The most important lesson I have learned from Jordan Peterson: If you want individual freedom, you have to take individual responsibility. The more responsibility to accept, the more freedom you will enjoy. It's easy to look externally and try to blame others for our circumstances. The fact is, life isn't fair. And comparing yourself to others is not productive. "Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today." - Jordan Peterson. Thank you for supporting After Skool. Your comments and messages are beyond encouraging. The goal is to make each video better than the one before. Thank you for this. I was thinking my suffering from my abusive spouse was their fault for hitting me, so I was going to leave them.. but now I know it’s all my fault, everything bad is always my fault, just like he always tells me.. and so now I don’t feel bad anymore, by recognizing everything bad in my life is always my fault, I feel in control, so I don’t need to leave him, I just need to stop mouthing off :) thanks JBP :) I need to stop with the “it’s his fault, he could choose not to him me” and switch to “it’s my fault, I chose to marry him, I need to stop blaming him for hitting me”. What a great philosophy. I was so foolish thinking I should assign blame based on the millions of different causes for each and every effect.. it’s so much simpler to always blame myself for everything, makes me feel much more powerful :)

this is a toxic POV in most applications tbh. yadda yadda nihilism and what not and acceptance is useful but somethings are unacceptable. some pain is not controllable. some circumstances are shitty despite your best effort, degree of acceptance, and will to change it. your mind does not have domain over everything that happens in your life... IMHO :)

@JohnDavid-kc9kt
@JohnDavid-kc9kt 3 года назад
@@VeganSemihCyprus33 That depends on your perspective. If you accept responsibility and still blame yourself for everything then it's a problem, but in our modern world where we seek out and surround ourselves with validation, then blame everyone else for our problems instead of doing something about it (which is often but not always the case, to be sure) this call to simply understand our place among our own problems and step up to do what we can is rather refreshing. We live in a country and political system entirely dependent on personal responsibility, yet we have become increasingly dependent in the state and blame of the "other"... I think this message is powerful and timeless for the most part. It's rooted in hundreds, if not thousands of years of truths from across the world. Don't be docile- to your own weaknesses- is an important message.
@JohnDavid-kc9kt
@JohnDavid-kc9kt 3 года назад
@@sydneyyeg You are right to a great degree, but way too many people (and an increasing number of younger ones) do not accept responsibility for their own problems. Stay up late, drink stimulants all day, absorb themselves onto their phones, don't learn social skills and how to take risks and respond to failure, and enter the world more ignorant and afraid, then blame the system for being unfair. Yes, some pain is out of your hands, but his message that we don't even know what we're capable of if we were to not waste our time.... having worked with young people since the release of smartphones, I can assure you that this has become an epidemic. More kids graduate high school now with the mental and social maturity of 14 year Olds, but with massive overexposure to negativity and pain; of course they are not going to be hard-working, responsible risk-takers. They are anxious, stressed, overwhelmed, and lack ambition to do anything about it (increasingly, not always). So they escape back into their safe phone world and/or take two or three extra years to gain experience before figuring things out, if they ever do. The message of personal responsibility and balance is so important, but what we are inundated with more and more is "you deserve what you want because you're special and you want it" and "you have value because you have feelings, regardless of what you contribute and what level of responsibility you take for your actions." You can't have a solid social structure or democracy when these characteristics become the norm. Good luck out there- have a nice day.

Mass shooters are narcissists who flew into a narcissistic rage. www.sfgate.com/health/article/Killers-in-mass-shootings-linked-by-narcissistic-5543262.php Apparently, narcissists, psychopaths and sociopaths have less gray matter in a part of the cerebral cortex called the left anterior insula so they don't feel empathy and guilt. (People with PTSD show abnormalities in the hippocampus, amygdala, and medial prefrontal cortex, which is an entirely different matter. Some defenders of narcissists seem to think that the brain is just one big lump.) www.livescience.com/37684-narcissistic-personality-disorder-brain-structure.html www.livescience.com/39904-why-psychopaths-lack-empathy.html Mass shootings cause massive suffering. Why isn't Jordan Peterson talking about this, calling for MRI scans to be compulsory so normal people would be forewarned that they're dealing with a secretly sadistic being? For a comprehensive list of the personality traits of those who lack empathy (you might unknowingly be dealing with one), google OUTOFTHEFOG. outofthefog.website/traits I've learned that the US Military and Secret Service, and even Israel, the home of Krav Maga, are learning Systema (which is a combat system tested and proven by the Russian Special Forces for survival during war times, unlike Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Karate, and other sport martial arts, which are all exclusively for one-on-one). I wish Systema were taught in schools (starting from kindergarten) instead of useless P.E. If everyone were skilled in self-defense, there would be less assaults, kidnappings and rapes because evil-minded people would hesitate to attack anyone, knowing they'll be in for a real fight, battling for their own lives. Here's a link about Systema: marylandsystema.com/systema-russian-martial-arts-is-one-of-the-secret-services-strongest-weapons/

@@steven5054 I totally agree, although for me the issue isn't with traditionalism, it's with the blatant agenda behind all of his works(though traditionalism might be a part of that). Jordan Peterson is a great speaker(and presumably writer), and he's used that skill to communicate some very interesting and genuinely helpful - though not at all original - ideas. These ideas and the way he packages them are extremely appealing, specifically to young men who are working their way through the modern world we live in, in fact they seem specifically tailored to attract such people. But as you've said, every idea or bit of information he shares comes with a poison pill - every idea he communicates is needlessly accompanied by a small dose of his world view or political opinions which are made to seem like they are integral to the idea itself. This would be a problem in itself regardless of what views he was trying to inject, as it's just insidious and manipulative. The fact that these injections are often poisonous themselves only makes things worse

The one problem I see with this, is that there is an underlying assumption that efficency in making money is the key to making everyone happy. It tells you that a rich man hates seeing poor people complain because he knows that with effort it's possible to become wealthy. But not everyone has those values instilled within them, not everyone is motivated to capitalise on the free market and unfortunately, not everyone is 'intelligent' enough to compete
@ryanoconnor6805
@ryanoconnor6805 5 месяцев назад
financial literacy is 20% knowledge and 80% doing shit, you can gain the intelligence. but that being said it doesn't mean that you look down on others for not being successful, it's just that those people who are less successful shouldn't complain and say it's everyone else's fault that they can't get ahead, if your goals are having a larger family of 5 kids you're not going to be as successful as somebody who doesn't have any kids. After Skool. Thank you very much for this video. Though we disagree on certain matters, because I am a Conservative Catholic, I find this video very useful and informative. I will send this link to my girl friend who is suffering right now. And hope that she can find the strength to better her life and find what she is looking for and her place in the world.

Im thrilled to see that the lectures/speeches After Sokol animates and the actual people working together. This alone makes these videos so much more wholesome. The fact that Dr. Peterson took some time to introduce this animation just shows how much they creators of this care about their content.

THANK YOU so much for this video! I remember hearing this lecture ages ago and it made such a profound impact on my life! But seeing it visually has made an even greater impact. If I could give this video a thousand likes I would. Please... PLEASE consider creating a video for Jordan’s talk about “lifting a load, carrying your own burden of life, as heavy as it is”! I’ll try to find the link and included it here in case you haven’t heard that lecture. 🙏🙏🙏

I just wish I could be more mentally stronger like before. Two years ago I felt strong, I felt like I could take on any task and what ever life could bring, But I went though some things in 2020 made me so vulnerable. It made me realize hoy fragile life can be. And that is what scares me.

4 years ago I was essentially on top the world. Some things happened and left me feeling angry, doubtful, remorseful and scared. The way society, or at least the bits of it I see, is going has done nothing but feed those things, especially the scared part. I have thought a lot about my previous confidence and mental strength, about how easy it was to be at peace, and I wonder where all of it went. The only answer I got is that maybe it's not that I was strong, and more like I was untested. It was easier to "be" strong when I didn't have something to be strong against, if that makes any sense. I came to believe that what I have to do know is face all of these things, somehow, because this is the world, and strength is the ability to deal with the world and not suffer needlessly, or so I think. In a way, I'm thankful, and hopeful, because I think this is the first time I see a lot of the world more clearly, and I wish to become a man capable of being at peace in it. Not by closing my eyes, but by dealing with what I see. It's fucking hard, but here we are.

Jordan, your dedication to help others improve themselves, or at least that how it comes across, is inspiring and admirable. I many times turn to your words and wisdom in times of difficulty. The sobraiety, "brutality", and pragmatism of your philosophical/psychological anacdotes, stories, and lessons always help me take things in perspective, and focus on what is important to me. I want to thank you for your lifes' work. I will never get to meet you, but I feel you know me, and somehow I know you as well. I consider you a family member, for I choose to see the entirety of humanity as one huge family. Thank you again, and I wish you a happy and relaxing moment, whenever these words get to you, and when they could have if you could read all the comments on your videos. Much love and appreciation from Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
