@@OlaEnglund I spent 30 minutes yelling at a plugin for having input lag only to realize I was on Windows audio and not ASIO. Even emailed support and everything. Sometimes.... sometimes we just bass player...

I started playing at a pro level recently after years of playing bass Josh was one of the guys I rediscovered and Sylosis really is truly unappreciated
Sylosis sounds so heavy while being tuned to E, that says a lot about Josh's tone. I thought I didn't need any amp sim since I got Fortin Nameless, but I got to try this one out !
A lot of making E standard sound so heavy is palm mute techniques and pick attack. You'll need an 11-49 or 10-52 set of strings to pull it off. Can do it with any amp or guitar. Also has alot to do with just your fingers, it's why Ola sounds exactly the same no matter what amp or plug-ins or pedals he uses.
Thanks Ola for "Ola Thursdays" the Whistle EQ techniques really work man, I had gotten new software recently to remaster and master my songs and though the compression and dynamics worked it was still missing something in the EQ department (from my bad ears in the studio on the mixing the EQ settings), but this technique makes it a million times easier! I recently remastered some tracks and the tracks sound incredible dude. Even through the TV which I could never do before is get the vocals to sound like they do on headphones. Much much appreciated bro this is why we as musicians are forever students in life I've been playing and songwriting since 1994-1995 and man still learning, lol. ✌
Josh Middleton always has great tones. Like good enough to where he could probably make a living from just that aspect of it. But then he's also great at songwriting and shredding, too. I even wanna say he did some of their album art. Top-tier inspiration.
That post-fx section looks sick! I was amazed when I saw the studio-grade EQ with adjustable Q. That aside, the plugin sounds incredible! Might have to try this one out🤘
Hey, Ola! Just wanted to stop by and say THANK YOU for your content. As I do work early in the mornings...this makes me an 'early bird' on my days off. That being said, I live in the US and since you post your content early, its a god-send! Thanks Ola. You're the best. Please continue!
Speaking of under rated amps I recently got my Mesa Single Rect-O-Verb 1st gen 50 watt head back after it was at a friend's house for years and I really think that amp delivers THE perfect lead tone. It's freaking crazy how almost nobody talks about that amp.
Sounds good, but those "Standard E" Sylosis riffs that Josh is known for were all recorded with a "Gowin-modded" Marshall. He switched to the Peavey 6505+ once he tuned down a step.. but he also blended a Krankenstein with a lot of those newer riffs. It would just make more sense to have included a modded Marshall and Krankenstein.
i'm one of those guys using plugins live! i use archetype nolly in mainstage. logic sends midi control changes to mainstage to turn effects on/off from the click track. no amps on stage, we play with iems, and sound the same from gig to gig. it's great. no hooking up power to a floorboard modeller, can program tones from my daw, no tap-dancing, can control more than an fcb1010's buttons worth of effects (cover band.. use lots of different effects).
One thing nobody has stated while doing videos on this plug in. Is what tuning they are playing in. I have found I don’t really care for it in standard tuning. But as you go down in turning it does start to really shine.
On the 5150 preset 4 and 5 have such a nice mid range bite. Also it's nice to see the XXX as a plugin now. I'm too lazy to set up mine so the plugin is sweet. I know how my guitar works with it so it's a breeze
I really like these tones! I think I'll be doing some shopping soon for sure. I also want to pick up Rabea's plug-in as well - it's just amazeballs. Plug-ins have gotten so damn good idk if I'll ever go back to physical amplifiers fr. So much more bang for the buck!
I am a fan of stl audio.. I use tonehub and will putney and I recently bought control hub. My production level has definitely increased due to these plugins
Just spent a couple of hours on it. It's amazing! Best Rectifier plugin I've used personally. The AMAZING part is you can select all the channels (Clean,Crunsh etc) on the same amp interface!!! The fact STL took his personal hardware and replicated it is just fantastic. So you genuinely have Josh Middleton's actual gear sound. It's also my first try on a Peavy XXX. I've always wanted to have a go on those EQ knobs as they're basically like a 3 band EQ. It's really decent. Are they "better" than amps in other STL or Nueral plugins? Maybe not, but the fact it's not just a generic sound AND the amp interface is basically the actual amp is brilliant. I will also say it's worth listening to what Josh says about paring the cabs and mics to get the best tones from it all. The EQ and the OD with the HPF and LPF take a bit of understanding. His ODs are based on the Maxon808 and the Tempest OD.
Very convincing tones. Just needs low pass to cut some fizz and hi pass to let the bass guitar through and you're good to go. 🤘 (EDIT: Next time I'll watch the video, and then comment. lol )
The best plugin on the market in my opinion. Very little option paralysis and every preset has a place in various metal mixes. Really the only one that truly feels like a real amp and stands up against a Kemper, axe fx, etc. - The neural stuff is cool, but I can never really get it to sit right in a mix and feels slightly off.
@@zbigniewiksinski It does have some extra features which get overlooked. But unless you're a fan of Josh they may not appeal to you. The best thing is you dont have to load seperate "amp" models to get clean, crunch, high gain etc. You can actually switch channels within one amp interface. Which is pretty sick
Friends of mine from back in the Slough and Reading days before they became big. Them, Malafice and Divine Chaos all came out of there. Remember watching them in local bars etc...The only people that went were girlfriends and mates.
what get me with plugins is that sometimes you can turn a knob on an eq/pedal/head and it just completely goes off the rails ! so id say out of 50 knobs to turn it will only make sense to turn them never ! i've noticed most of the good changes come from the cab sims - Talking about knobs, the stereo lock button is right bloody there mate, you been tickling it with your mouse for the last 10 minutes..
I love Sylosis mostly for proggy soundwalls, probably i am in minority here :) But yeah, Josh is a riff god for sure! Ola. is there any Bass VSTi instrument that you like the most ?
@@mylogify I bought the Amphub and used it for a few years because the poweramp is great with physical pedals run into it. Then last month I hit the subscription and was super happy with the amps and tones.
Sounds just like most plugins coming out today. Nothing new really. I've tried them all and still can't get into them for recording purposes. Fun to jam with I guess. 🤘
@@matthewmp111 oh it definitely makes recording easier. And I've recorded several albums with plugins. I just prefer the sound of real amps. Not taking anything away from plugins though. Just a preference. 🤘
