You make your lip trills sound so effortless, dude I have literally stressed out so much over trying to get these lip trills down but they are so freaking hard 😭
Take it from a guy that took FOREVER to figure this out. There are so many approaches. The main thing that I have seen is pay attention to your tongue movement, (should be relaxed and arching for the higher partial. Same for jaw. It should be relaxed and allowed (I use allowed as to remind, its not chewing but it should be allowed flexibility and relaxed movement from the tongue arching). Also practicing singing the trills using the syllables of low (AH as in otter), middle (eh as in every and iih as in igloo) and higher (eeh as in evil). I hope this helps. Again i make no claims as to the working for you or even that it is correct. Only to say that it worked for me. Unfortunately I came from a 100% air air air teaching from my first notes. Great! Air control and power is needed, especially for beginners when they try to whisper through the horn, but so is muscle control and relaxation and ultimately manipulating a good embouchure to changing quickly in a relaxed way. That is not 100% air. This is a more advanced concept that usually never gets taught in high school or sometimes even college.
I'm still working on mine, but something that is helping me is changing the vowel shape as I trill, so basically I'm doing Aw-Ee-Aw-Ee-Aw-Ee-Aw-Ee etc etc
@@rickharris8780 thank you so much for the write up! I'm coming from the opposite direction lol- only now at 34 figuring out how much I need to work on air efficiency
Wow thanks for posting the PDF of this. Most videos say "Practice this." and expect you to know what they are talking about. I am not an expert and need all the help I can get!
When you play Arban exercise 15 whilst keeping air moving are you also pushing the air at the same time as articulating similar to when articulating without tongue ?
Yes. The air acts as flowing water; the tongue is like a speedboat bouncing off the water. I know I’m not Mr. Randazzo, but this is what works for me, anyway
