I love that Peterson articulated this, I’ve had the exact same thought. Although I would describe it as mutualism, not parasitism. I’ve also wondered if grains had a similar effect on our consciousness, albeit a more detrimental one, influencing more antisocial behavior than prosocial, greed, hording/scarcity mentality/fear of loss/fear of death, sedentarianism, sexual selection of males of “toxic” or tyrannical traits, etc.
Honestly though, you cannot deny that if deeper down, or in the long term, if it does turn out to be an asymmetrical parasitic relationship, it truely is a terrifying possibility to be paranoid over. It's not like certain fungi don't already use psilocybin to control the hosts they parasitize as they eat them away and get them to spread their spores... 😦
Anyone who’s ever done high dose psilocybin has had this thought at some point, the loss of ego seems to be the sensation of another self taking over. Very curious thing.
No not at all, at least not for me. I've taken a "heroic dose" and it feels like you are fully losing yourself to your surroundings and visions. If that is what you mean by "another self" then my experience is similar to yours, but otherwise I felt ego dissolution. I'm sure everyone has different experiences, but from I've heard everyone feels ego dissolution at 5g+. What dose are you referring to? Sorry just curious.
You need some Johnathan Pageau in your life or maybe some matthieu pageau :) matthieu pageau talks about hallucinatory substances slightly in his book and the meaning of the forbidden fruit. I would suggest you check out Johnathan pageaus views on psychedelics though on his RU-vid channel.
Seems more logical it's just a coincidence psychedelic mushrooms have chemicals that have such an influence on human brains. Do love Terence McKenna videos so sure like to listen to some weird theories. Carl Jung and Terence McKenna are two of my favorite people ever. By the way, if you'd start with patreon I'll join.
Carl Jung is the man - I've only heard snippets of Terrence McKenna's work but its always been intriguing. And man, I can't be more appreciative in regards to you offering to support a patreon if I started one. I work full time which means money is fortunately not a barrier to getting these videos out, so I'd almost feel guilty starting one. I think when I hit a 1000 subscribers I'll reevaluate the direction of the channel and see about starting one up and trying to think of ways in which people's donations could be funneled toward something productive. But I'm really glad to know you're getting value of these videos!
There's a long lecture in which McKenna talks about Jung, it's called "Address To The Jung Society (Terence McKenna) [FULL]". Can also recommend short videos like "Terence Mckenna denounces Relativism" and "Terence Mckenna - Culture is your operating system". If you listen to any of those it will become clear why they call him a wordsmith.
@@dannyvanhecke are you serious enough to understand, "Behold your Serpent's Society Systematization". My awareness for this assists my non-violent behavior.
I would not say it's coincidence, you say nature creates without intent, mushrooms are inteligent, this is already proven they think without what we would call brain, japans intire trainsystem was created/redisgned by a mushroom. plants produce insecticides, animals adapt to there envirment, every species has there role.this is not by accident.
Wow man great video, by the professional and creative style of this video I was expecting you to have hundreds of thousands if not millions of followers. Keep going and you’ll be big for sure
Haha interesting video, the same thought process came to my mind while reading Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake, you should check that out if you wanna dive deeper into the mushroom world, not just psychedelics! It's mindblowing! Peacee
I think this doubling in size has more to do with our use of language and social life, which developed exponentially fast once we started doing it... humans that weren't able to use language did not survive in a tribe setting and therefore died... use of language requires a lot of logical processing power therefore our brains got bigger... I dont see how smoking mushrooms would directly effect your DNA and make your childrens head bigger, but maybe it created some sort of evolutionary pressure for more empathy and compassion, which effected brain size... maybe mushrooms played a role in this brain size mistery, but I don't think they were the major contributor... I also the think the discovery of fire had a much more significant effect on brain size than mushrooms and other drugs... I'm not an expert just offering a diffrent point of view
Would it actually help a mushroom for the spores to be carried around by humans after eating the mushrooms? My understanding of how fungi spread is that the spores are basically everywhere, in a low concentration in the air, and they grow wherever the happen to land on something they can use for energy. This would seem necessary for the fruiting bodies to reliably appear on the dung while it's still fresh and hasn't been absorbed into the soil.
I completely disagree. What I have experienced is genuine and I have never even taken mushrooms. Many other substances can produce these experiences and they are all very very similar because they are genuine. There is more out there than can be perceived with your worldly senses. Months ago I would have agreed with you. Do your own research, hopefully you know what I mean by that.
the molecular structure of DMT & psilocybin Is nearly identical, the effect you get at a high dose of psilocybin is very similar to what you see on ayahuasca for example, some people say the effect are the same for them. Psilocybin is part of a family of molecules called the indolamines, which includes DMT and LSD (see below) and also more common endogenous neurotransmitters, such as serotonin. after all they're not that different.
@@morgenthau5986 its similiar bot not nearly identical (4 foxforiloxi-n is in psylocibine and isnt in DMT) The effects of dmt are way stronger and unique. You dont get the same trip regardless of the amount of mushrooms you take, its just different.
Lmfaoo, keep up these videos. I've been slowly watching more of your videos and this one was very different than the others which was a pretty funny to see given the context. Psychedelics definitely should be more widely accepted within the right use and measurements.
@@PFJung Yeah! I'm really into Psychology, Philosophy, and other stuff like this. Yeah definitely. Anything that comes from the Earth are not inherently bad. It's just how you use it.
I actually think something similar to this, but it gets WAY crazier than just thinking the mushrooms are the parasites directly. I actually think that Fungus Gnat Larvae are the organisms of concern. The question for me remains whether or not the gnats are in alliance or symbiosis with the mushrooms, or if they are just a third party we've become entangled with. Much benefit is experienced through use of psilocybin mushrooms, but is that just an approximation of the benefit we SHOULD be experiencing through DMT, which psilocybin is molecluarly similar to and kind-of mimics? The gnat larvae are a very real concern, and if you go hunting for "woodloving" Psilocybes in woodchips in the Fall, you can eventually find specimens of Psilocybe Cyanescens or Psilocybe Allenii that are INFESTED with gnat larvae. I have literally seen the tiny filamentous larvae writhing and squirming off of the surface of the stipe of these mushrooms. I actually also think that the visual phenomenon people sometimes experience when they stand up to fast or suddenly exert themselves and see little white or silvery dots shooting around in different directions in their field of vision, could be a sudden disruption to these filamentous larvae in our bodies/eyes who may actually be otherwise "plugged into" our optic nerves or something. There is WAY more that goes into all of this, including the talk of people who suffer from Morgellons Disease of having various bodily involvement with gnats, and also the subject of why exercise, fasting, and taking certain plants/drugs give people relief. The plants are some of our best insecticidal substances on the planet. Also interesting that many of those plants are illegal. This is where the whole thing starts to get conspiratorial and I wonder if we are in the grip of a global parasitic incursion, that is so advanced it influences our society and the way things are operated. It's crazy shit!!!
I do mention that at the end, because it's definitely an important point! I would strongly recommend that people avoid doing any amount of psychedelics above micro dosing, if it all (and obviously only where it's legal).
Deterministic means when the fungus is born it will attempt to grow a certain way and adapt to stimuli only when absolutely necessary. Saying a game’s physics are deterministic means if you Do the same inputs the output will be the same.
You kinda had me worried there for a moment, first the UFO video recently and now the stoned ape hypothesis xD But no jk, its always funny to explore some of the wilder ideas out there, interesting well put video as always. intersting way of breaking it down, and i can follow petersons idea of mushrooms developing a trait, giving humans trancendental expierences that result in further spread of mushrooms. My biggest Problem with the Stoned Ape Hypothesis the way its most often told and which you touched slightly in the end. that the mushrooms played a role in our brain development. That just doesnt make sense, from my basic biological knowledge. Lets say the mushrooms have the ability to stimulate a primates brain and make it develope further. Even if thats the case, they wouldnt change the DNA, so that genius primate with that super developed brain would still have normal non altered primate babies. so i cant see how the mushrooms would have altered the evolutionary process of our brain tldr: mushrooms evolving a trait giving religious expierences makes sense to me mushrooms playing a role in our neuronal evolution, i just cant follow the arguments there, if you have further insight i am always glad to hear it ^^
That's a really good point from a genetic point of view - working out doesn't affect the underlying genes for muscle growth, so I can see why there's a potential gap in the theory. Although perhaps over extended periods of time epigenetic activity does end up having an effect on the underlying genes - the consumption of meat, for example, definitely shaped our genetics and allowed for a bigger brain. That's the fun of speculating!
