It is not that unusual, the announcers are acting too dramatic about the referee's actions. In Mexican wrestling referees take sides all the time, they help their favorite wrestler, in Mexico some referees even are given nicknames by the audience, they are part of the match as well.

Maybe they mean in the US/North America. That being said yes sometimes I watch Lucha Libre triple AAA wrestling on RU-vid and the referees do get involved, specifically I have seen during the women matches. I have seen the luchadores??? I think that is what they call there women wrestlers? I have seen a referee pull his favorite female (s) out of a possible losing predicament LOL and even at times deliver Super fast 3 counts in favor of who he likes (LoL). I am like come on man that ain't right (LOL) and specifically two particular referees that I see there outrageous LoL

Now this was actually more interesting than most of today's WWE matches. It was genius to let the ref snap like that. And then make the return to save the day. GENIUS. They did this one right. The announcers were great during this time. Nice moves too. And the gimmick if the living dead lady isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Shades of the Undertaker, mankind, the Great Muta and some possessed kid! What a combination. It is futher further genius for announcers to relate the moves to legends like Arn Anderson and Mankind giving credibility to their wrestling brand as a legitimate successors to a legendary era.

I was thinking that Su Yung's actions in the early stages were something she picked up from Jerry Lawler when she was in Memphis, the ability to keep a match interesting while the wrestlers weren't actually doing anything.
