@@user-nm3zq1ex3r I was! I was a childrens choir member and was on stage from about 11/1993 to 4/1994. Best time of my life. I still talk to some of the cast.
Crazy eh? I'm the dark hair girl, orange jumper... Life time ago! What a privilege to perform in this production, blown away to see myself... Edmonton, Alberta 1993

The Canadian cast is by far my favorite out of the early 90s revivals, and Metz is fantastic in this. I did not expect to see a full live taping of this specific performance, thanks for sharing!
I don't know why Andrew Lloyd Webber didn't use Janet Metz when they made the movie version of this. I saw this production when I was a kid (in Edmonton) and she is the BEST Narrator!
Best production ever. Saw it when it first opened on Broadway and the Canadian production rules.Same with our Cats and Phantom. Thanks for bringing back great memories.
Thank you for posting this - Donny Osmond was amazing! This gave me chills bringing back so many great memories having been part of the chidren's chorus with Michael Damian 1993 Pantages Theater Hollywood.❣

Wow! Thank you so much for filming and sharing! You did an amazing job of capturing this incredible performance! I’ll have this on my favorites list and play it over and over again. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Thank you for sharing this gem 💙. A revival that just sparks joy for me. And while I’ve always loved the unique Janet Metz (on record, & live in other works), I’m IN. AWE. of her performance here. What a fully realized storyteller & powerhouse. I can’t get enough…
As a Theatre kid in high school in the early 90s, my mom got the Canadian cast recording for me for Christmas. I became obsessed with Janet Metz’s vocals….the color of her voice and how she used it. When I found out the tour was going to be in Chicago for a while, my mom drove my sister and me from Minneapolis through a major blizzard to finally see this production. I was excited to see Donny Osmond, but really, it was Janet Metz that I wanted to see. When we got into the lobby, there was a sign saying that the Narrator would be played by Kelli James Chase. Now, Kelli was pretty phenomenal, but I was still somewhat bummed. I did travel 422 miles through a blizzard to see finally see Janet Metz, after all! So then I was excited to learn that the show would be coming through Minneapolis so hopefully this time I’d finally see her perform live. Turns out she had left the show by then and Kelli was moved up to main Narrator. Again, Kelli was phenomenal and I’m so glad I got to see her. What a voice and presence. However, I still never got to see Janet Metz live, and I’ve been in search of a video recording of this production for 30 YEARS! And here it is, and a good one at that! I have a poor video recording of Kelli James Chase and Donny, and also one with Sam Harris and Kristine Fraelich. But THIS is truly the one I’ve been wanting and waiting to see for so long! This might sound silly, but your posting of this recording is (inadvertently) an unexpected and incredible Christmas gift…So THANK YOU!!!
@@riddlesford106 The video with Donny and Kelli or the one with Sam and Kristine? Neither is good quality, unfortunately. The one with Kelli James Chase is particularly frustrating to watch as the person filming was apparently scanning the children’s chorus much of the time, probably a parent trying to find their child. And then during Pharaoh Story the video cuts out right at her “a staaaaar!” money note. Haha. It does come back before the end of the song, but still frustrating.
@@terisimpkins7987 The video quality isn’t nearly as good as this, in fact it’s pretty dark. But here it is: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4eoEMmFgIzg.html
As a Canadian, I can confirm that this is indeed the Canadian production. This is the Edmonton leg of the tour. My high school drama teacher saw this leg of the tour. It's a lot of the same cast, but with some different cast members and understudies.
Thank you for posting this video. What a great quality recording - especially for 1993. Saw this production in Toronto 4 or 5 times and loved it every time!
Hell yeah, thanks for the upload. Just saw the new Toronto production and it was good but not as lavish as this (and the choice to have the narrator play Jacob and kids play some of the roles was bizarre), I saw this production as a kid and don’t remember much of it so excited to watch this!!
I just saw the revival in Sydney and thought the same thing, they really did the current production with the least people they could get away with. The way that roles were doubled/tripled up I was surprised that Pharaoh was still a separate person.
Amazing performance, captivating as ever! What memories. ❤️ When I was eleven I saw this in Vancouver and wrote Janet Metz three fan letters and even gave her a VHS tape of me and my friends dancing to music from Joseph (I made my mom hand them to her at the stage door as I was too shy - made sure my mom would not get my program autographed by Donny Osmond or anyone else so Janet would see we only cared about her autograph. It was a bit much!). I recently came across 1.5 additional unsent fan letters from when the show had moved on to Edmonton and Chicago and will be reading them at a Teen Angst Night next month.
Noble king there is no doubt… what you’re dreams are all about! All these things you saw in your Pajamas.. is a long range forecast for your framers! (Uh… getting kind of too personal there Joe…)
I miss Livent Inc. Garth neds to bring back the long running shows in North America. The week long tour dates don't give audiences a chance to get to the theatre!
I saw this company twice once in Chicago and once in Toronto. Both times the Narrator was played by Kelli James and she was great too. She played the part “at certain performances.”
I never realized how much extra work the finale mashup song is lol it seems like so much fun. Also at 1:33:36 who is he? I feel like I should know but I can’t tell lol
@@dukeofrodtown1705 i thought it might be Jacob's actor lol knew i should've recognized the coat. i think i was distracted by the funky strut he does to get to the front
" i dreamed that in the fields one day the corn gave me a sign!!! your eleven sheeves of corn all turned and bowed to mine!!!! i dreamed i saw eleven stars the sun the moon and sky!!! bowing down before my star and now i realize WHY!!!!!!!"
This is great. I’ve been wanting to find a video of this production for years and I am more than happy to know that not only did this production replicate what was featured in the 1991 London production and eventually the movie, but props to cast, especially Donny and Janet, for their spectacular performance.
Wow, just wow. Where is this footage from?! It's a valuable time capsule. My Girlfriend at the time took me to see this in Toronto. This is one of the moments in my life that I am grateful for! I have tried to relive this moment by seeing other Joseph productions but I have always said the Donny Osmond production is the best I've ever seen. (I have NOT seen the latest version in Toronto, yet, 2023.) I will say that a lot of this blocking and direction was totally changed in Toronto - for the better. I thought this was a rehearsal actually because there were so many differences to what I remember. I think the show I saw was much tighter and cleaner but that happens as they improve show after show... or maybe it was the stage size? The one in Toronto was bigger. Either way, this is a joy to flashback on. I see from other comments, this is the Edmonton show. I even bought their VHS version of Donny Osmond and Joseph but I was disappointed it wasn't the live show!! Why didn't they just record the actual version of the stage show!!! That's what we want to relive over and over again. If you have any footage of the Toronto shows, please upload them! Thanks for this.
Treasure chest within case of solid brilliance. THANK YOU, ImaJoseph Fan!! Uploading this million positive adjectives-worthy recording is a kindness and Thespian mitzvah. A blessing on your head! Peace be with you...Lukerdog
omg! thanks for uploading this! my mom took me to see this in Chicago when I was in the 4th grade (1994) and donny was in it....I fell in love with him then lol. to this day, I still give my mom a hard time about not buying me a program
Never got to see it live with him but my parents did and brought me the soundtrack on cd and soon after that the home video came out. Musicals are always better live and I got to live the dream of having the main role. It was very fun, challenging, but rewarding to be in it!
I love this musical so much. My mom had a crush on Donny when he was younger. I got the 1999 movie version. I’ve always wanted to be the narrator she’s Amazing ❤.
Lol. Same here. In fact. My mom was a teacher who ran after-school care and she played this show on VHS so many times that me and all my fellow students could sing this whole show without lyrics to read.
About a week ago I saw a live play of this (Joseph and the Amazing...) performed by a Christian YOUTH Theatre organization. And oh my gosh, it was seriously amazing!!! The 18 yr old male who played Joseph did a phenomenal job and has a great singing voice. I was honestly blown away by the whole production! And I'm not easily pleased when it comes to seeing acting, as I love acting myself (and have often told I'm great at it).
