Three weeks from today, my beloved wife and I will celebrate 60 years of marriage. I plan to woo her again with this aria. I chose it because I feel in it the eternal beauty of being totally in love with the love of your life. Please bear with me for being sentimental at 84 years and thank you Puccini.
That´s one of the most beautiful comments I've read in a long time. I hope you've had the most wonderful celebration with your wife and that this comment finds you both in good health. I wish everyone was more of the "sentimental" kind you say you are. The world would definitely be a happier place to live in.
I’ve always thought Carreras’ younger voice was one of the most mellifluous, warm and beautiful voices of tenor history. He made a great Rodolfo here! Plenty of power here.
Glorious grand operatic time! Not only fantastic lyric singing, but also perfect look of both to fit the roles... no one else, they look and sound RIGHT! Thank you.
This is an excerpt from a complete 1982 Met performance available on DVD, conducted by James Levine. Early in his career Carreras voice was gorgeous and used with perfect technique. Add to that his movie star looks and the naturalness and tenderness of his acting, and you have the perfect Romantic hero! Only Bjorling could sing the aria more beautifully. And no one surpasses Carreras as the embodiment of Rodolfo
The most beautiful voice with Pippo by far... Phrasing... Serving every single word... Breath control... Handsome... What more could you ask for an amazing Rodolfo... Maybe pushing a bit... But who cares...
Domingo could sing everything, Pavarotti was the big show - but the most beautiful voice was Carreras for me. I will never forget a concert in Cologne/Germany with him decades ago....which left half of the audience overwhelmed with emotions....absolute fantastic performer.
Absolutely wrong! A ruined voice, cracked, poor. So painful to hear his squeaks! No beauty! You can't compare that trio with Gigli, Volpi, Caruso, because trio are overrated, other are have a great name, they are true legends and can sing everything!!!
@@Monnarchmonnarchy A pathetic and stupid comment by one even more absolutely wrong! IDIOT! Jose Carreras - the golden voice, especially in this and lighter roles. think before you make comments
@@Monnarchmonnarchy YOU are absolutely wrong. Domingo had no chance in the role because of the high notes and the looks and timbre of voice, and Pavarotti didn't scarcely look or act the part no matter how he sounded. Pavarotti sounded the best, but then, there is his size...Carreras was GOLD for this role and lighter ones. All who deny this are a disgrace and are dishonest in opera.
Monnarch Monnarchy Domingo cracked all the time you crackhead lol. Get your facts correct. Carreras was glorious sounding until his illness. Why do you people keep lying and mis characterizing? Is it that you are evil?
PAPITO LINDO , YO TE VI EN BELLAS ARTES , CIUDAD DE MÉXICO Y ME ACABASTE DE ROBAR EL CORAZÓN ❤ . TE ADMIRO Y TE AMO POR MUCHAS MÁS RAZONES . DIOS TE SIGA BENDICIENDO .
Yes, I keep coming back to this performance, so romantic, so moving. Carreras isn't just a gorgeous operatic voice, he's an actor, and weaves the opera's magic on many levels. I fall in love with Rodolpho just as Mimi does, and fall in love with Carreras again and again.
Jose is my favorite in this role!!! He is totally believable as Rodolfo, his movements and facial expressions seem real and genuine, and great singing, so fitting to the role. The high note gave me a shiver and brought tears to my eyes.
There is no other tenor in the world that can transmit the emotions of his singing his stage presence is unbelievable and that voice is pure magic ,BRAVO Josep Carreras
I am not an expert, but I love opera. I use to listen to several different tenors, and I find Carrera one of the best melodic voices I ever heard. Perfect for romantic operas, such Traviata or Boheme.
All around superb performance, looks the part, acting excellent, voice perfect. Totally believable, with all the right nuances, intimate and loving, a thrilling performance.
I have just finished watching the whole opera and I was just blown away by it all it was wonderful. I had to get in from the USA as it was not available where I live but worth every penny
One of the mos beautiful voices I never heard. I discovered him in Liceu of Barcelona. Both were young and it was my first opera live. I I felt in love with Carreras and opera. I am grateful with life for this teasure i keep in my memory and everytime I linsten to him again I fly as i was the youg man i was then...
Perhaps someone better informed than I would care to comment on my comment that Jose's magnificent rendition of this, my all time favourite aria, was delivered at a tempo perceptively different when compared to Pavarotti, Kaufmann, Alagna et al. For me, Jose's rendition evinced within me a more spiritual impact on my being than anyone else has hitherto.
Yes, he has not only the gorgeous voice, but the stage presence, acting ability, interpretive finesse, and looks of a leading man. This lets me concentrate on the music and the drama, instead of thinking, "Oh, that's Singer X in a role." Then, at the end, my appreciation switches back to, "Oh, that was the fantastic Jose Carreras."
Such a wonderful pairing, this Rodolfo and Mimi. His beautiful expression of opening up to love by saying, "this is who I am, and who are you," combined with Carreras' sweet voice and affecting manner, is the epitome of romanticism. Even listening to him for the umpteenth time, I hear him for the first time as well. Thank you for reminding me, yet again, to seek beauty in this beautiful world.
This is beautiful. To sing like this you need magnificence. And no - one can deny the great Pavarotti. But for beauty of might and sound I lean toward the great Lanza. Still I love and admire all these singers.
Jose has probably the most lusciously lyrical Tenors voices ever recorded,so he should not be compared. with the Bel Canto or Dramatic voices of Domingo and Pavarotti who could sing Wagner,Mozart and Bellini...Jose is unique!!
