This song was such a huge hit that literally there was a shortage of music cassettes of HUM in market in initial period before the release of the film ... I still remember searching for the cassette in every shop in my town ... 1991..I was in 8th Std. ..Nostalgia ❤️.. today's jio4g generation won't understand how we used to collect 50paisa, 1-2 Rs, from little pocket money to purchase cassette cost 25Rs .. hum 4 dost milkar 4 alag cassettes kharidte the aur ek dusre ke sath share karte the ... Itna jugaad lagakar cassette kharidkar ghar lana aur taperecorder par usko play karna aur fir wo sangeet sunne me jo anand milta tha us khushi aur feelings ko aaj vyakt karne ke liye shabd hi nahi hai... Lovely were those days

This came in 1991 and then Khuda Gawah in 1992 - that was end to an era spanning almost 20 years of super stardom that started with Zanjeer in 1973. Amitabh never really came as a young hero thereafter and The Khan era started - by this time MPK of Salman and QSQT of Amir had come and Dewaana of SRK would come in 1992. This song created an absolute ruckus - a final blow of the horn from the man who carried Bollywood through 1970s and 1980s and got millions including myself hooked to his brilliant style and acting. Amitabh moved into character roles starting with Mohabbatein in 2000 after a brief sabbatical and continues to mesmerises us with his performances.

I was travelling around India in 1991 and this song was played everywhere we went at distortion levels of volume - so joyous, and watching the movie in a beautiful cinema in Jaipur with the most enthusiastic audience I’ve ever known for a film was an experience I’ll never forget! 🤩 India, what a country….❤️ amazing memories.

This song hit us like a sledgehammer around feb 1991, in a month it was exam time and this song was like an earworm, refusing to get out.. the sheer scale, extravagant orchestration, tongue in cheek music arrangement and the opulent mounting. .. it was difficult to believe that this song was created for another film and recycled and used here.. looks like Mukul Anand knew what to do withi this song.. Her character was named jumma to accommodate the song and not the other way around. This song was recorded way before the actual shoot schedules, for a different movie by Ramesh Sippy, ‘Ram Ki Seeta Shyam Ki Geeta’ starring Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi, the film didn't materialise, The song ‘Jumma Chumma’ had been originally created for this film and would have been picturized on Amitabh and Sridevi. With the film now abandoned, the song was later used in Hum. Saroj Khan shares the idea behind the original number: ‘The sequence had Amitabh as a cop catching a pickpocket Sridevi red-handed. When she asks what she can bribe him with, he asks for a chumma.’ In fact a live show in Wembley London was done in 1990 where amitabh Bachchan danced on the song with sridevi.. It had such a big impact that Mukul Anand ensured that this song became the centrepiece of the movie.

I so remember this song ... this song was blasted for MONTHS in every Indian party, wedding etc. This film had so many people standing up outside the theatres clamouring to get in so they can get a seat. I still remember that my father caught me in cinema hall as I gone Cinema in place of my school . It was Amitabh hit comeback to Films in 1991 and I watch this movie twice because of this song only. Now I am 46 year old and my son is 16 year old sharing this incident. He was enjoying that his father also get scolded at his age. Missing that era of 1990s, lovely memories and no technology can replace that excitement of cinema that time.

1992, My elder brother had craze for amithab and this song,He brought VCR and cassett to watch this movie, i was only allowed to watch the movie that if i ll stay in the door and if our father comes i will let them know accordingly, when this song was played my elder brother and cousins start dancing and soon I also joined as I was a kid,meanwhile my father entered the room and he was very angry,Start beating all of us,My uncle also came but out of blue he scolded my father and said that they are young,He taunted my father that when you were young you used to go to Lahore to watch movie,now it is their turn, My uncle died in 2009,my father is too much old now,my brothers and cousin are matured with their children are ready to be married but memories are alived in my heart❤️

Even other songs of this movie were big hits too like the two fantastic romantic songs 'Kaagaz kalam daawat' and 'Sanam mere sanam', picturised on Govinda. This song 'Jumma chumma de de' was a mass rage that time. It was a nationwide hit, during early 90s. Just like 'Tirchi topiwale' song was a nationwide hit during late 80s.

The song was a hit right away.........have always been an avid listener of music. This song was first released on video at the end of the Amitabh documentary "Follow That Star". This documentary released much before the movie and the day i saw the song and its novel picturization and dance, i had told a friend "this song is going to create a craze across india, just watch"........and it just turned true. Later i saw the movie from the Upper Stall in the single theaters existing back then...........i rememer 25 paise, 50 paise and 1 re coins falling on our heads in upper stall on Amitabh's entry in the movie and later on this song. Also on huge public uproar the movie screener had to play this song once more....................Those were the days i sorely miss. Watching movie was a different experience back then.

It was in my 6th class probably in 1995, was watching the movie in DD I guess as there was no cable tv. I am totally engrossed in the movie , was in the middle of this song fully enjoying and you have a POWER CUT and it wasn't restored until after 2-3 hrs. Was really disappointed and was kind of crying. It was only after few years I watched this movie. Really loved this song.

I was just 10 Still remember the public outside theatre. Not even 5 inches ground space of theatre left As soon as this song played only whistles heard in the theatre "HOUSE FULL" In those days, watching HOUSEFULL board outside theatre and u having tickets was like winning war. Golden 90's era.

This was our JAM, we all students went to the Hall to watch this, when this song played, bro, people was dropping their half eaten samosas, Hahahahaha. There's no ticket available easily for first 10 days. Everyone roaming Dadar, kalyaan, bandra, matunga etc everywhere for HUM movie tickets🎟.. HUM movie love from Tamilnadu.. 🥰♥

Cherish 1990s. Hum movie was released. This song was a huge huge hit. But banned on radio by the then govt coz jumma chumma de was considered vulgar then. As a result, demand of audio cassette went high . The song was a big big success. From Puja Pandals to marriage ceremony, the celebrations were incomplete without this song. No mobile, no internet , songs were not played on our fingertips but listening to these hits used to give much more satisfaction. Hit like if u miss that era.

Iconic song. It was banned from being played on the radio for the words it had. Remember this was 1990-91.Still it topped all the music charts. On Cibaca Geet mala, Amin Sayani used to mention that the top song of the week is from the movie 'Hum' but it cannot be played because of the ban.

Fun Fact: The choreographer of this song Chinni Prakash revealed that Amitabh initially did not liked the hook step stating it as vulgar but interestingly Jaya Bachchan insisted it to keep and people till date also remembers the dance steps 😊
