@@ShadowAssassin7 and trump actually did say Manafort is a good guy for not flipping on a known criminal. What is trump going to say now? Since Manafort did in fact flip on trump, a known criminal.
Not yet Rico, just give it time though. He was being charged with crimes from 2006-2017 so we factually know that at least some of his charges spawned during his time working with Trump.
Came for John, stayed for the message. Hope contemporary comedians mature like he has. Always been a fan. EDIT: 3 years later and Jon Stewart is the one hosting dishonest conversations about race, making him look a lot more like 2005's Tucker Carlson-- the same Carlson he pretended to hate on cross-fire (all while Carlson actually gives leftists a chance to speak on his show). Absolutely embarrassing.
To be fair, Stewart was always like that off of his show (at least once he started appearing off of his show). He was a joker on the show, because that was the concept, but he's always been incredibly articulate, and very much in favor of building bridges between groups rather than setting them on each other.
theprincesspeach94 No, and this is actually the greatest disservice you could do to Jon Stewart. Stewart REALLY is the clown sitting at the kings knee, and he will tell ANY king the truth. Fox is the king's proxy, Jon just did what he has always done, put his neck in the noose to tell the truth. His personal ideology crosses party lines because it is to the truth, not left or right partisan hackery
Well, these are some harsh words Sutekh, but you are right. He does not bury the hatchet, he takes the hatchet to where it can be used for the greatest benefit.
I absolutely despise Fox as an establishment, but this was absolutely brilliant, and big respect to Shep for asking some good questions. This is the fair and balanced you're supposed to represent, Fox. Keep this up.
Fox does not hide that they are a right leaning news network, whereas CNN, MSNBC, et al - all say they are a neutral, which they clearly are not. They would get less ridicule if they would just be honest about their left leaning bias. Jake Tapper is probably the only CNN jorno that is least biased.
@@laijer I have no doubt that the other organisations are biased and I'm not bothered about people exhibiting their bias and in fact encourage them to be open in their bias. What I want from organisations is to stop putting spin on things that don't need it; I read the news for honest representation of facts, not to have a narrative fed to me. I would have a lot more respect for Fox and all the other institutions if they openly supported whoever, then gave us content like this. That which informs the public and arms us to do what we can, not which terrifies them into hating everyone who doesn't think like them.
hard, hard disagree there, Dan. Mostly because CNN/MSNBC somewhat show their bias in the programming, just as FOX does. But like, they also will happily criticize a democrat/liberal target if that target is doing something that demands criticism. Don't see much of that on FOX. Maybe some, but by and large they swallow the GOP load on a regular basis.
+Dustin Wrye They're opinion people, and they get both higher ratings but also confused with the hard news people. Fox's Chris Wallace is possibly the best reporter on television.
@@sarfaraz.hosseini their opinions are pure propaganda. Same with any other "pundit" on any other network. It is insane to me that so many people need to hear these "opinions" and "talking points". Mindless drones their viewers are. The crap from all of their mouths is repeated without thought or consideration for the truth or nuance across the internet and in personal conversations by millions of their viewers every day. It is sickening they have taken over our politics. (And I'm talking of both conservatives and liberals.)
@@andrewisnotdead There are many people who share his opinion, on all sides of the political spectrum. I wouldn't put Tucker Carlson in the same category as Hannity because he's expressing such opinions. He has shown himself to have some integrity, whereas Hannity has nothing but a track record of lying, hypocrisy, deceit, propaganda.
Thanks Shep and Jon. I can't believe I'm giving a like to a Fox News video but this one deserves it. Everything after this show in the lineup only gets more insipid. You do good work Shep. I don't know why they keep you around considering what comes in the morning and the evening afterward but keep up the good work my man!
oblivion476 I'm thinking Jon Stewart appearing on fox about this was no coincidence. This is designed to the reach el presidenté, tRump loves Fox News. This is something Fox News watchers as well as most every other American feel the same about, nobody wants to see emergency workers, who have been hailed as heroes during one of the country's darkest moments, be treated like dirt and left to the wolves when the whole reason why they're dying of cancer at young ages is because of the toxic debris they were exposed to in the line of duty. It's completely inexcusable.
Simple. Moderate Republicans love him but since he’s attacked trump repeatedly they keep him on the sidelines. He and Chris Wallace should be in prime time every night
I miss you Jon! I always respected you and Fox’s ability to have civil conversations. I’m proud to see you still stick to your guns and stand for what you believe! I hope you win this fight, because it’s for everyone! God bless the First Responders and Victims of this tragedy!
And how come no one ever remembers all the construction workers that volunteered to go down and help never get any publicity only the people that were getting paid get publicity for helping
I hope people get to see the memorials. I cried when I went to the Oklahoma City bombing memorial and heard the audio of the daycare when it happened. I don’t understand how there is no solidarity on this issue?
Put your disdain of the host and one of the guests aside and listen to the message: Help the fine men and women who are dying now for their bravery 17 years ago.
Like if you're a right wing person and can't get behind this because of who the message is coming from, than you're a disgusting person. Stewart is on a network he mocked countless times, and was blasted as well by them. Yet here he is having an incredibly civil conversation that transcends party boundaries. OP I'm not saying anything negative about you just essentially agreeing. If these two parties that don't get a long can sit there and agree than it's something all Americans should be behind.
@@rbartow22 unfortunately most people arent as informed and level-headed as jon... And absolutely no conservative hosts stick to facts like shep, which forces him to disagree with fox often (hence the fox base always being butthurt over him)
@Noliarsclub because not only did the clintons nor bush cause 9/11, but that is fundamentally not how the law works... If you wanna talk about bush's war on terror that came after, as well as the invasion of iraq, we can talk about that.. Or how clinton was a shitty president and hillary as senator/secretary of state, we can have that discussion too.. But what you are saying is nonsense
+Xanthis Arian +Robert B +Gnuggets11 +shapeshfters I GIVE YOU *drumroll*......+Noliarsclub : EVERYTHING that the four of you have been saying, summarily ignored by the Trump base, and EVERYTHING that is currently wrong in America.
bigbabyzubas My friend, I think what you mean is that this SHOULDN’T BE partisan. Unfortunately, it is partisan, though I don’t think one party deserves 100% of the blame, bc the Dems and Republicans have a majority of Congressmen who are corrupt and in the pocket of Wall Street, not the people. Still, the unfortunate fact is that it’s consistently been Republican representatives and senators who have been the key folks blocking, stalling, attacking, etc., these programs. It shouldn’t be this way, as I think you mean to imply, and hopefully it won’t continue to be, and they’ll fund these programs until every last responder is gone. ✌🏼
This would be a complete non issue in any other westernised nation. They all have free, government provided healthcare not just for emergency workers, but for EVERYBODY. And it works out cheaper.
As was mentioned in the video, it is not only about healthcare but also compensation for those with illnesses. In many modern nations, not just "westernized," it would still not be an issue. Imagine if being a public service member automatically meant dying after ten years, but not receiving any bonus as compared to another line of work and not being able to change professions or even continue working as a public service member after some amount of time.
I am shocked and amazed that this comment, on a Fox News channel, has garnered so many thumb-ups. Even more shocked that you haven't been blasted with comments about socialism, being called a commie, Venezuela, etc.
@Herr Mensch Not that surprising, if you hop over to a CNN or BBC video it'll be filled with comments of right-wing name calling and hate speech. People tend to leave comments on the news sources biased against them, don't ask me why.
I'm all for giving news media a chance to come back from the sensationalist, outrage inducing style they've got going for easy views and therefor money. It's just no one ever does consistently. A few voices of reason make the crowd stay, while the rest of their rhetoric is built around trumped (that word has a whole new meaning nowadays) up stories made to either push an agenda or make an easy buck.
Get these heroes the funding they need to continue treatment. I could care less where it comes from or who advocates for it. This should be a bipartisan issue. Just get them the damn funding.
@@nerthus4685 why do you people think its an own to be like "oh republicans bad well... well... ahhhh democrats bad too". Yes correct. Leftists hate both parties and their media outlets for being corporatists.
oh look! billion dollars for military spending! and other billion dollars for military spending! what's that? fund healthcare for our people? we don't have that kinda money! oh wait!! more billion dollars for military spending! are we winning yet America??
Noelle Leger Noelle Leger I have no idea why I am doing this even when I know I am going to regret this but: 1. How would increase in security at the world trade center even matter during 9/11? Are the security forces going to take out their guns and start firing their guns at the massive airplane flying directly at them to get it to stop or do you have reason to believe that building security were equipped with anti-air missiles? 2. Yes, because the fire alarms did not ring in a way that indicated there was a real fire, I am going to ignore the loud sound of the building getting hit by the plane and I am going to ignore all the smoke visible from the window. 3. This tells me you have never been in a fire or earthquake drill before. Please tell me how the elevator is going to move when the power cuts out? Do you know what they call the "stairs" in an apartment? The "fire escape". None of these events remotely have anything to do with anything strange at all.
And it's a damn shame that it's ironic. Shep is a genuine journalist, that's why he had this bit on his show. And perhaps most importantly he didn't try to counter them when they said Republicans were against it.
If Republicans aren't supporting it, tell the people voting republican what their representatives are doing so they know. Jon's right - the only reason these bills have passed is because opponents were shamed into it.
“ 40 Wall Street actually was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and it was actually, before the World Trade Center, was the tallest and then, when they built the World Trade Center, it became known as the second-tallest. And now it’s the tallest ” Donald Trump September 11, 2001
Kamil Overkill Wow. Even back then he was more concerned about materialistic things than people. Only difference now is unfortunately on a world stage.
Last year Trump: "I would like to extend my best wishes to all, even the haters and losers, on this special date, September 11th.” This year Trump: "17 years since September 11th!" Really shows how much he cares
I can't believe we have to do this again. people call your senators, your reps and tell them to make this funding for the 9/11 responders permanent. period.
As I read the comments, it seems a lot of people are disliking or ignoring this issue because of the two center-left/liberals on here. I don't know, man, if your political views are all you have and it's your only identity, I don't think that's healthy. Care for the first responders first, then your little political culture war.
Well, it's Shep Smith - the only actual reporter at Fox News - and John Stewart agreeing that 9/11 first responders should be treated with respect. That's a really, really low bar, but something to appreciate. Unfortunately, in congress they aren't coming together on it. And the ones who oppose are, as usual, Republicans.
Trump can take golf trips every other day and there's apparently so much money that he just gave the richest among us a 'bigly' tax break but somehow there's just never enough money for things like health care. No that would be a crazy entitlement
C G take a page from the guys fighting for this: it's both sides. Making it about one specific political party will only cause a bunch of fighting & take attention away from making sure they never have to make sure this bill has to be renewed.
In most instances, government run institutions are more expensive and there is less motivation for innovation. Part of the reason that countries like my own can have the luxury of universal healthcare is because we are riding the waves of medical research done primarily in the US. However you are 100% correct that Trump golfs too much and is highly flawed.
Life from the Loamly, you do realize that the very thing you are using right now to communicate with the rest of the world (the INTERNET) was first invented by the US government right? We developed the TCP/IP protocol for the military which is the backbone of the entire internet. So that ONE invention from our government has literally changed the entire world. So please, tell me more about how our government isn't innovative... and do it without using the internet! LOL ;)
God bless Jon Stewart. This is one of the only things he comes back out of retirement to talk about, the 9/11 first responders bills. You can tell he just cares with every fiber of his being. Good man.
And government-run healthcare...the government can't even get this bill straight yet you want them to have more control...you are ridiculously ignorant
If you are ANY politician who is standing in the way of caring for those who put themselves in harm's way to rescue the wounded and to recover the dead, then you should IMMEDIATELY resign from office because you don't DESERVE to represent us!!!
Keep in mind, the old owner of Fox News died. So he could get away with this. Although, it would be funny to see Shep get a show on Comedy Central xD I remember his reactions to the Solar Eclipse. Just like a little kid, he was.
Just wanted to drop in and say this is one of the best segments I've seen of any news channel and also one of the best comment sections I've seen in a while. It's great to see people uniting to fight for a cause. The battle in the US is not between democrats and republicans, it's between the people who want the country to be divided and those you don't.
I agree with keeping this in place to compensate these people for their cancers and 911 related illnesses. We should do the same for our soldiers who have been in harms way as well. Including those who are stationed all over thw world; including in Japan and other countries as well, no matter the time of their service. All I can say is, "Work for soldiers as well and Vets of war whether first responders or military"!!!!!!!!
I love the US. Great people and a beautiful country, but there are reasons why I could never live there. I'm so glad that my country has public health care. If my country hadn't invested in my health, I wouldn't be able to live the life I live now and to work. It feels good that I am able to work, pay taxes, and give something back to the community. I have the impression that America fought so long against communism that opponents of ideas such as public health care just have to say "socialism" or "class warfare" and the discussion is suddenly over.
As a conservative, I always had respect for Jon. Preventative measures are much cheaper. Get the proper funding for all these people ASAP. Trump's administration and congress must act ASAP. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.
Broke my heart when he got emotional at the end. Their suffering is so raw and so real still and yet we recharge their suffering agaiin and again with such heartless acts and inaction. Goodness. What kind of monsters of a Congress would deny these heros their right to care after all they have done. Breaks my heart. Please vote.
I am a Mexican Republican, If those republican representatives deny or attach something to this bill. Put them on blast! If the Dems do the same, put those reps on blast
+Montgomery Bojangles don't help them. Single Payer Healthcare would be cheaper and save a lot of lives in the US this means more money for killing civilian and even worse more US citizens who are alive. They should do what Fox news reported and ditch all medicine and just believe in Jesus for "Eternal Healthcare" (that was an actual segment on fox news with that dipshit from duck dynasties).
Any elected official on any level opposing the funding for these men and women, who were lied to by their own government about the risks of their sacrifices, deserves to lose their job now. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.
If this country can spend 77 Million Dollars to finance the president‘s golf trips to his OWN resorts, helping 9/11 victims should not be that big of a problem.
The thumbs down on this should be ashamed, I'm not a US citizen or resident but these folks risked there lives to help others after a catastrophe. I don't care why that happened, the reason for it or any other political bull. I want to believe that if I or the people I love were in trouble people would have the courage to help me. And then if they were suffering for that courage and help that I would have the courage to help them. In this case provide these people the health care and support they deserve, they risked their lives and health for others, I mean come on. This should be simple.
I am all for universal healthcare however, you are incorrect. They said at the beginning that those who didn't register could still get basic healthcare. The other compendium is to cover the costs associated with being sick from 9/11 illnesses such as missing work or costs for counselling.
Americans need to start having an honest conversation about their defense budget. An estimated 150B of our 700B yearly military budget goes towards maintaining our 800 bases overseas, and as far as defense & security goes, that is where we get the most bang for our buck. We have better range, striking speed, & response time for those bases. What a lot of Americans already know, is that yes, because of massive investment into our military, it made sense that we'd turn it into a staple business. What a lot of Americans don't know about that, is that it is almost a form of welfare. When legislature gets approved to produce and buy 20,000 more missiles that the DoD never requested, that is job welfare for the laborers who earn a middle-class wage and help keep the economy going. Republicans and "Conservatives" are all for welfare, they just don't tell you how. You can at least partly rationalize this kind of welfare as a conservative if you consider maintaining the "skill sets" of manufacturing laborers important to national security. In the event we do find ourselves in a massive global conflict, you'd rather have those skills readily available rather than find they've moved on to other jobs.
We're in a predicament, I don't like the fact that we've turn bloodshed into a business, but how do we back out of something we've invested so heavily in without crippling our economy and global influence?
Napoleon inRags Right. Let's see if we have the courage and the wisdom to reimburse the first responders by garnishing the property of the people who are denying them funding. Vote in November 6 for people who endorse this cause.
The fact they tried to smear Jon's work on this bill and suppport was ridiculous. Congressman straight up lied to the camera about the bill to try and stuff it. Bill had no riders or attachments, straight assistance for those affected and thats it. Dont care what the political opinions' are on Jon, anyone who supports these people as much as him is a hero in my book.
Thank You Jon Stewart for standing up for these guys and BEING THE VOICE for the first responders and the people supporting them, we need more brave souls like YOU! I hope and pray MORE celebrity and well known voices come forward for us, many of us have been left in the dark and so many, TOO MANY lives have been lost over this terrorist attack that was enabled and allowed by our own government. We must, and we will, be holding them ALL accountable for their crimes very soon.
Shep Smith is the only real journalist on Fox (aside from Chris Wallace). Some issues are non-partisan in their nature and should remain as such. Great job!
I can't believe the majority of comments below are highlighting political leanings instead of the topic at hand. I almost got sucked in to the conversation but did my best to not state anything left or right. The government as a whole needs to manage this issue and manage it well. That is all that matters.
people say never forget but the problem is we have already forgotten those of whom served on 9/11 and not giving them the proper treatment they deserve.
Money. A lot of people got rich off that "war on terrorism" scheme. A lot of rich people got rich and a lot of poorer people with good hearts and good intentions got dead.
Too bad to hear you dont like real people that actually give a shit about truth and empathy for other people. Obviously something you dont since you went out of your way to state that right off the bat. And since your hat is off please shove it up your ass.
Jesus the man is saying he agrees with the message from Shep and John and you have to rip him apart for it. Not everything is an us vs them agenda. We're all Americans.

If first responders, now suffering, are not supported properly, they'll be running away if anything this horrible ever happens again, instead of running to the rescue.
Thanks to Saudi Arabia these responders suffer and let's not forget the thousands killed and yet these same scrum get the red carpet treatment. America and Trump should stop this absurd relationship.

spick625 Instead of flinging shit around, how about getting involved. Have you written to Congress or gotten involved in fundraising, to raise consciousness?
Shep is awesome. I think he should create a new show called "What we agree on" where he sits with left and right voices and discusses the things we all agree on when it comes to actual laws, bills, and policy. That's the point of our government, we only put into law what a clear majority agrees on. Give Shep a Pulitzer! This is the highest caliber of journalism and should be recognized.
