He's not the new Kubrick. He's the one who's most heavily influenced by Kubrick. But this generation's Kubrick is Tarantino without a doubt. Like PTA, he shares the "singular voice" aspect of Kubrick as well as the importance they give to the filmography. However, unlike Tarantino and Kubrick, PTA can not pull the big budget movies and get the funding to make big movies to explore their artistic vision. The bigness of his movies and his ability to have them funded (which no body else could do at the time) was something very unique about Kubrick. And that goes with Tarantino. PTA shares more common elements in the visual storytelling aspects with Kubrick, but that doesn't make him his successor.
Nikhil Miko What are you even talking about? What does funding have to do with anything first of all. And secondly putting Tarantino's name next to PTA and Kubrick is outright blasphemy. Tarantino is a mainstream filmmaker. His filmmaking abilities are great but not even close to the Masters of cinema some of which are PTA, Kubrick etc.
If I ever decide to wait for a mark in his living room, sitting in his LazyBoy,.... then air him out when he walks in the house with a .45........ I'm gonna listen to this on the way to the job.
This is an INSANE full circle moment for me. I am literally listening to late registration right now. But then I paused when I got to 'Rosie' so that I could listen to the Bill Withers original song here on youtube. And the next video recommended for me here on youtube was this (maybe because I've watched it before because I have no idea how it relates to the Bill Withers song). And then I see your comment.
