The time in America where a liberal and conservative could sit down and actually enjoy each other. Ah, I miss that.

I was ready to disagree with you, but you're kind of correct about that. We have gotten way too extremely partisan, these days.

As have the two gentlemen in this video, no?
@TimeCodeMechanics
@TimeCodeMechanics 8 лет назад
FoodLiquorCool I think these two could have this conversation today. Jon Stewart frequently debated Bill O'Reilly and still seems to be more even tempered than many liberals today in my opinion. I could say the same for Cobert.

TimeCode Mechanics Stewart yes, Colbert no. Colbert is very vindictive and is very divisive. Even conservatives can laugh at/with Stewart a bit.

You still can. But you can't put the "radical" versions of those two together and hope for dialog. Instead it's two people talking at each other with zero grou d of flexibility.

It's so great when two comedians play off each other, intelligent and funny as hell.

This was a great discussion between two bright, likable guys. No one is being nasty or mean spirited, just kicking around the football of religion. It's actually a relief to hear Miller, an unashamed conservative, not taking the side of religious fanatacism. I can be a conservative without having to believe in a talking snake.

Jon Stewart is in a very lucrative position. He has a news program which can influence a large swath of the population but can always fall back on the comedy crutch if controversy pops up. There is a reason why Obama went on his show.

Stewert does a great job getting his point across. I always loved his standup, a truly unique voice instead of the 6 gazillion carbon copy comics out there.

I like how they are polar opposites but still are friends. One is Jewish, the other Catholic, one's liberal and the other (now) conservative, but they are clearly friends. That is the real message out of all this.

Hey, can you post the full episodes of Dennis Miller Live? I was much too young to understand how significant these shows were at the time or how to record them like you did...
@orenjiotoku
@orenjiotoku 14 лет назад
Yes, just a comedian. He draws attention from actual news shows, because they either side with his point of view-and highlight him, find one of his satirical jokes humorous, or call him out on being wrong about the facts his "jokes" are based on. AND because a lot of young people, like for example in this forum, actually believe Stewart to be an actual journalist. ....I wonder if they also think George Clooney is an ER doctor? Or William Shatner a lawyer?

Miller is going to be in the next season of VH1 Where Are They Now? The only reason this clip on youtube is still relevant is because of Jon Stewart, who is by far a funnier entertainer.

They are both very bright people who now happen to be on opposite sides. The thing is a) you can't be that witty and have your brain work that fast without being bright; and b) it's okey that different people have different opinions. That happens when you don't live in North Korea. I did like them then and I like them both now.

i liked dennis back in 90's and even 80's when he wasn't political, he just made fun of all politicans. Not showing he was a conservative, but a commentator ripping on them all.

Non-American as I am, I hadn't heard of Dennis Miller before. This guy, along with Michael Shermer, are the only Republicans I have found reasonable and intelligent in a discussion. They might disagree with their opponents, but they can see things from other people's perspective. (Just as I wish my fellow anarchist and socialist friends here in Europe would be able to...)

Aye, thats a good point. I think Harry Blackmun had it right. Abortion should be freely available during the first trimester and the second trimester in the most severe of cases. At know point though should the state make such a monumental decision for someone.

I think 9/11 made him go moderately insane. I can remember excitedly tuning in to his show so I could get my weekly update on his progression into madness, which arguably made the show better despite the steep decline of actual funnies. Dennis Miller Live ran from 1994-2002.

Although I agree with the oil comment Im not going to hate america just because its america....by the same token Im not going to blindly love america just because I live here (which is what Conservatives think we all should do) A wise man once said: "the two most dangerous ideas mankind clings to are blind faith and blind patriotism." I may have gotten the quote wrong but you get the point =P

For some reason? If we don't stick up for the absolutely defenseless, no one will. There will be no reason for any of us to feel safe. I understand all the arguments for "choice". I've probably come up with a few back in the day. But thought just for the sake of thought, without humility or reverence for life is dangerous.
@Agutrot12

Why are we hating on either of these people? They have different political views than you. They're both smart. They both considered EACH SIDE of a particular issue before drawing their conclusions (something 95% of the population has NEVER done). Perhaps most importantly, they discuss these views calmly, thoughtfully, and respectfully. Learn something.

@XXXoBradyoXXX The problem for me with Maher is that he said one thing under one administration and when that administration left and the policies didn't change, he did. He's acting like one election solves the problem. Maher and Dennis Miller agreed with each other in 2002 on most things, but I'm sure they'd never admit that now. Back then it was cool to be the independent libertarian. Now Maher is the hero for cozying up to the DNC and Dennis Miller is hammered by the media for being on Fox.

I love Stewart's point: the world was always crazy; we just know about it now. Miller's response was to suspend his supposed intellect and go nuts. Stewart kept it together by holding onto his sense of humor and his ability to engage in critical thinking.

Yes, I'm for adult abortion. If a person can not respect the life of an unborn child, then they have no respect for life or they would have used protection. So, I agree that both contributors to the problem should be terminated. That means both the male who contributed the sperm and the female who contributed the egg.

I do know that people who like these two very intelligent comedians are probably pretty intelligent themselves. And it's the intelligent people who have looked beyond the official governmental bullshit story. Idiots accept what is told to them even when the facts contradict the story. And some people are trusting and believe it also not wanting to be cynical. They just want to get along and get on with their lives. It's hard to defend freedom. It takes effort and guts and a big mouth.

Fine I'll qualify "most people". Most is the educated people throughout Europe, Canada. This is why America is so disrespected in those places. Most is also the people in America according to polls taken here 61% of Americans have at least an understanding that there was foreknowledge or forewarning that was ignored. Sorry if podunk Wal-Mart shoppers in your town haven't gottten the news. You should ask New Yorkers how they feel. They'll tell you between coughs if they can catch their breath.

Well if English is your second language, that's understandable, but I doubt that's true because foreigners who learn English usually understand syntax and grammar better than native speakers. I was at the University for 9 years, and I speak 2 languages. My research on 9/11 has been in depth for 2 and a half years. Do you want to debate points or put me down? Good Luck with both.

LOL--- "...how could one's position...change?" Open mindedness. Isn't that what libbies love to profess? Rick Santorum is certainly not a disaster. He's taken responsibility with and for his life and the choices he's made. He takes care of his family and that's no small thing in this culture that libs have created. You're probably very young, and that's great. Just have respect for the fact that you'll continue to learn and be willing to lose your pedantry.

@RebelThoughts Maher's problem is that religion is the only thing he's consistent about. When it was cool to be a bad boy libertarian, he was that. When it was cool to bash the GOP, he did that and a lot of people agreed with him and he got a big audience. Now it's cool to be with Obama, so he's doing that and he's retaining that same audience for different reasons. So is it about the policies, or the facts or is it about keeping the audience?
