If you want to learn how to have a political discussion, look at Jon Stewart. Calm, unapologetic, open minded and passionate. Not to mention he is brilliant and hilarious. Even bill likes him! You can tell
Miss Liv Bill destroyed him in every interview they did together. He always had him on because he was an easy target for Bill. O Reilly was able to bounce him like a ball. O Reilly was far more intelligent, far sharper, more politically astute, and far more influential. Stewart could only dream of making the kind of impact that Bill did. O Reilly was a voice of reason and sanity in this mad world. Stewart would just crack a joke whereas Bill presented the facts and was able to unwrap them in a way Stewart could only dream of. You left Bill's show really in deep thought and truly aware of what was going on in the world. Bill didn't wrap up the facts and put a little comedy bow on them. He presented the news and led by example to show you how to cut through the noise. Jon Stewart was for 10 yr olds. Bill was for grown ups.
I think that they both have great chemistry and bounce off one another naturally. They are such polar opposites that they actually have a lot in common.
@Diogenes TheDog Yeah dawg, Andrew Yang actually brings up now Nixon wanted UBI. We only didn't get it back in those times because the dems in the Senate wanted more cash for the UBI to work. Still surprises me to this day, lol.
@@DONVITO223 Uh, no - that seems 100% clear it's in the actual audio track - and if you watch at the very end you'll hear him laugh and Jon turns to salute/look at him. While I can't understand _anyone_ liking O'Riley it doesn't matter where your politics lie - Stewart is just fucking funny.
He could have said "For the same reason that Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Rosie O'Donnell, and any other smart, TV-savvy woman doesn't like you!" and he'd STILL be on target! Jon's THE MAN!
@Logan If you've accomplished anything near what either of those ladies have, then I might take your statement seriously. Regarding Rosie, that's what GOOGLE and IMDB are for!
Not in this clip, but he really did see politics spreading into every facet of entertainment. He always was against the 24 hour news cycle and look where we are now, politics on tmz and the nba
He is extremely observant which is also noticeable during his "Crossfire" appearance on CNN where he called the hosts "hacks" who were destroying the country, and when he debated Chris Wallace about partisanship in media. The version of Wallace back then was very different from what you see today, and he was very much trying to take down Stewart while defending Fox News and attacking the other networks.
I could watch these two all day. They’re both baiting each other, and neither is taking the bait. They used to slam each other on their own shows, but it was always good to see them rip each other when they were together. They always did it with smiles on their faces.
You can tell that they are decent buds at the end of the day. May not agree on all their values but the rhetoric they use and all the back and forth just reminds me of me and my friends haha
Jon Stewart's tactfulness is unrelenting. He didn't bring up Bill's ghostwriter(s) (I don't know if it's multiple or mainly just one) as Bill was mocking him because Jon collaborated with others on the book.
easily done if you are granted the unique privilege of being allowed to actually get a whole sentence out without being interrupted or having your microphone cut.. the genius thus rests in being able to tame o'reilly in that way...
It depends. If you're one of O' Reilly's folks, you'd think that Jon was the one who got destroyed. But if you're a homo sapien with an IQ above 70, then yes, O'Reilly & Fox News got their ass kicked by Jon every single time.
@@JavierPerez-cx4jw He was saying that the respect O'Reilly had for Stewart allowed Jon to have a more talking time to express his thoughts on the questions compared to other guests, which is a huge privilege for a guest to have on Fox News.
I loved the part with the mirror. O'Reilly and his ilk pretending to "folksy" when they earn millions every year. And no, I don't need to have a beer with my President. I'd rather he spent his time on making sound decisions for the country.
yeah, hes the president.. how many fucking presidents are there. In reality Bill O'Reilly is.. just that, Bill. Him tryna get down-to-earth with Bill the plumber when he's never worried about paying for ANY ESSENTIALS (Gas, rent, food, debts) in fact hes one of the select in the world in a select few professions, where hes PAID TO BE WRONG (or he can make many many mistakes, not the same for a small time electrician or a gas attendee)
"you're a very bright man, you went to Harvard, you're an elite"!!! ORielly misses it completely. See the first half of this interview! Stewart is brilliant with bringing the 'elite' comment back
For all of their claims about libs being "triggered" and needing a "safe space," watch a Trumpster explode when you tell them they're being emotional. "Elite" works in much the same way, especially when people like Ted Cruz uses it after saying that didn't like working with people who went to one of the, swear to God, "lesser Ivys".
Yeah I laughed, Bill seemed like he had an idea for a point and wanted to rush to get it out, so ignored what Jon was saying to avoid getting sidetracked
O'Reily's overconfidence in himself shows how out of touch he is, like a guy who assumes that prevailing attitudes from 1953 are still the norm, or that his popularity in high school still holds sway 40 years later.
Lol you ever seen the 21 Jump Street remake when Channing Tatum goes back to high school and makes a total dumbass out of himself cause when he was in high school it was cool to be like that? That's Mr. O'Reilly, himself lol
If you had millions of people specifically watching YOUR show to hear YOUR opinions and ideas, im quite sure you would understand the confidence that comes with your job. Oh and having a net worth of $100 million and another several million people who buy your books also gives you some confidence. “his Popularity in high school still holds sway” - Actually his popularity is several million times higher than whatever it could have been in high school lol
@@Kizdo69 Confidence is a positive thing -- I mentioned his _overconfidence_ . When that happens you start to disregard outside viewpoints because you are convinced that your way can only be correct. The high school reference was to compare it to O'Reilly's obliviousness to the forward progress and changing attitudes that occur in a society, leaving him behind.
@@Kizdo69 he’s also been swallowed into obscurity by more even more zealous and vocal pundits than himself, just as Stewart predicted. Wealth is not an objective measure of your legacy.
I love the conversation that these two are having. They can throw so much shade at each other without losing their shit over the substance of what they are saying to each other. I really need to develop myself into someone that can behave like this.
ask an underling for sexual favors then give her/or him you know free country, 10 million to not talk about it and resign from your company, thats one way you can behave like bill anyway
True. But note that O'Reilly is quite intelligent, it's just that a top comedian like Stewart "shows" better than almost anybody in a comedic banter battle.
It's things like this that make me miss Jon Stewart. He was funny but also managed to be insightful at the same time. And he always came out on top during these things with Billo.
love how in all of these interviews the 1 cameraman is always heard laughing out loud to Jon's jokes. I think Bill and Jon had fun with these "interview clashes" lol
I like that Stewart takes a second to think of a response and O'Reilly yells "ah-ha!" Like taking a second to think is admission of total defeat. This is why the new long form conversations are winning out.
@ Safeen. Thanks Safeen even though this comment 2 years old. I just seen vid now and was interested. But don’t know if i had the willpower to go googling it. Saved me the trouble.
I love the thought of Bill O’Reilly squirming every time Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch told him he has to have Jon Stewart on his show because it draws numbers.
But if O'Reilly was sitting with a liberal version of himself, it would have been a shouting match. Stewart's calm, humor and intelligence helps keep this reasonably civil.
It hasn't really changed much, dems are just getting tired of Republican anti-intellectualism and have stopped humoring them. Bigotry isn't acceptable just because Republicans call it an opinion or world view, and dems have stopped letting that one slide. The right wing of america has become radicalized.
I can’t say I miss it at all. It’s entertaining but it’s not a particularly productive conversation where people’s ideologies are challenged and their minds are opened to new perspectives.
My favorite is Bill completely missing the metaphor, "you said I was like the voice of reason in a fat camp." You can see Jon just internally sighing to himself, "...skinniest kid at fat camp."
2:26 is so underrated lmao “So she doesn’t wanna talk politics with somebody like me, she’d rather talk nonsense with somebody like you” “Now you’re understanding daytime television, well done sir”
This is awesome!! I always enjoyed seeing Jon Stewart toying with Bill O'Reilly!!! These two Need to reunite and do more of these joint appearances!!!!
