this song is about his parents...his father passed away when he was 12 due to cancer. His mother couldn't handle it and had psychological problems because of it. He found her in cardiac arrest on the couch. less than a year later... a stone thrown into the river... is a Dutch metaphor... it means clearing (problems) blockages.

He lost his home, his safe place to be. He has been homeless a few times, mostly couch surfing at family and friends. Joost found help for Trauma (PTSD) and he likes to share with his fans and audience what he has learned in mental therapy (quote: the corny stuff is mostly true). He had contact facetiming with his therapist during the esc in Malmö. That's why I don't believe he has been agressive, really threathening a camera woman. Also some say he was too vulnerable and not looked after careful enough. I think that's rubbish. He was quite okay until he suddenly got suspended and disqualified. The video was shot at the Dutch island Texel, which is in the Province North Holland, not Friesland. However Joost wrote this song (two poems about losing 1 his father and 2 his mother) in Friesland, where he was born and grew up. His mind is in Friesland at the moment they're shooting the video.

His father past away of cancer Some time after that and his mother died of an heart attack in the next year. She couldn’t cope with all of it, do Joost relationship with his mother was very difficult in the last year before she died. The metafoor ‘i tost a stone in the river’ means: I did somerhing, even of it’s small, but the river never runs the same way. it’s a reflection on life. And the line after that ‘even despite all of the rain’ means: I did that despite all of my sorrow and troubles.

Joost Klein had a holiday with his parents in Florida 2009. That was their last holiday together. His dad was diagnosed with cancer in 2010 and died that year. His mum died a year later. The song is about the memory of that holiday and the loss.
