Awesome stories, inspired determination 👍 I spent my 1 yr bday with my dad in Tinker AFB. He came back from Korea in 54 and got polio, spent a yr .5 in hospital at 22yrs old. Paralysed from waist down didnt stop him. Growing up camping going to Disneyland, 2 worlds fairs, expo 67, Alaska and Guatemala all in various station wagons on 2week vacations mom and brother; he basically was the ambassador for disabled folks in many venues. I'm absolutely proud of you guys, rock on👍btw my parents retired to La Paz, Baja for 12 years. He toodled around in a Honda 3 wheeler running cb safety check points for the Baja 5000 in the 70s and 80s.
Unfortunately, I never got to join the Marines (I was denied based on the fact that I have generalized epilepsy) but I always had that crazy sense of humor and told other people it could be so much worse and you guys are a perfect example that you keep the positive attitude. Keep goin strong guys. Just walking past negative people is usually the best. YES Evan, a finite amount of time.
It's insane how much this guys story sounds like mine. Don't worry guy, private (Or state hospitals here in Utah) are pretty similar to VA stuff. I went through a lot of what you're talking about except the legs. I even describe it to people as being opened up like a fish and having my guts rearranged. The worst part about the pain is not being able to stand up straight because the "zipper" down your front that you're talking about tends to shrink, making it shorter than your spine, so you end up perma-bent forward. At least I am.
Evan and Logan, I would do anything if you could help me get in touch with this guest. I live down by Ogden and went through a lot of what he's describing in the past few years. I love to know how he recovered from this stuff. I'm not a veteran, so I don't have any of that support structure or know how to rebuild my body.
