For Peter - as an audio listener at work, if I hear something that makes me want to look at the screen, I simply take a peek or go to the break room/bathroom for a second. I can understand how people were upset about the drawing one since it was the whole episode, but then again you could always go back and watch at another time. Audio listeners in the car are fucked no matter what 😅 PS: whenever you guys say “for our audio listeners” that’s a good signal that I should look at the screen

I really love how far these guys have come. I watched an old video of theirs and it made me so happy to see that they haven't changed at all, yet at the same time have gone through a complete character arc. I issued myself a challenge therefore. I'm watching all the Underdogs Gaming videos in the order they were released. It's like a show of support from me as I can't subscribe to the patreon (welp, still at school). But I really love you guys and these videos do actually make my day every time one is released : ) Edit: Audio listeners do exist I am one of them : )

As a vocalist, the reason you get louder when you’re voice is higher is because you’re forcing more air through a tighter vocal cord. Another fun fact is that you use a lot more air when speaking lower, which is why it’s sometimes associated with “breathy” speaking, because you need a larger volume of air to cause the vocal cords to vibrate when they aren’t tight together.

25:45 linguist in training here, the sound made while laughing is believed to be the only sound that has the same meaning across every culture which means that every person on the earth has the same sound for laughing and everyone understands what laughter is reguardless of where you're from. With that said, there was a study that asked participants to listen to the laughter of people from their same country and the laughter of people from different countries and they were able to distinguish laughter from "strangers" and those considered "friends" at a higher rate than random guessing would predict. This would suggest that there are some differences in how laughter sounds based on geography.

You make higher sounds by tightening your vocal cords. Having a smaller opening means that pushing out the same amount of air in the same time makes the air move at a faster speed. I assume that's why you tend to be very loud if you try to hit a high note. It may also have to do with the resonance frequencies of the human body.

I think most people are kinda in the same boat where we have it on in the background, and tune in to the video when something is happening on screen. Also we tend to associate higher pitches with loud and lower pitches with quiet, but of course is still possible to have quiet highs and loud lows. But naturally, due to what our bodies have to do to create those pitches, it gets loud or quiet. The quality of the sound matters too, naturally higher frequencies cut through over a shorter distance, but lower pitches travel farther and are less intrusive(?) to listen to

I'm an audio listener 70% of the time. What I find interesting about myself is that in terms of RU-vid videos I have two separate "watch later" playlists. One of which is for RU-vid videos that require my full attention and the other is for RU-vid videos that I could play in the background. The former contains the traditional gaming related videos, irl videos while the latter is for podcasts and video essays. Sometimes I would have the podcast on my other monitor and occasionally glance. Today is my workout day so right now I'm 100% an audio listener

I too am not qualified to talk about it, but capitalism just ain’t the way, especially here in the US. it just ends up with CEOs trying to exploit workers as much as possible, give them as low wages as possible, and then make it so that they can’t speak out against them. It gets worse with all the places that are caught in the capitalist system, such as healthcare, education, and prisons. It coats a ton of money to get treatments, and it leads to people avoiding them. When I was 12, I fell off my bike and broke my wrist. Even with good insurance it cost my parents over 2500 dollars. My dad fell 15-20 feet at work and broke his arm, but drove to the hospital crying because we can’t afford the thousands of dollars for an ambulance. The average childbirth costs 15000 dollars, and c-sections are even more. In prisons they get a ton of cheap labor off of the inmates, and don’t rehabilitate them. When they get out of prison they have nowhere to go, no home, no money, and it’s even harder to find a job because of their past, which leads many to returning back to prison, where the prisons get more work for nearly no cost. It’s insane to the point that the US has 300k more prisoners than china, despite having 1/4 the population. If you were to separate the US and make each state a country, Texas would have the 12th highest prisoners population in the world, with California at 16th. This concept is pretty much what the movie Holes is based on. Then for education it may be the most egregious. Colleges cost thousands upon thousands of dollars to attend unless you have good parental connections or good test scores. The thing is, the poorer families, often minorities, often have worse schools and don’t have the money for tutors, leading them to having not enough money for college, and unable to get high enough test scores for scholarships. College is the way for them to move up in social class, but it’s locked away from them. There are two main ways around this: The parents working as slaves for corporations and essentially working themself to death to give their children a chance at a better life, or joining the army, of which the country spends 820 BILLION dollars on each year. For comparison, the whole country of the Netherlands is worth 831 Billion dollars. When people say Capitalism in the US is racist, this is why. It was designed to keep the poor, mostly minorities, at the bottom and force them to work their butt off in the country for a hope of a better future for their children.
