In case it wasn't clear, Groban is a perfect example of someone whose talent brands the song with his style yet preserves the intrinsic power of the original melody.

I saw this young man twice in concert this year. He is AWESOME and you walk away humming all his songs. If you like him, you'll love his new Christmas album!
This song was awsome after 9-11-01 I Almost forgot how Great our Country was Untill Josh Groban Sang this song it left tears in my eyes because bein an american i never sung the national anthem except if i would go to a baseball game but since im an active swimmer before every swim meet i always sing the national anthem because it's about Love Pride and Respect for our country Thank you Josh for Singing the National Anthem God bless u and God Bless America...
In a RU-vid rabbit hole right now and stumbled upon this and forgot about it. This was soon after 9/11 and this is easily one of the most beautiful versions ever, voice of an angel.
This performance is wonderful and has no political statements to make. Honoring our country and what it stands for is neither Democrat or Republican. What ever your party, makes no difference for what this clip represents. We're all Americans and we are proud to still be here to say that.
Once in a while, you stumble upon a treasure of a video like this one... as he was singing, you just can feel a spirit of unity embracing everyone in that place... I miss having a president with so much conviction as George W. Bush... :(
If you like josh groban and his song "the prayer"...Type "Coppell Talent Show" and hear two Texas High School All-State singers. The guy SOUNDS like Josh and the girl is amazing.
I agree 100%. Subtle "variation" can enhance the patriotic emotion of the song, but too much embellishment distracts the listener. Though I imagine those singers would argue that singing the anthem on a national stage is a precious opportunity to display their patriotism, thus they strive to invest their whole unique talent into the effort (resulting in a version of the anthem that, though twisted and imo often discordant, is the characteristic public "legacy" of the singer).
If Josh Groban can make George Bush think of how much of a greedy prick he is (look at his eyes) by singing our national anthem then you know the boy has talent! He's made linebackers cry with his talent! God love you Josh Groban!
