José Carreras sings "Granada". He concluded the evening in Verona. A concert benefiting the José Carreras Leukemia Foundation in 1988. Recorded 08-08-1988 in Verona Orquesta Sinfonica de Madrid Carlo Franci is conducting
Unglaublich, einfach grossartig.
Cudowny głos o pięknej barwie Można porównać do Naszego zapomnianego Kiepury!!!!Carreras piosenkarz ,,nienachalny,,/tak by powiedziała moja Idolka!Maryśka Czubaszek!A jej.okreslenia były bardzo trafne!
I just read his auto biography singing from the soul which was written around the time he was sick. He wasn't going to sing at this concert but at the last minute he decided he had to
The spanish tenor José Carreras sings here one of the best interpratations of Granada, a beautiful song composed by the Mexican musician Agustin Lara who, by the way, never visited spain but composed many other songs dedicated to this country, such as: Madrid, etc. A real homage from a Mexican to his Motherland!!
Possessed of an extraordinary voice, he gives exciting, intelligent, passionate performances. There is no one I'd rather listen to and watch than Carreras. He puts me inside the music.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful moment of music history! This "Granada" sung by José Carreras was recorded just three months after his recovery from leucemia. And despite of all that he had suffered a few months before, his voice was in excellent shape - including the brilliant top note at the end of the song! Isn't this phantastic? In my eyes, this is and remains a miracle!
El Arte en su maxima expresion, alcanza la maxima cumbre ese dia. Letra ! Agustin Lara ! Musica! Y la voz mas bella de este Universo ! Carreras ! Bravo....Bravo...Bravo !!!!
Thanks uncle..Agustin Lara realy born in Mexico City, your dad abandoned home and family change residence Tlacotlalpan house uncle .. Manuel Zarattelizcano
@@enzocorvalan4954 agreed. And anyway, Carreras, who sees Lanza as one of his deepest influences, wouldn't adore a comparison between himself and his idol
@Gabriel Chin Lanza's version definitely ranks amongst one of the finest, but the authenticity of a Spanish or Mexican singing this beautiful song is just that slight edge Carreras has over Lanza, the emotions hit harder and closer to home
Jose Carreras OWNS Granada. No other Opera Singer has the pathos, style and exquizite sense style and voice of Jose. He is the King of this lovely song.
... and it is true for many other songs and arias. He sets these impossible standards of perfection - in terms of timing and interpretation - that often remain unmatched. I adore his singing.
Thank you for posting this! This was his famous comeback concert in 1988 after his miraculous recovery from leukemia. His hair had grown back by then and this was one concert for the record books. He describes it vividly in his autobiography, “Singing From the Soul.” This was his first singing appearance outside his hometown of Barcelona. That’s why the audience was extra-vociferous! The Barcelona comeback concert had all his fellow citizens listening from windows and rooftops, with speakers planted all around the city and low estimates recorded over 150,000 people who attended.
Thank god for high quality musical recordings! Carrera's voice was still great back in the 80s. His tragic bout with disease deprived the world of so much in later years. But at least fate cannot can undo what he had back then. The younger Carrera's rendition of Granada is the counterpart of Pav's rendition of O Sole Mio. It is definitive. Look no further.
See what I posted above. This was AFTER his illness. Critics had said his voice had already lost some of its luster before he was ill, but this shows otherwise!
26 people who have no idea how poignant this is. Carreras quite obviously still in the early stages of his against all odds recover from Leukaemia, giving an amazing interpretation of this wonderful song. At least the audience in Verona gave this man the kudos and respect he deserved
Carreras and Domingo are the best when it comes to Lara's Granada. Lanza and Pavarotti are spectacular too, of course, but there's just a certain je ne sais quoi about this song performed by these two Spaniard giants! Bravo, Maestro Carreras 👏
Carreras is in fantastic form here. Probably his best rendition of Granada ever. Also considering that he has to deal with horrible arrangements, an awful orchestra and a director that has no idea of how to conduct this music. Bravissimo Jose!
