Jonah Moyo is the first Zimbabwean King of Sungura who reigned from 1980 to 86 and left the throne to John Chibadura who reigned from 1987 to mid 1991. Leonard Dembo took over from late 1991 to 1996 when he passed on. Simon Chimbetu then took the reigns as King of Sungura from 1997 to 2002 when the current King of Sungura Aleck Macheso took over. A lot of people forget Jonah Moyo when talking of Sungura greats, but the reality is that he is the first undisputed King of Sungura and his reign covered the most competitive period in the history of Sungura music. Hence, it is not a fluke that he is the first Sungura musician to buy a house in the low density surburbs. He is also the first Sungura musician to sell more than 100 000 copies of a single album, and in the 80s, that was a major feat. This guy helped immensely to shape Sungura music as we know it today. I hope the first King of Sungura will be honoured one day whilst he is still alive.
