i never thought i’d be stupid enough to join a cult until i started to buy into what these characters were saying.

You don't have to be religious to believe him, and that is the beauty of Joseph's writing.

I recently bought this game and just what he says the start encapsulates whats going on the world right now _"You can feel that we are creeping towards the edge"_ I'm really starting to buy into their idealism

You know... I think Joseph Seed is right. I realize he is a game character and he’s literally a corporate creation, which is part of the consumerism that he is talking about...but this message actually rings VERY true. If Ubisoft wanted us to hate him and not to identify with him, why did they make his message so righteous? It also helps that “Keep Your Rifle by Your Side” is a total banger.

I’m incredibly late to the party, but I just finished the game. I was oddly both horrified and comforted by the end. He was right.

The scary part is, is that these words can fit in anywhere because they’re true, their is not doubt Joseph Seed is a psychopath. But this preach is just a recognition of the flaws of modern society, you don’t need to be religious or a nihilist to know these words are 100% right because they’re just an observance and an opinion on the today world. Our future looks bleak if we humans do continue to let our innate greed continue to consume until we’ve starved the only thing that permits us to live and that’s the very earth we walk on. No matter your religion or lack there of you should understand the earth was created by something and that this planet is the only thing keeping us alive. Your gods made this realm and you should want to preserve it if not for them then yourselves and your family. Because it’s health equates your health. You thrive when it thrives. That should be motivation enough to stop destroying everything around us just in the name of Me. And if you’re too stubborn to see that, then the next few decades will have your blood on it because when the masses finally have had enough that when that so called “reconning” will come. Because deep down all we want to do is survive and we will do anything to accomplish that.

Guess I'm a sheep to be manipulated by some whack job cause, anyone came preaching this to me, I'd be jelly in their hands and moist in my pants. Seriously though, Greg Bryk did such an amazing job delivering this character and his story to us. It's been said countless times before, but it can't be said enough. In my opinion, despite the great Montana atmosphere, I'm not sure Far Cry 5 would be as gripping as it is without the performance and life brought to Joseph Seed, and the rest of the cast with him. Thanks to Greg and obviously the whole team and cast, this game made me question things, and when any piece of art does that, I feel like that's a good thing. Not to mention, fanatical cult or not, these words are true, have been true, and I feel we are truly approaching the point of no return. I don't know the answer, I just know I'm scared.

The comments pretty much show just how easy it is to be convinced to join a cult. People don't realise how it's not really that difficult to manipulate somebody.

Are you sure THIS guy's the 'antagonist' of this game? the guy talking about other people's pain, family and loving people for who they are, not what they are. ... Honestly, I think The Father's more of a protagonist then the 'actual protagonist' who does LITERALLY nothing but kill people the whole game and without any obvious empathy or regard.

Everything he says is right, but the way he goes about it in game just strays to far from the path.

All these years later and the things hes saying are more believable and true than ever before...

The fact that people are actually being swayed and convinced by the words of the leader of a cult that kills, tortures, drugs, dehuminizes and inflicts many more horrors on people speaks to the superb characterization and writing of the writers and the talent of the voice actors

I would have liked for there to more sermons for the player to discover and listen to (like the Jackal tapes in FC2), as those (along with the choir music) are some of the few instances during where you get any sort of insight into the cult's beliefs. Something I found endlessly frustrating about the story is that the cult's theology is never explored in any significant depth. There's so much vague rhetoric about punishing "sinners" and culling the "weak" but hardly anything in the way of concrete answers. _Why_ are the cultists are so enthusiastic about sacrificing themselves by the hundreds to try to kill you? What are they fighting for? Like, what drew them to the cult in the first place? Why are there so many of the cultists non-white? What is it in Joseph's vision that appeals to the sensibilities of such a broad range of people with different backgrounds? What does Joseph's vision of a new, better world entail beyond there being less "weakness" (whatever that's supposed to mean) in it? I like the sermon where Joseph decries mindless consumerism and the hollowness of social media (in liue of being part of a community of people you actually care about), as that's an instance where he's offering a tangible argument for _why_ people should join his flock. If I were a screenwriter at Ubiosoft, I'd have explored that point in greater depth. Maybe Joseph is able to recruit all these disaffected young people of different races and backgrounds by making correct observations about why life is so meaningless and unfulfilling under 21st century neoliberal capitalism. Maybe he's offering them a place they can feel like they belong (IE, in his communal "family") and the opportunity to be a part of something, namely his project to build what he claims will be a fairer world (it would further help explain all the non-white membership if Joseph made it clear during a sermon that he's a big proponent of racial egalitarianism despite the general extremity of his beliefs, as that's part of how Jim Jones accrued such a large following from both white and black folks).

Had to play new dawn to realize how right the Seeds were right. Amazingly astonishing.

Listening to al the seeds preaches they are very well written and effective. Its interesting how cults and groups are able to bring in people just by words alone as long as those words can resonate with a person, usually being people who are broken or feeling without any purpose in the world. The voice actors and writers did a good job, its a shame as the story could have been enriched more for a all better game.
