UFC 140: Jones vs. Machida was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on December 10, 2011, at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
At UFC 140, Jon Jones overcame what was at the time the most difficult opponent of his career to choke out Lyoto Machida late in the second round and retain his light heavyweight title.
Jones was tested like he has never been tested before and passed with flying colors. In the first round, Machida found openings in Jones' stand-up and charged through them forcefully. The Dragon appeared to win the round.
He had never been hit hard in the cage, and with apologies to Matt Hamill had never cleanly lost a round. All the uncertainty about how he would fare in the proverbial deep water can be considered resolved.
Jones regrouped in the second round, scoring a takedown and opening Machida's forehead with an elbow. Soon after, Jones locked in a standing guillotine choke. When he released the choke, Machida fell to the mat in a heap, and another one bit the dust.

I dont consider chokes even close to being the scariest subs, most defo its something like a tight Kimura kneebar or armbar something that causes a pop.
@coolman54061
@coolman54061 8 дней назад
@@tarci2994 one reason why chokes like this are scary is because it’s harder to tell when the loses consciousness. Because if you hold a choke too long hold you can kill someone. People can feel when their limbs are broken. Someone you can even hear it happen. But chokes are quiet and sometimes hard to see. That’s why refs will grab their hands. If they feel no pressure they’ll stop the fight. Good chance Lyoto was unconscious 4-5 seconds before the ref even realized

Those guys were trying to knock each other out long before then, and Lyoto has legit one-punch knockout power. They aren't concerned with hitting the mat when they're choked out. The mat is their playground. I'd agree with you if JJ body-slammed him while he was choked out. As well, Lyoto should've tapped if he were that concerned - instead, he pulled a YOLO and got CTFO.

Gotta give it to Machida for beating Jones in strikes despite reach disadvantage. Jones' trump card was always his spinning elbows. It drastically changes the fight and defense against it has not been studied much because nobody else had used it as effectively as Jones. His first fight with Gustafsson was an example of this. Machida was already broken because of the elbows by the time he got choked. Jones' elbows are his most dangerous weapons.

I always refer to this fight when people say Francis can beat Jones. If Jones still has those elbows, Francis will experience cutting so bad when they fight, it won’t be good🩸. There’s not enough time in the world for Francis to become as good of wrestler & grappler as Jones. Coming off an Injury and facing a warmed up Jones (if he takes the Stipe fight), spells disaster for Ngannou.

Ele venceu o Lyoto pelo cansaço. Lyoto tinha técnicas superiores. Fiquei surpreso com essa luta. Quando Lyoto estava com 100% da energia, o John Jones não teve chance.

At least he didn't quit, went out like a true Gladiator on his shield. If it wasn't for that Cobra clutch hold around the neck, "The Dragon " was winning the striking match... except when he was on his back, and those elbows were dropping down on him...

Jones perdeu durante toda a luta, Machida foi incrível nessa luta, aí vem gente falar que foi humilhante a derrota desse jeito, tão de brincadeira se o Jon Jones não faz isso ele perde pro dragão.

Jon took that personal. And in other videos you can hear guys ring side telling “Big John”!! He’s out! And Jon was actually holding him up; but the drop of his unconscious body was personal.

Sem desmerecer o Jon Jones que é espetacular mas...Gustafsson ganhou dele a primeira vez que lutaram em 2013, mas tal de decisão unanime sempre favorece o atual campeão, e o Belfort ficou com dó de quebrar o braço dele...
