Josh Bryceland on Switching to Cannondale, the State of DH Racing, & More | Sitting With Si 

Josh is THE rider of his generation what a legend, soooo down to earth and a total shreader.

It's 6am and I'm waiting for the second gondola at the last Mega. I was coming from Vajuany in stead of Alpe d'Huez so I had to wait for the full cars to pass. I'm standing there when the doors open on a packed car with Josh, Sam and the rest of the top boys sitting there in dark silence. Josh slowly looked out the car and made eye contact. The slowest, warmest smile spread across his face. I returned the smile and the doors closed on his car. Really set the tone for a great day. Class act, rad rider and true ambassador of the sport.

Awesome interview. The vibe was great. Bryceland is so down to earth and really embodies the soul of mountain biking. Without him I think the industry would have continued to go off track. A top level pro steps back to blast burms with his mates and live life to the fullest really puts things into perspective. Have fun, Ride or die!

I've been struggling with the same feelings and thoughts as Josh about racing... And its a bummer, but nice to finally see that I'm not the only one fed up with this racing scene. It's also great to see how he could take a step back and reflect, and re-learn to love the sport in itself. Rat Boy you've definitely been a huge inspiration to me. Keep rippin man, you got something that I've never seen in any other rider. Idk what it is necessarily but its definitely good haha.

Great interview. You got greats like Gwin who fly down a world cup track looking like an athletic competitor. That season Ratboy won it he flew down there even quicker and he made it look like he was out nailing Farmer Johns on a Tuesday with his mates and not racing against the worlds best. I think that has been my favourite season yet.

The ankle injury in 2014. This is why SC syndicate moved on from Bryceland because he wasn't taking it too seriously anymore. Minnaar thought Bryceland screwed around too much, which was obvious because he really didn't try. Minnaar is intensely focused and allegedly it set him off. Then Bryceland called Minnaar gay publically which didn't help. Notice that he never mentioned Greg at all until 52:14. "Whose the last person you want standing next to you?" Josh tried to hold it in, but you know he wanted to say Gregg then he attempts to jokingly let it out. That was very real. It was nice that SC kept him on the payroll to "play/screw around" with 50to01. Which is really what it was, they just make youtube videos of them screwing around and get paid a little for it. Cannondale paid him much more money. Cannondale really needs Bryceland because people don't really take that company serious for MTB. I don't see him lasting with that company though, Cannondale is too scared to push the limits and Josh will push the limits. SC company atmosphere fit Josh perfect because they gave him the freedom to be himself but the pay was not mint. Cannondale I think will attempt to temper him. I suspect Cannondale planning to do copy cat videos like SC syndicate and YT mob vids to promote Josh. Good on Josh for all success in the future. Cannondale is lucky to have him.

This interview made me wanna go ride. Even just screw around in the driveway and have fun. Thanks!

One thing I would say is maybe XC is like the new Road bike scene converging into mtb.. Maybe we are seeing more XC views than DH now because more hard core Road bikers are now getting their feet wet in XC cycling!? just my 1.5 cents

Good for Gwin for sure but IMO... McLaren, Mcschlaren... who gives a funk what car or bike you drive or ride. Its great that he's had success, or anyone. Its just about getting out and riding and having fun. Jibbin, cuttin, and slashin. Hittin some steeps and climbing those punchy achievements, getting that adrenaline and descending and just flowing and feeling the earth and being in it. Its like surfing. That's what its all about.

small bikes is whats gud, often see smaller people slung over huge bikes struggling to throw their weight about 26' is perfect, and if you're a big guy eg ( peaty) then it makes for the maddest style niice 1 rat

I'm 14 and race downhill, enduro, xc and cyclocross but i still love to chill out with my mates and session stuff hard. Just a balance isn't it? Same with the jumps. I love a bit of jumping but its a different thrill to railing a berm or the loosest, steepest section.

What’s going on with Rats bike sponsor these days in 2021? I still see him ride his Santa Cruz in the 50to01 vids, but also saw him in a Cannondale Ebike Demo video that was released a few months ago. I don’t get how he’s allowed to ride for two different bike brands or am I missing something? Would be really nice if someone could explain this to my uneducated self!

It seems like this interviewer still doesn't get what Josh is about. It's interesting how he talks down to him for walking away from racing and now doing "skids and wheelies." Josh is doing what he wants, having fun. That's what MTB is all about. Or at least what it's all about for me.

Good luck to the guy . Claudio probably misunderstood what type of green you were quitting racing for . It was a shock to hear Claudio's announcement at the time but the rumours had been all over the tinternet way before he opened his mouth so someone must of been taking or overhearing but still very unprofessional of Claudio. How do cannondale feel having there new ambassador completely change a bike that's just been launched.i understand the reason behind it but id be pretty pissed . As a privateer it was hard and still is hard to watch those who's hearts not really in it anymore race for the big teams and I'm glad some teams have given some of them a chance this season . The explosion of RU-vid means people can get out of it what they want without having to race or be a so called professional. I also take issue with the monster energy sponsor .you want to be more responsible to your younger fans but yet the language used in this and other bids that your young fans will watch is very unnecessary. The world would be a boring place if all racers were like gee and gwinn but I firmly believe for the sport to grow from the sponsors side of things it needs more professional people less ratboy and atwill . Watching Phil asking for bear straight after a race live on TV might be funny but it's not what the sponsors want to see . At 28 people generally know where there going in life but guess you've still to figure it out and good luck with everything. Your missed at the wcups but loris and Shaw have absolutely taken the bull by the horns .
