I remember watching the power of myth in the 80s even though I didn't understand fully what Joseph was saying...but now 35yrs later i "understand" he was pointing to that silent knowing/ awareness in us all....Very lucky students are those who had Joseph Campbell as there teacher...🙏💓

I am greatly appreciative to have been exposed to the power of myth series when it was firstly televised. Joseph Campbell has brought me great inspiration and direction throughout the years.

This series changed my life.

It's interesting, I read Campbell's books and watched this series as a young adult and was not as impressed by him as I am today as a "senior." Today I FEEL the truth of his very wise words 🙏

The concept of "raising consciousness" can be seen as a way to encourage personal growth and awareness, but it's essential to recognize that all possibilities already exist. Inevitably, there will always be realities where not everyone chooses to elevate their level of awareness.

It leaves me agasp these days to see these aspects of our lives swept aside as we race down the rationalist path. The soulfulness of life has dropped of a cliff.

Did he ever mention that he was a member and chairman of the vedanta Soceity of New York and he got this concept of 'Follow Your Bliss from the teaching of and of Swami Vivekananda ?

The Hero With A Thousand Faces is such an informative and influential book. It inspired me to write a book (and still does inspire me).

'We are the consciousness of the Earth.' He's right, but if we are, have we betrayed Mother Earth? Have we taken a wrong path forward?

That church speaks of wealth just as much as the rest of the city.

it's never "higher" or "lower", that would imply a vector, a direction. there is no "up". god is not in the skies. it's about INWARD and OUTWARD. (well, actually, god IS in the skies, but that's another story)

Myths, however interesting and entertaining, are inventions (out of fertile imagination ) from the past. A serious questioning : do we really need them, when facing ourselves as we are ?

I loved the man and I've studied him for years. But 100% of this piece was lifted from Alan Watts. No question, no doubt. I like how he mentions both the Cross and Mantras in this video. Man was ahead of his time.

The cross is the body we wear. We are not of the earth... we created the earth. The Imagination is God Itself. The entire story of the Bible is Salvation history not secular history. This will not give you the answers to much of anything. Every person in the Bible is a state of conciousness. We must pass through each state until we come to the Awakened Christ Conciousness. It's your own biography. When you so awaken after the series of each state you are on your way back to the One Body of God Itself. But you are the creator. You're just sound asleep. This world that you see is nothing but a shadow. The Reality lies within. A church is not going to give you what you were born with... God Himself.. You're own wonderful human Imagination.

This describes the basic conditioning that rituals and repetition can produce, but I think he missed something here about consciousness.

Respect for revering the Catholic Church and acknowledging that it is indeed a higher level of consciousness. He makes a great case for Christianity here that might give a free-thinking atheist or agnostic pause.

Does no one else find this vapid and full of holes? He begins by saying that we need to remember that we are 'of the earth' -- then precedes to privilege what he calls "the spiritual level of consciousness" over the secular (what according to the myth of Christianity might be termed 'the earthly level'): raising your family/acquiring wealth and power. The idea that "the spiritual level of consciousness" is the highest level in a hierarchy of kinds of consciousness corresponds to Plato's theory of forms (Nietzsche refers to Christianity as Platonism for the masses) -- in which framework, if taken literally, the highest work (or "meditation" to use Campbell's language) would be in the sciences and mathematics.

Thought the title said "how to remember"... At no point was there an explanation on how to remember... Thumbs down 👎
