@@juliawoody6589 No people did. But, that little Netflix series doesn't compare to the original. And Jonathan Crombie will always be the ONLY Gilbert Blythe. Just like Megan Follows is the only Anne.
I love Anne Of Green Gables, first time I watched it I was sixteen, I just turned 50, Jonathan to me will always be Gilbert, may he rest in peace along with Richard and Colleen, and the other cast members who passed away.
Colleen played Swannie O'Teale in the _Christy_ TV series (1994-95), which is available to watch here on RU-vid-also she played a homeless woman in the movie, _Fluke_ . While they weren't major characters in either of the movies/series, I think both roles help demonstrate her range as an actress.
Rest in Heaven, Jonathan Crombie, Jackie Burroughs (Hetty King), and Patricia Hamilton (Rachel Lynde). You 3 were some of the finest actors I’ve ever seen on my TV! Thank you for these memorable characters you’ve left behind.
My husband and I watched this over and over again. We loved it My husband went to Heaven in January 2021 . I can't hardly watch it again it was our Love story 😭😭
it's interesting here how they continued the story with gilbert and anne already married with children and then when the third movie actually came out, they went so far away from the original plot, i would have liked to see this story from the original anne of green gables vs. the one they changed it with.
But hey thats what the other adaptations are for! I am glad we got the unrelated third movie, we got to see our beloveds again almost in an alternate universe!
"The Continuing Story" was hamstrung by several elements. Ideally Sullivan *should* have adapted "Rilla of Ingleside" (the last of the official Anne books), but by that time he had lost his rights to the original Montgomery stories, and had to craft an entirely different story. Megan Follows has speculated that "The Continuing Story" might have initially been aimed to cap off the "Road to Avonlea" TV series, but we'll probably never know.
I watched the third movie and I do own it but have very little interest in ever watching it again. I like to pretend the third movie is a decent fan fiction and Anne and Gilbert followed a story line similar to the books.
I’ve never seen Johnathan Crombie act in any other show, but since binging on Anne Of Green Gables ,I’ve seen him perform in many other plays television shows etc. he really was a fine actor, rip dear man rip.
@@edgelennox4035 really and how do you know this how does stress kill someone I’m a retired nurse,so explain how stress kills someone, and you’re wrong google his name and you’ll see for yourself ,but first tell me how stress kills someone….I’m waiting
@@kathleentyson6727 If you're really a retired nurse, you would know how stress kills.... AND that it DOES kill. High blood pressure, heart attack and stroke, weakened immune system, also causes chronic illnesses to be worsened..... AND yes, brain bleeds. My step father died from a stress induced brain bleed, so it does happen. I ALSO have medical experience, so I have to wonder if you're really a retired nurse. And if you were, were you actually a very good one, not even knowing the multiple ways that ongoing stress can kill a person. 🙄
that is a treasure, i am extremely happy to see a little more of Jonathan as Gilbert and the “different story” for this Anne and Gil, thank you so much 💘
Remember that even the first film and the second condensed timelines and characters from the books. As good as the first film was, and the actors, it did not stay strictly close to the books. I agree with you, they should have aligned with L.M. Montgomery's Anne series more stringently. There was plenty of opportunity for more films if they had.
In 3rd movie Marilla died before they were married and Green Gables was abandoned. Gil bought it for Anne quickly. Despite being a different show seems writers forget that
Such a warm story. So many life lessons of love, prejudice, patience, acceptance and so much more. I watched the entire 3rd season the past Friday. Anxiously waiting for season 4. Best Anne and Gilbert.
Omg, this! This is what I was looking for. I knew there were series of this time period, that i watched when I was like 10. I had not yet known of Anne of Green Gables then, but they showed this on TV and I loved. I never knew remembered the name of it until I saw this. It's like I found a long lost treasure, that had't faded with all the time passed...
@@cordelianoelle3644 @Cordelia Noelle Yes, you're right. Colleen Dewhurst did appear in the episode because production pieced together scenes that they had already filmed of her. But sadly, they were unaware that she was terminally ill and she died at only 67 while on hiatus from the previous season. I'm sure filming that episode was very hard for the cast and crew. Anne would have loved to have had your name ❤
My mother and I were a real life Anne and Marilla. My mother died last year. It was very shocking for me but I know she is in a better place and will be forever.
@@cocoaorange1 he was in my city performing in a play back in the mid 2000's.. However, I missed it by a couple of days so I never got to chat with him like I would have liked..
Side note: It’s amazing to see how Hettie King develops into an amazing person since Sarah Stanley and Olivia began being the iron that sharpens iron in her life. Who would have seen her do this for someone she used to hate and see an an enemy!!! I love the character growth in this series.
I wish they would of done a double disc after Anne of Avonlea of Anne and Gilbert together with their happy ending and kids. The continuing story was disappointing. I was glad they had all the same actors since jonathan Crombie and Megan follows are my favorite. But i wanted a longer story and more romance. I’ve never watched this episode though
It’s funny the 3rd movie “the continuing story” when Anne and Gilbert get married is shot a few years after Road to Avonlea, so the actor is older. But here he says he is already married and has children. Anne is also by Marilla’s side when she dies
AndWhatIsThisNow but why would Anne and gills sons go to war they would not have been born or old enough to go to ww1 but to ww2 yes as the characters are set in 1914 onwards when Matthew dies it’s around 1918
linda frank Anne arrives at green gables in 1876 according to the books. So yes her children aka her oldest son is old enough to go to war 1 in 1914. Anne at this point is 49 years old. It makes sense. Matthew dies in 1886. 10 years after Anne arrives at Green Gables.
@JONES I actually agree that the other books aren't all that good, mainly because Anne has no character arc any longer. It was like Montgomery did all her character development in the first book. Later she has some adventures, and she has to find out what kind of man to choose, but more and more the books even stop being about Anne, and start being about people she meet, friends and family (lastly, of course, Rilla, her daughter). At first I was upset that the miniseries didn't follow the books (Kingsport Ladies College and all that), but then I could understand why. I've never seen "The Continuing Story" about Anne and Gilbert, though. Sounds like that one is too far from canon.
@@AndWhatIsThisNow different continuities but what makes it so jarring is that both were written produced and directed by the same person. The Avonlea version of Gil and Anne was better than Anne of G III. I don't even consider the 3rd Anne of G cannon. It is so off...waited 5 years for each other yet they're clearly in their 40s in the movie. lol .
This is a show or series called "Road to Avonlea" produced by the director Kevin Sullivan who also produced and directed Anne of Green Gables. This series was done after the first two movies of AOGG. However, the series does not have Megan Follows or Jonathan Crombie yet, he pops up a few times.
This was in the show "Road to Avonlea". In this show it was already established that Gil and Anne were already married with children. But when the continuing story came out, this was no longer canon.
We watched Road to Avonlea faithfully, but somehow never saw this episode. Since we live in Michigan, we receive the CBC and watched the whole series. I can't think how and why we missed it.
The Scene where Mrs Lynd Shouts Gilbert and runs up to him and hugs him hits harder now as Both Jonathan Crombie and Patrica Hamilton have since passed away I can only imagine this is how they Reunited Patrica sees Jonathan In Avonlea Heaven and runs up to him and hugs him 😭
No, it isn't. Marilla does not die in the books until "Rilla of Ingleside," and by then, Davy is a grown man who it's assumed has taken over Green Gables with his wife. Reference is made to this in "Anne of Ingleside" when Anne comes home for a brief visit after Gilbert's father passes away, and Rachel mentions Davy's wife "Millie" and Millie's pies. Marilla tells Anne that Davy has expressed interest in taking over the farmland which was rented to Mr. Barry (Diana's father) prior. Don't go by the movies, or this series -- go by the books, and it will become clear to you how muddled Sullivan made the screenplays away from the various books' series. They are all changed, even "Emily of New Moon" and "Jane of Lantern Hill" - Sullivan apparently couldn't or wouldn't stick to the original storylines.

I almost prefer Anne not being able to come with Gilbert. He gives a peek into their lives, married, with children, him practicing as a doctor. And even with scarlet fever, she probably was bull headed enough to try and drag herself to get in the carriage and drive herself there. And even at his insistence that she stay home and him too, to help take care of her but still threatening Gilbert with death and dismemberment if he didn't go.
It really upset me that Megan follows didn’t Make an appearance either I mean it’s her show to begin with....I mean just having Gilbert making a cameo doesn’t really cut it😳🥺
I don't know the reason why Megan Follows did not even make a one-time appearance on the TV series. Perhaps it was Kevin Sullivan's decision... to have us (the viewer) see how life on Avonlea was like when Anne is not there. People still tuned in.
It’s not a bad storyline. They should’ve had a similar story with Anne and Gil getting the house back instead of having Gil serve in WW1 and Anne chasing after him in the continuing story. Perhaps Megan had other commitments when this was made.
@@samanthamartyn619 Very likely. There's also the issue of Megan striving to avoid the "typecasting" problem. Her being "Anne" did really negatively affect her ability to land other roles, because everyone thought of her as "Anne" and nothing else. One can hardly blame her for wanting to move on from the character.
Gazebotv has ALL the Road to Avonlea series episodes and ALL the Anne of Green Gables movies; but, I think this is the only Avonlea episode that Jonathan Crombley was in. I may be wrong about that.
I don't get this. I saw the 3 Anne of Green Gables TV shows when the first came out on PBS. I think the 2nd series takes place around 1903-7?, and the 3rd one (which was terrible)- takes place during WWI and end in 1918. So when does this Avonela take place (the women have 1890 hair dos)?
The second series is supposed to take place 1 - 2 years after the first. Series 2 is a combination of "Anne of avonlea", "Anne of the island" and "Anne of windy poplars" Road to Avonlea takes place during the years they had the kids. Dont count the 3rd as anything. It disregards all the books and Road to Avonlea and just makes a complete mess of the timelines.
