Tom Aspinall just knocked out Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 to retain the interim heavyweight title and today we discuss how he matches up to Jon Jones Follow me On instagram: / cheblair For Business Inquires: ytmmache@gmail.com
@@ABHIMANYUKUMAR-jp4jp Stipe hasn't beaten anyone currently on the UFC roster and hasn't won a fight since 2020 on top of being over 40 and walking with a limp, so Jones is willing to take that fight
@ABHIMANYUKUMAR-jp4jp He is referring to the guys whom jones was fighting at the beginning of his career Most of them were inflated middleweight (Size wise) Them vs. jones was a comparable fight to belal mohammed fighting alex perira at LHW
@@theghost4984let’s see all the former LHW/HW title holders Jones beat shall we Rampage, Machida, Shogun, Gane, DC, Glover, Vitor, Rashad, Bader, Vera, and then top contenders like Gus as well
Aspinall is the the backup fighter for Jon vs Stipe, but I believe if Stipe can't make it* to the fight, JJ wouldn't still face Aspinall. He'd walk away.
@saljewsteinbergowitz yeah our only slim chance of seeing this fight is only if jon has a full camp specifically tailored for tom. And even that is a HUGE maybe..
I don’t think Jon Jones fans even realize that if you were to build a hypothetical fighter to be the perfect guy to defeat Jones, it would literally be Tom Aspinall. A bigger, stronger dude with great boxing and 1 punch ko power, who’s also got enough of a ground game to not just get rag dolled. Edit: even has 100% takedown defense and 100% takedown accuracy
Aspinall could even WIN on the ground, he was trained from youth in grappling, was trained by the first english BJJ blackbelt, AND he's stronger than Jones. Jones' only chance is eyepokes
@@gigachad6885 yup, we saw from dominic reyes and alex gustafson that just takedown defense is enough, tom went way above and beyond and could very possibly sub jon on the ground, on the feet just fast boxing is enough, tom have that plus a one punch ko power, size wise, gus and reyes is still a tiny bit smaller than jon, and even someone shorter like thiago santos can still nearly beat jon, meanwhile tom is taller and bigger than jon, tom is not only qualified but overqualified to be jon's absolute nightmare
@@ionel630 Stipe is 42 has a limp and slurred speech, I would absolutely love it if he could and would love to be wrong but I don't think he can anymore
Not true. Come on. This is getting old. Jones was scheduled to fight Stipe. Tom is on a streak and understandably clawing for Jones. That doesn’t make him ducking.
@@renelvital it's literally the worst duck in ufc history. GDR comes to mind but at least she vacated. They are literally saving old man Stipe for Jones. Stipe shouldn't have been scheduled to fight him in the first place, let alone now.
@@renelvital Time waits for no one. They should have fought when they did. And since they didn't, that makes both of them that much older. That makes both of them have that much more ring rust. That makes both of them that much less qualified to be heavyweight champ. And that holds the division up that much more. That extra time is ruining it for everybody. Not just for Tom Aspinall, who should actually be the real champ by now (Jones is messing up Aspinall's undisputed title defenses/legacy)... but he's also messing it up for the fans because we see the belt is not where it should be. Jones should have vacated the belt. Or the UFC should have stripped him.
Jones was given the chance from older opponents to fight them when he was a young upcoming star. It's disappointing, speaks badly about his sportsmanship, to not pay back by giving Tom the opportunity. He can't just fight older competition for all his life. Eventually he has to put himself on the back foot. As DC and Shogun Rua did, as Miocic is doing now.
@@misterwachulochulo5262 what he said shouldn’t be repeated for the most part. he did call him a toothless lot lizard and verbally assaulted Che’s family and ancestors
@@renelvitalI don’t think the best Jones ever could happen after years of inactivity, injuries, a heavier weight class and with stricter drug tests. Even if he wanted to improve, we’ve already seen the best Jones.
Tom Aspinall beats Jon Jones. He beats prime Jon jones, he beats Jon jones now. “Prime Jon jones” is already a cope for the casuals… “prime jones” was a roided light heavyweight that couldn’t finish osp 🤣🤣
@@saljewsteinbergowitz I haven't seen anything that suggests that Aspinall automatically beats Jones... Aspinall never fought anybody who fights like Jones. Or Any Wrestlers.... If all it takes is a tall guy with fast hands and fast feet to beat Jones he would have got knocked out A Long long time ago.
@@liamjohansson7520 Blaydes didn't even try to Wrestle... In fact since Lewis punched the life out of him he's kind of been done with Wrestling. Jones is not going to get into a fist fight with Tom in the pocket like Tom's other opponents... Like he's been doing His whole career.
@@mxbblife_muTom is a better striker with one touch knockout power and insane speed for a heavyweight. If Jon can't take him down in the first 30 seconds then he joins the list of Tom's fast first round finishes. We haven't seen Jon strike at heavyweight but he never had power in a lower division and everyone else has power at heavyweight. Tom might even be able to submit Jon since he's a bjj blackbelt training his while life.
@jon9558 I would hope not obviously, It seems like you framed that question to be condescending rather than a genuine inquiry, and that's not very nice 😠
Nah, the divison moved past Jones the moment Jon refused a unification fight. At this point, Tom is the real champ unless Jones wants to prove him wrong. We can straight up just ignore Jones until he fights Tom, now. Literally, who cares what he says until he fights Tom
@@BingeThinker1814 nah He Not refused, the fight against stipe was scheduled way before aspinall got His Interim titel, Jones want Stipe immediately after He beat Gane and why skip Stipe? He dont pulled Out of the fight, He deserve this Legend fight after that aspinall can fight Jones for His Interim title😅
@@ionel630 he can fight Stipe all he wants. Jones has put more effort getting people interested in a Periera fight than an Aspinall one. He will literally fight drug testing agents, an old man or a kickboxer with no ground game before he ever considers the rightful interim champ of the division because he's ducking him.
The main thing with Aspinall is I think some of his entries are a bit reckless. He was getting tagged by Curtis, Pav and Volkov but just never really matter because he was able to counter em before they were able to sit down on there punches / pick up the timing. The speed deficit might be too much for that to for that to ever matter, but just my assessment.
Watch the slow mo of Curtis first fight. Curtis didn’t land a single clean strike to the head. And if aspinall was able to eat a pavlovich bomb to the chin like nothing, jones can not do anything to hurt him
I dont understand how people can watch Jones lose to Reyes, Barely scrape by against Santos, not be able to finish Anthony Smith, beat a bunch if middle weights and go "Yeah Jones by whatever he wants😂"
@@mxbblife_munah you’re just a goofy casual. Anyone with half a brain knew Jon would walk through 0 wrestling Gane. Aspinall would put Jon jones lights out.
@@mxbblife_mu Considering Gane's complete lack of wrestling skill, your comment makes no sense. What Jones did to Gane would never work on a skilled grappler of his own size. Jones couldn't even take down Dominick Reyes.
Love how you can watch jones dominate glover. Beat dc, and Gus 1,2. And just act like Aspinall will have an easy win and knock jones out cold. Acting like jones is Curtis Blaydes or Sergei.
This is true, this is the one question we have about him. Unfortunately for the rest of the division I don’t think it matters. Tom KOs them all in the first round (maybe Gane has the mobility to avoid an early KO but Tom will just take him down and sub him first round instead). Jones is no exception, he gets slept before he can land any eye pokes and test Tom’s grappling/cardio/heart.
Tom and Tyson Fury are not main sparring partners. Tom Helped Tyson with a camp when he was much younger and just kept in touch with them helping every now and again
Tom Aspinall is definitely a nightmare for Jon Jones. Jon Jones would have to drag him into the deep waters (and Jon can with his skillset) But this is Heavyweight we're talking about.....there are no margin for errors.
Agreed I feel like the only way aspinall loses is if he gets too worked up in the buildup and maybe makes a bad move due to alpt of pressure on him The crappy thing if you think about it is that all the pressure is om tom everyone expects jones to lose at this point so it's up to Tom to deliver the results after chasing the fight so long I hope he finally gets it and finishes jones
it's so funny that dana says jones is the most dangerous guy on earth when he went to a decision with reyes, which he lost, and then reyes went to be knocked out in the first or second round 5 fights in a row by 5 different guys. that makes jones far from the most dangerous guy on earth.
People forget jon ran from francis for 3 years. He was scared to fight Francis and toms scarier. At least there was a possibility of wrestling francis. Hes not got a feasible path to victory against Tom
Except he does. There’s a good chance that Jon can find a weakness he can exploit against Aspinall. What if he takes him down and wears him out over a couple of rounds. Every fighter has a weakness
Goat of beating up old middleweights? Or Goat of Steroid use ? Or Maybe the Goat of beating up women ? Oh wait maybe you mean Goat of Felonies ? Hmm Take your pick I guess 😅😂
Hopefully Jon takes this fight. Think that win or lose he is still number 1. And the reasons for him to take this fight I think benefit him so much more than the reasons not to. If he goes in there and beats Aspinall, the goat debate is locked up for a decade at least. Maybe longer if Tom dominates the division as I think he will. And if Jon loses, so what? He will gain respect for taking the fight when he really doesn’t have to, and a loss to Aspinall isn’t some career breaking loss. Now to the fight itself, I do believe that jones gets it done. But tbh it’s such an interesting fight and it’s honestly a dream fight. Wouldn’t be mad or surprised if Aspinall beats him, or finishes him.
It really would be crazy if Jon Jones fights Tom and Beats Tom. I don't think Jones fans understand that we would all respect that. It's the fact Tom will fight Jon whether he loses or not. Jon it doesn't seem he will fight Tom & that's what's so frustrating & fake about this & people saying Jon without a doubt is the best.. It's like let's prove it then? No biggie, nothing personal, purely competitive, purely a test of athletic abilities. Come on!
As a jones fan i think that even a loss on jones record doesn’t change his place at 1. But the thing is he’s already at 1. Does he truly need this fight? When he’s past his prime, built up a great resume.
It's hard to believe Jones is afraid of any fighter after going through the murderer's row of former champs at 205. I really think he just enjoys trolling online and doing everything he can to stay relevant for as long as possible without actually fighting.
Jones fight IQ is far superior to anything Aspinall has ever faced at this point “I don’t see a path to victory for Jon” it’s literally Jon Jones what u talking about here 😂
Che, I will preface that I agree with you on most levels there, but there are a couple of things, in support of your point Tom Aspinall is actually a black belt and has been doing jujitsu for longer than most current UFC fighters, That said, if any MMA fighter is going to set up a good takedown without striking it would be Jon Jones and not only because of how good Jones was, but I like to remind you that he only started training with Gordon Ryan after the Cyril Gane fight, that he won by submission in less than 2 minutes, As much as I think he's going to be rusty imagining Jon Jones with any advantage on his grappling especially one from somebody like Gordon Ryan is terrifying in and of itself.
@jrodzilla24 well I'd imagine it'd come from wrestling, and I'd say we were right in the fact that the one Grey area in terms of Aspinalls skill set is how he looks off his back. If Jon beats him another way I really dont know what I would say
Crazy that jones is still fighting stipe even though we have an interim champ, like how is this allowed? If the current champion is healthy he always has to fight the interim champ bruh, not fight an old man. Idc if he wanted to fight stipe before the injury, ditch that fight because now there’s an interim champ
i said this on 1 of toms video's and everyone started going mad at me ahaha because its true, Aspinal is and absolute force of nature, but his stand defense is not good, when he throws punches, his hands stay down and he closes his eyes, and when he moves back using head movement there is huge holes to hit him that alex pereira would take advantage of, look at the pavlovich fight, he did it in this fight watch when he throws the punches with curtis, he wide open for counters, Tom is amazing he has very little holes in his game but that is 1, he needs to cover that hole, if i can see it, pereira can.
He starts of so fast , wonder how good is cardio is after 1st round. Granted he has a fast start and puts full force in his punches and kos guys, what if guys slip and avoid his punches initially and get him tired, he also leaves him self open for punches.
Yes but jones is good at slipping punches like what happened with Gane. And he took him down. Don't see Tom getting up easily from the ground as Jon is as heavy 250lb . Granted if jones doesn't slip properly he can get kod .
I think aspinal beats jones dude is old lol he literally just turned 37 but tbh jones is a grappler mainly we know aspinal is a good grappler but we also never seen him fight someone who’s actively trying to get him down to
jon just has to accept that this is the fight game, and their is passing of the torch, same like adsenaya vs anderson or if he thinks he is good enough, he can go in there and win and prove he is a level above but ducking just means he would lose, he is 37 not 45. and so he does not mind fighting stipe and claim a win over him even though he is in his 40s but he think he is tool old suddenly to fight a guy who is younger than him?? seems contradictory to me.
What about Cyril Gane?, I mean his striking compared with Tom Aspinalls. I see Aspinall been more well rounded, but just wondering.. The fight between Jones and Gane was underwhelming to say the least.
@@bennettfender9927 so for you the difference would be not in the setup of the takedown but in the takedown defense itself? I felt the takedown Jones did to Gane was “sloppy” and kinda worked because of Gane’s mistake over reaching with his punch.. and he just got stucked in between Jones and the cage.
Jon Jones isn’t scared of him. heavyweight was just a side quest. If Jon Jones could become an athletic 260lb fighter he would be solid and fight at heavyweight but he’s not. Jon is solid at 220 and bloated+slow at 240. Jon is simply too small to fight Tom. John can win against one dimensional heavyweights or small heavyweights
Jon Jones weighs 270 lbs now and he certainly isn't fat. As far as being slow, it doesn't really matter in Jones case. His main game plan Always been is to Grapple NOT get into Fist Fights with guys.
I completely disagree with you but we won’t know unless the fight actually happens and who knows if it ever will. Seeing how jones is he might retire before fighting Stippe.
Jon jones is still one my favorite fighters but I wanna see him get wrecked. I think we all should hype jones through the roof give him confidence that he wins so he takes the fight
I believe that Curtis Blaydes would actually beat Alex Periera. He's fast for a heavyweight and extremely strong. Good takedown entries. I don't think Curtis is dumb enough to strike with Alex either.
Tom has 100% tdd. Also, he's a legit black belt in jiu jitsu. Not only that, but he's also faster than jones and more explosive, so he would 100% get up quickly from a takedown
@saljewsteinbergowitz he's a very high level grappler yh that's what makes him such a nightmare match up for jon but I'm just saying if jon was to win I think that's how he should go about it as he has the advantage in the wrestling and has much more experience where as Tom has only been in the 2nd round once so when it gets to that 3rd 4th 5th round I think jon would thrive
When I learned kickboxing I can tell MMA striking is so garbage. Seeing Curtis blades overextending is jab against a counter boxer like tom Aspinwall is ridiculous. You see a lot of MMA guys throwing punches and drop da hands, feet to wide dropping head directly to a knee strike. Conor McGregor, Alex Pereira, Israel adesanya, Leon Edwards , even Islam machachev are great strikers because they have da basic kickboxing fundamentals. Ilia touria is a great boxer because he learned real boxing, Lyoto Machida was a good striker because he has a real karate black belt. Even in wrestling and ground game I see a lot of fighters doing a lot of sparring and rolls but they don't spend any time work on their technique, it's all brave and brute strength.
