Yeah I'm a drummer of 20 years so i can tell you he's shit. sped up, randomy hit shit and had no concept of actual timing... Remember the job of a drummer is to hold time, keep the beat steady and play to compliment the rest of the musicians. he did none of that. he simply hit shit...

The thing I always thought was interesting about playing drums was that if you just overemphasize your movements and get into the beat, everyone will think you are way better than you actually are. Also, I was cringing as he came down on those cymbals.

OrnateRope It's the fact that he's mediocre at what everyone is in awe over him for. It's the same situation as Lil Wayne and I think Nick Jonas who both played guitar live and are now known for being terrible. They do other stuff but I doubt you're going around being the kind internet warrior you are and defending them even though they're awful. Plus drum kits and their individual parts are expensive, of course people are pissed. Go to the Technology destroying channels to feel the same way muscians feel about him playing drums.

I just want to make the point that being self taught has nothing to do with this, 90% of drummers including myself are self taught, I mean I had a few lessons but was playing before them and the lessons taught me exactly what I already knew so I stopped cuz I didn't need it and could use the money for something else

Aaron Ryan I'll be 17 years old in a month and since I was 13 I've taught myself how to play piano, guitar, bass, drums and even how to sing a little. Now I'm obviously not amazing at all of them but I'd say I'm fairly decent on all and I'm especially good on guitar and piano. Although it's sort of impressive to be self taught I'd agree it is very common

As the owner of what people refer to as a "big-kit" (lots of drums and cymbals), it took a lot of time and money to build my kit. A piece of my soul dies every time a cymbal cracks. The prices of these things have gone through the roof over the last 10 years. They've always been expensive, but it's gotten crazy now.

Hey guy, I've been playing drums for 46 years and it killed me to hear that you regularly break cymbals! That's not right! The last time I broke a cymbal was in 1975. I watched your video and I can tell you why you are breaking them. You're doing something wrong - change this one thing about your playing and you'll never break another cymbal again. It's so simple - one rule and one rule only: USE A GLANCING BLOW WHEN HITTING YOUR CYMBALS. DO NOT COME STRAIGHT DOWN ON THEM. MAKE A “SWIPE” MOTION. There - that's all there is to it. Keep doing that and it will become part of your playing style. It's a subtle thing but makes all the difference in the world. Good luck with that!

I totally agree, I played on the worship team for about 20 years, I’ve known the musicians a lot longer than that, even after all that time I would never touch anyone’s instrument without getting permission first, the guitarists and bass players would always joke and tell me it was fine and I didn’t need to ask permission, it didn’t matter to me, it was all about respect, a man’s guitar or bass or instrument is like his woman, you don’t touch. I always got permission before playing bass or guitar with someone else’s instrument. It’s respect.

No only drummers that are total DB, s are like that . Obviously that was rehearsed & them drums are paid for by a TV conglomerate that's worth billions of dollars. If he broke a stick or drum head it's covered. I play and don't mind if a friend sits behind my kit. Most people are timid when they try the drums for the first time or if it's someone else's kit.Levitt just played em like Dave Grohl cuz he can play.

People, mostly women, are speaking up about their experiences, and their cumulative voices both paint a picture of how widespread this is, and force accountability onto these men. The Me Too movement gained wide recognition when it reached Hollywood and women spoke up about Harvey Weinstein. It's goal is to end the culture of turning a blind eye to harrassment and rape.

His ownership of the kit is completely irrelevant to my comment. It's more so about seeing any kit being manhandled like that and I just thought it was quite funny. It was a lighthearted comment so get off your mighty high horse and calm down. Or do you have nothing better to do than reply to comments on RU-vid in that manner?

@@flacidhouse350 Not really. You can crack any cymbals if your playing sloppily. For example hitting them too hard and when I just started playing drums I cracked one of my cymbals because I didn't know much about how to play. See how he's not playing with wrists but rather trashing his arms around. That can lead to cymbals deteriorating as well. It was scary to watch this as it felt like at any given moment the cymbals could crack and they're nice cymbals. Edit: I didnt mean to not only play with wrist all the time. I meant that he was throwing his arms around as if he were trying to swatt a fuckton of flies or midges away

I agree to an extent, but once you start learning about rudiments and reading charts it opens up a whole new world. My Dad when I was a kid insisted that I take lessons if I was going to play drums, and I never regretted having to go to my lessons.

løuise Nothing Wrong with taking lessons. The basics of drumming on a kit are simple and is easy to self teach, but to progress and learn new styles and concepts I would recommend taking lessons. If you need lessons to learn the basics no shame there either.

It really depends on the sound you want... As a drummer you should never worry about breaking your cymbals... Just play what sounds best.
