Jordyn Woods recently celebrated her boyfriend, Karl-Anthony Towns, following a historic victory that propelled the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in two decades. The Timberwolves' dramatic win came during a thrilling Game 7 on Sunday, May 19, where they overcame a significant 20-point deficit to defeat the 2023 NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets. This victory secured their advancement to the next round, where they will face the Dallas Mavericks.
In the aftermath of the game, Woods, 26, shared an emotional tribute to Towns, 28, on social media. Accompanying three heartfelt photos of the couple, she wrote, "Western Conference Finals!!! Are you kidding me!?!? Couldn’t be happier for this team and most importantly Karl." She continued, "He has overcome so much adversity to get to this point in his career, let alone knee surgery earlier this season. I am so proud and in awe of him. 🥲 This is your moment! 🐺🤞🏽❤️."
The couple, who have been together since 2020, have consistently showcased their strong bond. Woods has been a stalwart support system for Towns, attending nearly every game and often seen donning custom designs of her boyfriend's jersey. Her unwavering support has been evident throughout Minnesota's exciting season, including accompanying Towns to postgame interviews and cheering from the stands.
Timberwolves owner Alex Rodriguez also joined in the celebrations, expressing his pride in the team and the city on Instagram. "UNREAL NIGHT!!! I cannot express how proud I am of this team and this city. On to the next one," Rodriguez, 48, wrote, capturing the jubilant mood surrounding the team's success.
In a light-hearted moment during the postgame press conference, Towns and his teammate, Anthony Edwards, joked about the team's past struggles. When a reporter mentioned that NBA history suggests a team needs to "lose big" before achieving significant success, Towns humorously responded, "How much more we gotta lose?" Edwards, 22, added, "We’ve been losing the last 20 years!" Their banter highlighted the perseverance and growth that have led to their current achievements.
On the court, Towns delivered an impressive performance, scoring 23 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and providing two assists. Edwards also contributed significantly with 16 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, showcasing the teamwork and determination that have defined the Timberwolves' journey this season.
Earlier this year, during the NBA All-Star Weekend in February, Towns spoke to PEOPLE about the crucial role Woods has played in his life, particularly during challenging times. He credited Woods for her unwavering support during his recovery from a grade 3 calf strain, which sidelined him for nearly four months last year. "I've got an amazing woman at home, so it makes those tough times not so tough," Towns shared. He also revealed that Woods has become deeply engaged with basketball, frequently watching game films with him and developing a keen understanding of the sport.
Reflecting on his relationship with Woods, Towns acknowledged the positive influence of the strong women in his life, including his mother and sister, and how this has shaped his appreciation for Woods. "You know, with my mom and my sister, I’ve seen the impact that good women have on men’s lives, and I'm just blessed that I saw that firsthand before I got with Jordyn so that I could learn to appreciate her," he said.
With the Timberwolves gearing up for the Western Conference Finals, the support of fans, family, and loved ones like Woods will undoubtedly continue to play a vital role in their quest for success. For more updates on this story and other celebrity news, sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter.
