@cask 529, Magnus Master Blender Nancy Fraley popping in. So, I'm the one who re-created the Jos. Magnus line of whiskeys. Actually, although the Murray Hill Club whiskey was a historical Magnus brand, the bottle of Magnus that I 1st recreated was the JMB, aka the "triple cask" finish. The original version of this had spent its entire maturation life in Sherry casks. The version that I recreated the present day version from was bottled in 1892, the year the distillery first opened, so it very well might have been sourced from what is now MGP/Ross & Squibb in Lawrenceville, Indiana, just down the river from Cincinnati where the original distillery was located. I also created the Jos. Magnus Cigar Blend Bourbon, based upon the old tradition of Cognac Cigar Blends (brandy is my original production training), although that product is not historically accurate to the original turn-of-the-19th/20th century Magnus whiskeys. Looks like you have Cigar Blend batch #194. I think you would much more appreciate where we are currently with the J. Magnus Cigar Blend Bourbons, as your batch was in a transitional phase. That said, many thanks for your review, and cheers!

Thank you so much for popping in and sharing this information with us. We greatly appreciate it and we’re sorry if we butchered up the story too badly. Batch 194 is the bottle that we have so I’ll keep that info in mind. Thank you again…Bryan

Glad you enjoyed Western reserve they have some really great bottles. I ended up going to a winery in harpersfield. Wife knew the band that was playing there. Tonight I tried Irish whiskey for the first time. Had a sample pack of Redbreast. It has a 12 and a 15 and the Laustau. Which ended up being the wife’s and my choice. The 12 year was second and the 15 last place. I’ve learned I’m not an oak guy I had a OF 1910 and it wasn’t my favorite so I blended the rest with OF 1920 and now I have a 1915. Nice review and I’m not a JM buyer it’s just to expensive in my opinion. I know some rave over the cigar cut but that’s way over my cap. Looking forward to more Ohio distillery tours. Enjoy!!

Thanks Scott! Our favorite Harpersfield winery is Kosicek. We’ve gotten to know the owners and staff pretty well over the years and often go out for a bit with them after they close. Anyway, that’s unfortunate about the OF for you. We actually enjoy them. As for JM, that will be our last cigar blend by them as we both like their straight bourbon the best.

Great video! I have the cigar batch and i think the best thing abiyt it to me is how long the flavor stays after you drink it. I actually really enjoy it and now want to try the rest of them based off your results!

Thanks Tim! Always appreciate your support. I think you’d really enjoy the other entries as well. Curious as to which batch of the Cigar Blend that you have? Not sure if you read the other comments, but the Master Blender that recreated this line popped in to the comments and stated that the batch we have was from a transitional period and she thought we would enjoy the newer batches better than the one we havez

I recently saw the JM Cigar Blend for $180 and passed even though I really wanted it, since I've only had the triple finished JM (the one you both liked the best) and I didn't like it much. I don't remember why, but what was going on didn't work for me. I like brandy/cognac/armagnac so I thought I'd love it. Oh well, they can't all be hitters.

I totally understand. It’s why they make so many, everyone isn’t going to like everything. Thank you for following along.

Y’all peaked my interest again…. I can’t justify the Cigar Blend, but the. Murray Hill is in the budget…. Great comment from the blender… congrats on video…👍

Hey Doug! The Murray Hill and the Straight Bourbon are both solid! I feel like you’d enjoy either of them. Yes, I was shocked to see that comment!
