Calleja es un gran tenor y un artista consumado, muy raro encon- trar, en las epocas que corren, cantantes que sepan interpretar este tipo de repertorio; mas un tenor, como Calleja, acostumbrado al repertorio mas tra- dicional. He has a very beautiful voice and more importantly, a real italian technique. Una voce magra. He does remind me a bit of Caruso in technique and style, and Gigli in sound. He has a real sweetness to his core.
If a singer feels compelled to change the tessitura of Ombra mai fu from castrato / countertenor to tenor, at least do it with a voice as excellent as Joseph Calleja.
