I was 12 going on 15 when this showdown was going on live between the two. What I mean by that is I was a very aware mature young guy. I watched both shows and It seemed to me Murrow had Joe figured out and Joe by attacking Murrow, calling him a jackal at the throat of truth, is just what Murrow one month before said he would do without saying it. Joe dug a very deep hole for himself that night and never climbed back out. If you went against joe he would simply label you a Commie then you had to prove him wrong. Hard to do when he held most of the cards. Murrow stuck his neck way out with Fred Friendly when everybody was staying out of Joes wrath. As for the American spectator, Murrow at the time, was even more trusted then Walter Cronkite ever was and still to this very day. Joe , as the saying goes, went a bridge too far when he went up against the likes of Murrow. Joe was a liar when he said China went Communist without a shot being fired. The communist and Nationalists were at each other B 4 the 2nd WW. Joined forces against Japan 1937 to 1945, then went at each other again till the Nationalists were driven to the Island of Formosa, todays Taiwan.
So what if he got some facts wrong about the communist takeover in China? Wasn’t he still right to warn us? 70 years on how many millions have died and billions more repressed?
If you give ANY country that's been fucked over by the ruling class, with disgruntled plebians and large pockets of the racially disenfranchised TRUE democracy? Then yes they will choose socialism , WHICH isnt communism, because they have butted heads in other countries in the past . HERE however, we came close, first, because of the depression & years later,because non whites and Jewish people didn't want to be treated like 2nd class citizens. Murrow stood up to cultural fascism in America. McCarthy's tactics are being used today in a different way. Middle America needs to stand up before this happens again. Trump, as President, called the press an "enemy of the people." Good night and good luck.

Just like there were no ties between Martin Luther King and any communist party anywhere in the world, but that didn't J.
