I'm Welsh but I've never seen a better scrum half than Joost. A big man who had speed, strength, flair and an eye for an opportunity rarely seen. Rest in peace Joost, you will always be my number one number nine. Thanks for the privilege of watching you and God bless you and yours.

As a Bok supporter, without being bias, the best scrum half in Springbok history. In international rugby language, a gifted, gutsy rugby genius. What true athlete? We will never forget Jooste Van Der Westhizen for the fantastic entertainment he delivered.

Love it. These documentaries are great. Giving people rare footage that would otherwise be lost to the ages. I just wish it was more documentary-like and not just highlight after highlight -- maybe with teammates and former opponents giving insight and reflecting on the player's career and personality. Another point I'd like to make is that, in my opinion, rugby back before professionalism was better than it is today -- more captivating. No shoulder pads, no over-muscled gym-rats, no powder-puff tries galore. No advertisements all over the place, and no overblown salaries either. Just grit and tuff, skilled men. Too many matches nowadays too. Years ago the matches were fewer and farther between, and every single one was a spectacle. If a guy got 50 test caps he was practically a god among men. Now, today, 50 caps is nothing. Rugby just isn't the same. I like the old uniforms too.

These highlights don't come close to doing him justice, the try scoring was secondary to everything else Joost did on the pitch, was one of my favourites growing up, that unrelenting competitiveness, man if you could bottle that ........

I'm 5feet 10inches,yet I looked up at him.He had the most admirable of human qualities,courage.What a champion.During him time,there were champion halfbacks but his time is hard to forget because his team was always the winner,the mighty Springboks.RIP Joost,you were a legend.

This almost brings a tear to my eye. Quite possibly the best ever number 9 the Boks have produced and maybe even the best ever scrum-half in world rugby. As they say, the game they play in heaven just got even tougher with Joost now joining that teams ranks. RIP Joost.

Even today 2017 he is in my humble opinion still better than any scrumhalf. Today's scrummies just sucks.

There have been a slew of great scrummies but i Wouldn’t have anyone else as 9 in my best 15 of all time Unstoppable. Could be an extra flank or wing. Heck theres over an HOUR of highlights of just try scoring !

Personally I think Joost was the best scrumhalf in the world considering any scrumhalf from 1980 till when Joost retired from rugby.

Joost was a great bok and athlete....he was the guy we feared and admired for his toughness and tenacity...a real bokie...taken by a horrible disease to early....he is remembered forever by rugby people as one of the best...and those eyes....
