The solo show for Jonas Gerard was in our gallery at Artizen Fine Arts, and featured a live painting performance by the artist himself. The following footage was shot for his opening.
Just met Jonas two days ago and purchased one of his "Love" paintings. He spent over an hour of his time walking us around his studio and spreading his good cheer. A warm wonderful man, this video says it all!
...[continued]...Their seeming chaos vibrates with endless nuances! They are primal, sensate, emotive - complete as is, and release us from experiencing art through limitative dogmatic academics. Viewing art such as this makes the world fall away and brings us smack dab into the timelessness of "NOW".
Jonas Gerard Is A One Of A Kind Genius! His Art Possesses A Spirit Of Joy And Happiness. His Zest For Life, His Love For Art, His Kindness And Gentle Spirit, His Love For People Inspire Me! BRAVO JONAS!
However it is arrived at, the visual stimulation and vibrant colour of Jonas Gerard's painting is stunning. I love it and would happily hang it on my wall to look at it over and over again.
I have never heard of this artist before, and I've only recently gotten into painting myself, but I LOVE the colors he uses. It seems like he really lets go of himself and for someone just to let their instincts take over and come up with something as harmonious as this is quite amazing. I love it! It seems like he his painting his own little world that he's bopping around in. I really really like it. I wish I lived there...
If you have at least an ounce of imagination you'll see the worlds he creates on the canvas. Its not just a bunch of blobs of paint. The harmony and balance of colors...beautiful.
For the ones who are theorizing about this work: That paint represents the music on the background, the combination of the magenta exploting with the greens tinted with yellow shots. It look just beautifull, this is not a matter of the theory of color and if you should follow the scribbles or not! This is not a coloring book were you fill the blank spaces & not get out of the line!is about the results and the inspiration they come from, in this case, from salsa music!Well done Gerard my respects!
A couple of years ago I wrote a little ditty: "Colours are living entities - as much as the wind, or flowers, or you and me, Like fragrances, like music, colours can pierce the heart, expose the soul and uplift the spirit, Such is the magical power of colour." --Lynne Gerard The art of Jonas Gerard (which I only discovered today) is living proof of "the magical power of colour". What a beautiful, moving video to watch on a cold Winter's day!
Abstract painting is NOT easy as some of you seem to think. Jonas is a fabulous artist. You need to have an understanding of colour, shape, design - not just a matter of slapping paint on. Love your work, Jonas !!
I love your use or colors! You are definitely an out of the box kind of artist and that inspires me to keep painting what drives me. So keep creating out of who you are because it's fueling who I am.
He uses Golden Acrylic paint? Soft body or Hard body paint. He doesn't seem to apply gesso to the entire piece, just in certain spots. I love his art. Mesmerizing, what a way to start a day off.
you probably dont care but does anyone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot the account password. I would love any tricks you can offer me!
@Daxton Harrison thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
fantastico colega!!! beth sales! artista plastica brasileira que mora em noruega! adorei lindas cores, e muinto boa dinamica de trabalho e boa musica, eu tambem pinto so com musica! gratulera!
@ArtbyNubia AMEN!! by the way, I have visited your website and love your work!! I love the intuitive creativity of children, and it is the rare artist who can truly create like a child. I have decided recently that the next time someone says to me (in relation to my paintings) "my child could do that" my reply will be "thank you, thank you, thank you!!"
Sharon Courtney
"Of all the arts, abstract painting is the most difficult. It demands that you know how to draw well, that you have a heightened sensitivity for composition and for colours, and that you be a true poet. This last is essential." -- Wassily Kandinsky.
Seriously guys.. don't bother commenting if you are just going to leave a negative remark. This guy is much more brilliant and creative than most of you anyway..
in my opinion it doesn't matter how much skill is involved in the making of paintings its the energy put into them and the thought that goes into them. I appreciate skill but on the same note if its visually appealing, what ever the subject may be it can be just as good as a painting that has lots of talent behind it. As for the video I'm loving both the paintings and now I'm going to look for more.. adios
It is interesting reading the comments. Abstract art is not for everyone, but has it's own structure. Just look at abstract in nature - like oil spills in puddles. Jonas Gerard's art is exceptionally balanced, free, and textural. Some will not see that.
@drowningcreek Agreed. When I first starting doing abstract art I actually found it more difficult than when I was doing portraits. It's hard to let go of all the feelings stopping you from 'going outside the circle' regarding painting. I thought it would be simple but it's taken me a long time to find my artistic skill with abstract.
When I first saw the video I thought here is a guy that is going to scrawl over the canvas and call it art. But further viewing took me from pessimistic to in awe in about 3 minutes flat. He makes it look so easy, I wish I could blend color as well as he does.
Really great idea to have live painting at a show. I know a friend of mine did that and had literally 100s come to the show to see him paint. I like the style of Jonas, very fast paced and bold in colors. Thanks for sharing!
WOW I am an Artist and I paint figurative, I want freedom and more expression, I have been inspired (despite what my art tutors told me years ago) to just let go and get rid of all of that inner emotions onto the canvas,Love it, this man is good.
