This is actually one of the only live performances on youtube that I just play on the background while I'm on my computer doing other stuff. The sound quality is great and the music is stunning, what a great live band.
"one of the best live performance i have ever seen." And me! THat dirty rock n roll flame alive and well with them even now, passed down from the likes of New York Dolls (73).
i can't stop watching this. amazing. i love the moog! i love how they don't even need a bass player. I love how raw and awesome it is. i can't get enough of it. another thing: French TV rocks. American TV would've had to cut this off at 5 min. gone to commercial and then come back. People hate on France a lot, but their TV spoils you when you go back to the US.
its the older generation...like many amican hatin countries, the young folks dont hate. France had some great bands of the 90s and 00s--Feeling of Love were amazing, got better when they moved on from garage--stayed at my house and were one of the nicest bands to stay up all night partying to my records...they even said they were too messed up to speak english and didnt want to be rude, so we just turned up the stereo and kept laughing at nothing! they didnt speak french to not be rude... Great band!
and it seemed like everywhere but Japan (ironically) were the last country not to hate america! the japanese LOVE americans and american culture. Europe hated on america, not sure why...but everyone i knew who moved to France said that was an ageing generation. even countries like Iran...its the older generation. America is a weird place right now...cow-towing to China and our politicians are a corrupt mess. anyway, when was this filmed? Spencer is a reserved, polite and humble man off stage, but on stage...no jokes...serious biz.
think thats a theramin. never seen him use a moog on stage...they are a pain in the ass. i have one and the microkorg is easier to let go, moogs take both hands and your undivided attention. definitely theremin. dont even need to touch it... never seen spencer flip out like this. mtv in the usa wouldnt touch a band like this...at any point, and i dont think he aspired to that. he could have, but as watt said...some battles aint worth fighting. even Caroline was a shitty indie that treated bands like they were a major. they had the balls to tell Mudhoney to "sweeten up their sound"...they took less money and more freedom on Reprise...until Reprise found out they were using a fraction of the 200k recording budget and buying houses...the courtney love jab was the end. they saved subpop who owed them big money and stayed then nirvana exploded...both didnt see coming or they woulda never left. just sales of Bleach and vinyl rights to Nevermind was like winning the lottery
...one of the best JSBX live clips here on AdTube I've so far seen -- killer medley of two of their songs!!! Seriously, this one rivals their performance on an Australian TV-show back in the '90s for one of their best live performances caught on camera!!!
2:50 "Fuck you!", that was one of the coolest things I've ever seen anyone do on a stage hahahaha... Such a great live performance, you don't see stuff like this much at all nowadays. People aren't "doing their own thing", but blending into the mainstream, it's sad!
no bass guitar in jon spencer blues explosion no. but judah bauer (guitarist on the left) is always playing his electric guitar plugged on an amp for bass guitars. that's why it sounds like this.
"YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! THE BLUES IS NUMBER ONE! YEAH! YEAH! BLUES EXPLOSION! BLUES EXPLOSION! Bluuuuuues EXPLOSION!" Haha, fucking AMAZING!!! The way he just goes on at the end, genius!
ok, I liked it, but there has been a longer version on YT before. It started with an introduction at the TV show wehre they played the song, wich I miss on this edit. It has a way stronger impact to the end with the intro.
saw this band for the first time 10 years ago. jon was wearing a canary yellow shirt, and to this day he is still the sexiest thing i have ever seen on a stage. and still the best concert...
Seen 'em live. Only once unfortunately. But they were the best live act I've ever seen! Hopefully I will be able to see them live again. Edit: I just checked to see if they're still active, and unfortunately they've split up permanently 2016.
Phibess, a very classy, measured response. The fact is that music IS about playing the correct notes or it would not be music. The obvious question is who determines what's correct so you make a valid point. We all started out in the garage but didn't go public screamimng "The Blues are Number One" with no clue as to what the blues represent or their actual structure. He chose the name "Blues Explosion", not me! Peace
all you ever wanted to know about the essence of rock `n`roll - and then some! just saw the blues explosion last night - and they still kick some serious ass! don`t miss out if these guys come visit your town...
Great video. i grew up in ny in the 90s. this guys show was always the shit. I remember leaving a show of his at Tramps without my shirt or a shoe. I didn't care. It is maybe sad that people don't rock this way anymore, but i am not going to be an old man and weep for the youth. We had our fun. This is evidence.
@fmalitz 1. In this very video he says "I DO NOT PLAY NO BLUES" several times. No JSBX is not orthodox blues, their music is a blend of noise, garage, blues rock, soul, punk, rockabilly.. What's wrong with a garage band? 2. Legit performance? Are you kidding, JSBX is one of the best life acts you'll ever find. Watch 2 Kindsa Love live on Recovery & if you're still not getting it then I'm sorry. Music isn't just about playing correct notes. if you want more bluesy stuff watch Devil Got My Woman.
I saw them also 1999 but not in rome, it was in nuernberg in june and i was totally blown away... energetic, sexy, dark, passionate....i will never forget too....remember the days!
i feel... deflowered, this is the first time i actually can understand why once upon a time people thought that rock'n'roll is dangerous for their kids.
@fmalitz Thanks, I enjoyed it too. Hendrix lame? In 200 years he will still sound like he came from outer space, pure genius. I love blues and have great respect for true bluesmen so if I'm ever in Chicago I hope I'll catch one of your shows. Take care.
@fmalitz That is a matter of opinion, Frank, to me this is a great raw performance, seems you forgot the word "explosion" in their name here;) Maybe you prefer a more polished or cultivated appearance but there's also The Who, Iggy Pop & the Stooges, old Stones.. To me JSBX are mainly a rock & roll band, who cares about the title. Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues isn't blues either. Peace.
"Mr. Spencer has requested an extra 100 feet of microphone lead wire for his performance..." French people do not get THE BLUES, nor do they understand ROCK N ROLL!!!!!!!!!!
Russell is one groovy fuckin bahamas-mama!! Judah is one fuckin juicy soul-bro´!! Jon, my god, my Elvis, my fuckin rockin blues-Zeus!! Blues Explosion! My implosion!
@theoriginaljeffro from your remark i take it you have never actually been at a rock gig in France ..have you? I have toured in about 25 different countries with a punk/garage rock band and France is one of the the best places to play this kind of stuff. The French LOVE Rock and Roll!!! i think you are assuming something about the French while you are actually thinking of a middle aged audience in a daytime chat-show.. you think JSBE could pull a stunt like this on Oprah? think not.. ;-)
Attention! All posers and wannabes! Take note! The blues! is number! ONE!!!!!!! This is, the way it should be done!!!!!!!!! If this doesn't get someone in a rockin' mood, I don't know what will. Incredible clip/performance! Can I get a witness?!
