold whatever keys you want sustained then hold the pedal down
Jon Batiste is awesome! and he deserves all the money he's making. but my real question is, how much does that guy 4:01 make in a year, I'm talking about the guy playing the tambourine? I have the distinct feeling that he makes a lot more than me
