You should read some of the first century Christian literature that was later banned from the bible by the Roman Catholic church. In the literature of Clement Peter preaches that after him there should come many false teachers to deceive the people. He said in his sermon that unless a teacher comes to them under the authority of the chief Bishop of the Church at Jerusalem (who at that time was James, ordained to the office by his brother Jesus) the people should not accept that teacher. According to the third century Roman historian Lactantius, Peter had so many converts that he caused a temple should be built in the city of Rome. The emperor Nero had the temple razed. Peter was crucified, Paul was beheaded. One by one, each of the Apostles were put to death in the various parts of the world they were sent to preach. All except John, who was banished to the island of Patmos. According to the early Church chronologer Hegesipus, James the chief bishop of the Church and brother of Jesus was pushed off the top of the temple at Jerusalem during the passover. The fall didn't kill him, so the crowd stoned him and beat him to death. Shortly after that, Vespasian laid siege to Jerusalem, the temple was completely demolished until not one stone laid upon another. The historian Josephus stated that the destruction was so complete you couldn't even tell there ever was a temple on that spot. The Jews were taken captive and the rest they say is history. By the end of the second century the Church was broken up into at least seven major sects each with steep disagreements. Hegesipus stated that after the deaths of the Church leaders, false teachers corrupted the Church.

If Joseph was living today, all of the things that Joseph Smith was accused of back in the 1800, Joseph would be sitting in a jail cell like Warren Jeffs. There was at that time a multitude of stories circulated about Jesus Christ and the Christians, designed to scandalize them. It didn't matter whether the Christians tried to defend against those scandals or not, most people had made up their mind the scandals were true. Therefore most of the world at large in that day had closed their minds to the teachings of Jesus Christ and basically nothing could be said to open their minds. Jesus taught His disciples that He did not come for the world, but for those His Father had given Him out of the world. He also told His disciples in Mark 4 that He speaks to His people in great plainness, but He speaks to the world in parables, lest the world should understand and be saved. It is always good to defend the honor and sacred memory of Joseph Smith. It is practically our duty. Nevertheless, we should understand that history has repeated itself, and the people of the world are even more in a state of unbelief than they ever were. We can pray for them, we can try to enlighten them, but at the end of the day, what else can we do but let them rage on.

I love Joseph Smith fairytales, especially when the children gather around to take in an oldster's Joseph Smith tales with no Jesus commercials - Hmmm reminds me of an LDS Sacrament meeting. I was a Mormon for 46 years and captivated by religious feeling and emotion instead of the true teachings of Jesus and his authentic apostles. Joseph Smith made up plenty of things about Jesus and his status as our literal elder brother, or "As man is god once was, and as god is man may become." What a wonderful LDS fairytale that is! Anyway, I came to understand I'm no more likely to become like god than I am to build a tower to heaven. Losing such a self inflated notion can really humble a man, downgrading him from a (Mormon) "god in embryo" to a Christian sinner seeking mercy, forgiveness and the grace of god for his salvation. In verse 1-4 the writer is speaking of God the Father and says in verse 5, "unto which of the angels said HE at any time" showing HIM (God the Father) now speaking to angels. Then when verse 8 starts, "But unto the Son HE SAITH" which is in italics showing it is God the Father still talking and now he is talking to his son Jesus Christ. -

ALL religions cherish family. The Catholic Church stresses the family unit by telling us to emulate the Holy Family. We have a perfect family to look to for guidance. Who could be a better mother that the woman who said, "Yes" to God to carry Jesus? And who could be a better father model than Joseph who trusted God when Mary was already pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit? Joseph Smith was very clever. He very selectively picked out, like a cafeteria style religion, certain items from the bible and created his own religion. He carefully made sure there is an earthly answer for everything, which is not what God wants. All that we know about God, does not answer all our questions. God has mysteries that will be revealed in eternity, but not now. This is where our faith and trust in God comes in. We love God and He will reveal everything in His time, not ours.
