interesting, he doesnt sound modern but rather very old classical staccato singer. i prefer il volo singing this song with the youthful exuberance and innocense along with deep soul in expressing the lyrics meaning
I like a lot Calleja and other Maltese singers from opera (e.g. Lucia di Lammermoor) but I think he should study a little bit of Neapolitan grammar and pronounciation (e.g. che bbella cosa na iurnata e sole... and not "la iurnata" etc.).
The one time in the year when he sings in Malta for us Maltese! ... usually with some hideous Italian singer with a hoarse voice and weird hairdo. Calleja has intonation issues sometimes and that vibrato is irritating
